If enough people on this board are willing to do this, I'll make a list of ever match *** and up that I can find, then I'll post a copy of the list and email it to those interested. Hey if VH1 can do these type of lists for every type of music, we should be able to do this for wrestling. It's the mother of all polls. Anyone willing to try it?

It's an interesting idea, but you'd almost have to set up a point system for it. Like, have everybody vote for their matches from 1-100. 100 points for the match voted #1, 1 point for the match voted #100, and you can figure out the rest. I'd like to see exactly how the smark voting would go for something like that.

 

The problem is how many people would actually take the time to level it out, plus most of the pre-1985 stuff is hard to come by.

 

Then there's the matter of how to (or if) include Japanese and Mexican matches.

 

Still, I'm game.

JHawk, that would work, I'd be willing to acccept the fact that pre 85 stuff would be tough to have been seen. If a lot of guys are willing to do it and send it to me though, I'd do it. The point system would be easy because you just do it in reverse, #1 is 100 points, #2 is 99 points, etc.

not a good idea, i think. if it was primarily posters on this board who voted, puro would get the short end of the stick & we'd end up with something VERY unrepresentative of what the "greatest matches of all time" might be. the original hell in a cell would get something like 20, and misawa-kobashi/kawada-taue would get something like 65, and i can't think of anyone who's seen the latter & thinks that there are 65 better matches out there at all, nevermind hell in a cell. if we all had a more well-rounded wrestling education it would work better, but as it stands it would have a HEAVY wwf bias that would have no place being there.

The idea is good but it wont work as this list, while good, is mostly WWF/E and NWA/WCW and some japan matches but totally excludes the AWA (Rick Martel v Nick Bockwinkel) World Class Championship Wrestling (Flair v Kerry Von Erich, Von Erichs v Freebirds, Chris Adams v Kevin Von Erich) Southwest Championship Wrestling (Tully Blanchard v Gino Hernandez) Mid South (Magnum TA v Butch Reed, Mr Wrestling II v Butch Reed, Midnight Express v Rock N Roll Express) USWA (Lawler v Bill Dundee) Georgia (Tommy Rich v Buzz Sawyer, Jake Roberts v Ronnie Garvin, Road Warriors v Nikita and Ivan Koloff) and Florida (Windham v Sullivan, Rhodes v Sullivan). I dont even see old time WWF matches such as Sammartino v Zbyszko and Hogan v Piper or Muraco v Backlund.

 

Nice idea but this board is too much Rah Rah WWE and everything else sucks to actually work. Just my opinion.....
