All you have to do is win 3 out of five. A few breaks and ANY team can advance. Except of course the ones not playing. That's true. Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted September 13, 2002 As long as the World Series doesn't involve the Yanks, I'm cool with it. Hell, I'd even welcome the Braves v. any AL playoff team. I'm really tired of seeing the Yanks in it every year. This looks like the year that they go down. Oh, and the A's v. Angels game on Wednesday was playoff quality. I regret falling asleep in the top of the 7th, as it appears I missed the RALLY MONKEY~! and the Angels winning. Even still, it was one of the better games that ESPN has broadcast in recent memory. Arizona, I'm fairly indifferent towards, as they beat the Yanks last year, but I'd like to see the A's/Angels/Twinkies/Cardinals win the series this year. Know it's really a matter of whether Oakland or Anaheim wins the A.L. West. Houston all but kissed their postseason hopes good bye with a 3-2 10 inning loss to St.Louis. Guest DragonflyKid Report post Posted September 14, 2002 The A's offense is not looking good right now, after beating up on all the jobber teams now they're facing good teams with good pitchers and are struggling. Good thing they have Zito and Huddy throwing shutouts to overcome the small amount of runs they are putting up. The Cards are a fun team to watch, they have the starting rotation and the offense to be sucessful in the playoffs. I would probably say the same, if anyone in the NL had a dominant team to go up against them. The Cardinals are still weak in starting pitching, while the Diamondbacks just added 1 year in age to the same roster from 2001. The Braves may falter again in the playoffs this year, so that "dominance" idea might not hold up anyway. But no matter who takes the pennant, I'm rooting for the NL. The series doesn't matter as much as it would have if Seattle were still in the race but they both have been playing well(Aside from Oakland's offensive slump.) and should have an exciting series. The difference between winning the wildcard or the division isn't all that important. Facing the Twins would be better than facing the Yanks but one would have to go through NY anyways. Home field advantage is a positive but only slightly, the better team is usually going to win no matter if they are home or away. The SF/LA series will basically have it all on the line, one team will make the playoffs and one will not. A head-to-head battle can really turn the momentum to one team's favor. Guest Brian Report post Posted September 17, 2002 Minnesota doesn't have the pitching of a New York and that's the difference. I think Oakland can beat New York, because they have the pitching. I don't know where the offense thing comes in with Oakland as they have Tejada and Chavez for starters, plus Justice and Durham; Dye has decent power but isn't hitting well, and Mabry has been hitting well for no reason.
