Good fucking lord I've been getting annoyed with him lately but tonight was the fuckin' line in the sand. I had to tape Raw tonight and almost shut it off 30 mins in cause Lawler was getting so bad. At one point Lawler was like "Yeah HLA is coming soon!!!" and JR kind of muttered "I wish it was right now", not cause JR wanted to see the HLA but just so Lawler would finally shut the fuck up. I fast forwarded the women's tag match just because I couldn't even imagine how bad Lawler would have gotten durring that match. The man has no place behing the mic at all. He doesn't do ANYTHING to get wrestlers or storylines over and just comes off as some 50 year old pervert who screams "Puppies Puppies" for a 2 hour show. I would mark out like never before if JR or any wrestlers did a shoot on him and told him how embarassing he sounded and how he has no business behind the mic(that's where that one-time angle with Raven should have gone).

Listening to Lawler is like listening to a recently divorced father in law who has been lobotomized.

When I did watch Raw (and whenever I start watching again in the future), I found myself having to hit the mute button, if not out-and-out FF'ing through many of Lawler's antics. Surprisingly, the Cole/Tazz team on SD! have been improving as of late.

Well, I'm all for the removal of the King from the Monday NitRaw booth. It's sad that anybody that wants to "prove how much the WWE corrupts morals" can simply pop in an audio tape of Jerry Lawler's commentary at any given moment within the past few months and appear to have a valid point.

I think that you should write letters to TNN/Viacom. Their opinion of "We don't like what Lawler's doing, so either have him tone it down or get rid of him" would have more impact.

My E-mail, which I don't really consider articulate, but who knows, maybe I'm wrong.

 

I just have a few thoughts that I would like to bring to your attention.

 

1. I did watch Raw Monday night and I thought it was pretty bad, besides the ***+ main event match.  I don't exactly know what the point was with the HLA skit.  I don't think it was meant for shock value because by now 75% of the fans should've known that the angle wouldn't deliver.  I don't think it was meant to get the Island Boyz over because the lesbians didn't have enough heat to achieve that.  Another problem with the skit was announcing it so early in the show because it gave Jerry Lawler WAY too much time to continually mention it, a point that I'll get to in a short while.  Now I wasn't offended by the skit in the least, I just thought it was a waste of perfectly good wrestling time.  Besides that, the wrestling was solid at best.  The only other low lights would have been the lady's tag-match, which featured numerous blown spots.  HHH-Spike was boring as hell, but the post-match antics saved it from being a complete waste.  Having RVD go over was definitely the right decision, unless he jobs to HHH at Unforgiven, which would be taking one step in the right direction, but about three in the wrong direction.  Another highlight of the main event was only giving the Big Show four minutes of in-ring time.  In closing, the show was bad, but not 3.4 bad.  Maybe Raw should be moved to another day of the week while Monday Night Football is airing.  A believable explanation for this would be, "No longer will Americans have to chose between their two favorite pastimes."

 

2. Now it's time to focus on the absolute low light of Raw for all of 2002, Jerry Lawler.  I used to LOVE Jerry Lawler as a commentator and a wrestler.  He was a god back from 1993-1998.  Then Lawler became a juvenile shell of his former self.  This was the man who wrote some of the greatest promo material in wrestling history, yet now all he does is scream phrases like "HYMEN", "BRA 'N PANTIES", "LESBIANS", "PUPPIES", and the list goes on.  I don't want Lawler to be fired altogether, but let the guy go back to doing what he always did best.  He is a comic genius, as he proved in the mid-late 1990's.  I read an e-mail Lawler sent to a fan who complained about his commentary.  Basically he said that all of his material is written for him.  If you ask me, that is the biggest mistake that the WWE is making with Raw.  Lawler's present commentary, whether you want to believe it or not, is the reason many fans have been changing their channels.  Hell, I would rather listen to Greta Van Sustren than present-day Lawler.

 

3. Lastly, as the 3.4 rating proved, the only fans that the WWE has left are the diehards, like myself, that have been watching for years.  I personally have been a WWF fan since the summer of 1994.  Right now is when the WWE has to rebuild.  The WWF successfully did this back in 1997, after they had been slumping for 4+ years.  The way that the WWF achieved this was by listening to its diehard fans.  If the diehard fans don't like the product, why would the casual fans like it?  Instead of shunning away ideas from the "Internet Smarts", why not listen to some of them, since we are more or less the only consistent viewers that are left.  Rather than trying to "shock" us, why not put on good wrestling matches and exciting storylines.  Believe it or not, I would see an RVD-Booker T match than lesbians.  This is a WRESTLING federation.  If I wanted to watch porn, there are plenty of other places to find it.

 

I just had to get that off my chest because lately it has been very frustrating to just sit back and watch my favorite hobby die right in front of my eyes.
