Guest C.H.U.D. Report post Posted September 10, 2002 Not nearly as many releases as last week, but there are some great titles nonetheless. Changing Lanes Very moody, well acted and written film is not the "road rage" picture you may think it is. The DVD is decent SE, so hopefully there will be no re-release in the future. The Count of Monte Cristo Excellent adaptation of the classic story arrives on DVD in a loaded SE with deleted scene's, commentary and more. If you like the story, or previous film versions, check out this latest telling. The Initiation Mildly popular 80's slasher flick get's a barebones, widescreen release from Anchor Bay. Near Dark One of my favourite vampire films ever get's a well deserved 2 disc SE release from Anchor Bay, including commentary, a new documentary and a deleted scene. If you like vampire films and have never seen this movie, I highly recommend it. The Salton Sea One of my favourite movies of 2002 so far. Beautifully shot, with excellent music, accompanied by good writing and unique characters. This film is not for everyone, but worth exploring. Society Bryan Yuzna's freaky cult classic arrives on DVD uncut with commentary by the director. The last 20 minutes of the film are unreal. 'Till next week. Guest J*ingus Report post Posted September 10, 2002 What are Salton Sea and Society about? (And am I the only one that thinks that Near Dark's ending was more depressing than it had to be, considering what was revealed about vampire physiology in the last few minutes?) Guest mach7 Report post Posted September 10, 2002 I agree with The Salton Sea, but CHUD, c'mon! --> Count of Monte Cristo? I'd say that IF you liked the book you should stay far far away from this movie because it will disappoint the hell out of you. If you've never read the book, then fine. Otherwise, this "Hollywood-ized" piece of garbage isn't worth the time or money.
Guest C.H.U.D. Report post Posted September 10, 2002 Hehe, actually, I haven't read the book. I "know" the story, but I haven't read it. It's almost always like that, if you read the book, chances are you'll hate the movie. I didn't love Cristo, but I did enjoy it, although it's the weakest of the 3 "recent theatrical" releases. Maybe I'll have to check out the book. What is so bad about the adaptation? Did they change a lot of stuff, or leave a lot out?
Guest MDH257 Report post Posted September 10, 2002 I thought Monte Cristo was going to be very cheesy, but I was suprised that it turned out to be a good movie. Luiz Guzman is very funny.
