Best Team in the AFC?!

Recommended Posts

Guest cartman

From ESPN.com:

"He had lots of time to throw the ball because of great protection from his offensive line, and with that time, he was able to eat up the Steelers' defense."

John Madden on Tom Brady

When is the last time (you Patriots fans out there) that ya heard THIS?

We have never had that good of an offensive line...I too was impressed by the time he got. Now put a healthy Jamal Anderson in the backfield...heh heh heh.

The Pats are plain in simple the best team in the AFC. A great defense,A great QB, T

I wouldn't go so far as calling Brady a "great" qb.

Denver will have to find it's running game and a reliable qb that's healthy before they'll do anything.

Don't mind me, I'm just wondering aloud if you're all putting WAAAY too much stock in last week's games. Hell, San Diego looked like gangbusters last week, too. Are THEY the best team in the AFC? Hell no.

Personally, I still think it's Miami first, then Pittsburgh, and then probably the Patriots in terms of talent in the AFC. New England played really well against Pittsburgh, and no one is refuting that, but Pittsburgh's got more talent on the offensive side of the ball than New England does (this INCLUDES Kordell) and has been notorious for playing like shit in their openers, at least during the Cowher Era. Bettis is dinged up too. So I don't think that the Steelers that New England played on Monday night are going to be the same Steelers in Week 12.

New England still needs to prove to me that they can beat Miami before I'll start trumpeting them "best in the AFC". And that's not disrespect, it's just the way the pecking order lies right now.

Now, to the QUOTES:

Now where are all the people in the "Pick 'em" thread that picked the Pats to win this week coming up? 14 out of 16 people picked the Pats to beat the Jets so far.

Well, the Pats are better than the Jets. I still think the Jets can't go anywhere with a 40-year-old colorblind quarterback throwing to 5'9" receivers. If you had asked me before the Steelers game whether the Pats could beat the Jets, I'd have said yes. The Steelers game hasn't changed anything in my mind.

I hope this game, once and for all, shows everyone what an overrated piece of garbage Kordell Stewart is. I can't believe a coach of Bill Cowher's level can be satissfied with Kordell at QB.

Firstly, they don't use Kordell right. Secondly, he's not that bad if you don't ask him to do anything spectacular, like come from behind. Personally, now that they have Randle-El, I'd like to see then line Kordell out wide a little bit more and let Randle-El take a few snaps, if only to get Kordell the ball in space. I'd like to see the Steelers run him more, too.

Steelers are my favorite team and i was at the game in person (section 307) and New England was THE best team out of all 32 that I saw week one.

I hate Kordell on an aside

You're right, they definitely wont be the same team because by then Kordell wont even be starting, Bettis will be backing up Zeroue and Fu.

Fact of the matter is, no matter how "Talented" you think Pittsburgh's offense is, better Defense will ALWAYS win.

I think the pats won more because of their passing attack. They just went out and tore them apart with it.

I hope Kordell's not starting. He should just be on the field part time, for all the special plays. He is NOT an NFL QB

Ricky Williams says his shoulder is bothering him. He says that he may need an operation in the offseason. But he's not on the injury report and he will play Sunday against the Colts.

I didn't mean to say that New Engalnd didn't probably put together the most complete game of anyoner last week; what I meant was one game does not a season make.

You're right, they definitely wont be the same team because by then Kordell wont even be starting, Bettis will be backing up Zeroue and Fu.

You can't really think that having Charlie Batch hand off to Amos Zeruoue is the best way for Pittsburgh to win. That's bordering on insane. Yeah, Kordell loooked like crap last week, and yeah Bettis didn't play well, but again, ONE GAME. Last year, Kordell was 21-37 for 181 yards and two picks against Jacksonville in Week 1. By Week 16, they were talking about Kordell as a dark horse for the MVP.

Fact of the matter is, no matter how "Talented" you think Pittsburgh's offense is, better Defense will ALWAYS win.

Sure, I'll agree with that. Of course, it was New Engalnd's OFFENSE that beat Pittsburgh, scoring early and giving a very good defense fits with its play-calling. I LOVE lots of defense. I'm a big-time, old-school, smash-mouth, control-the-line-of-scrimmage, kill-the-quarterback kind of guy. But a good offense that can find a weakness in a good defense will pick that weakness apart. Look a New England's offense, exploiting the pass coverage abilities of the linebackers in the 3-4 scheme.

I just meant that Bettis will be hurt soon anyways...

As for the Pats offense, YES they did well in the second half and they did the scoring last week but the Defense set them up. If the Pats D wasnt as good as it was last week they wouldnt have had any chance at even sniffing the Endzone. In the first half Brady and co. couldnt put together any kind of great drives, their D set them up with great field position and Weis' schemes found holes in the 3-4.

The Patriots have been winning most of their games(during this 10 game win streak) with GREAT Defense and GREAT Special Teams...with a mediocre/pretty good Offense doing what needs to be done when it comes to ball control.

I cant WAIT til NE plays Miami...Miami needs to see what a REAL defense can do.

Where's all the Pro J-E-T-S fans now? lol

As for you loyal WEEI listeners, can't wait to hear what "Al from Everett" says now.

He'll probably make fun of Bledsoe some more.

At least Butch from the Cape stuck to his guns.

Al from Everett can't make fun of Bledsoe, Drew won yesterday, and Al's

J-E-T-S L-O-S-T (that's right Terry Glenn, they did, D-I-D, did!)

I know it's still early, but the Pats ARE the team to beat in the AFC. Screw Miami, screw Shittsburgh, screw the Jets.

By the way, latest lines have KC 22 point favorites over the Pats

(not really, but hopefully that's what BB is telling them!)

There far from the best team...but I know who the most fun team to watch in the AFC is right now.

The Bills.

You just don't know what is going to go wrong next, what will go right next...and what will win or cost them the game.

Good Lord...two weeks in and I'm burned out after those games.

By the way...I don't know how anyone could make fun of Bledsoe after yesterday. Whatever it was people thought he lost...I think he found it.

Losing that job in New England was the best thing that ever happened to him.

I have been a Bledsoe fan since he came out (because I was a Pats fan even though I live in Buffalo)

So I was pretty pumped when my favorite player was coming to my hometown team...

but this isn't the Bledsoe I watched for the last few years.

This is one scary motherfucker who refuses to lose when he's on the field.

In week 1 the Special Teams blew his first game after he led a great drive completing 2 4th down passes at the end of the 4th quarter (including the big 4th and 9 from the 29 TD to Moulds to tie it)

In week 2 the Defense let in 39 points...and almost cost him 2 big 4th quarter drives, one to take the lead near the end, the second to set up the game tying field goal...when they got the ball with only 26 seconds left.

He has that Offense firing on all cylinders. With Moulds, Price and Reed at WR, Centers catching out of the backfield, and Riemersma lurking to make a couple huge catched like last game...the passing game is scary.

463 yards, 3 TD no INTs, 2 late 4th quarter drives at the end of the game, 2 OT Drives (first one had a missed FG...second it took 2 plays to drive down for the TD)

That's just disgusting.

Something is driving him to outdo anything he's done in years.

I can't wait for next week when the Jets show the champs who the best team in the AFC is.

Man did the Jets show the champs who the best team in the AFC was... The only reason I'm mad at the Patriots was that they fucked my over/under ticket...

Oh, BTW, was anybody screaming Norwood after Hollis shanked that field goal in Overtime ???

No...

because he'd already made 2 50 + yarders that game...and they never would have been in OT had he not hit the 54 yarder with time expiring.

So...no.
