Best TV Production

Recommended Posts

Guest ShooterJay

I've mentioned this before, but I produced TV shows for a couple of very small indies in New England, and I'm currently shopping around for other promotions in that area (Mass./NH) looking to do tapings.

That's not the point of the post. I'm just wondering, in your guys' opinions, which indy, anywhere in the country, has the best TV production? One of the reasons I wanted to buy a CZW tape is to compare their production to the stuff I've been doing. I've heard XPW's is pretty subpar, which I found strange considering the money and type of backers they have, and most of their income is from tape sales. I've heard Wildside is top notch for an indy. TNA does very well despite the budget cuts, although they NEED someone doing highlight packages BADLY. What about Ring of Honor? (I've never seen a Feinstein-produced tape)

Feedback is very much appreciated.

Wildside's production could use a shot of cash, and it shows. The editing is just fine, but they tape the whole thing in SuperVHS format, which doesn't provide the picture-perfect quality that Monday night viewers are used to.

Yeah, I've seen shows shot on S-VHS, it's pretty crappy.

Betacams, I think, are pretty much the best most indys can get. They're somewhat affordable, and the picture-quality is above average. The production group I'm with (all 2 of us) use Betacams, a DVC Pro if we can borrow it, and Hi-8 ("fancam"). We have a switcher system that we also borrow, which makes editing a lot easier.

Betacam is the best, but you have to spring for at least two cameras in order to keep it from looking bush-league, and that gets awful pricey.

well PCW from Arlington Texas was better produced than NWA Southwest in my opinion.

NWA Southwest had a Public Access tv feeling to it while PCW at least had a Sunday morning local sports talk show feeling to it.

PCW had music video packages with a local band Drowning Pool, and it looked as good as any music vid that ECW did. But when they went on location, outside of the Six Flags Gym, it looked like they used a fancam. Well that was 2000-2001 it might of improved lately

www.thegym.org is the website for PCW
