WWE has been slowly pushing Edge to the top of the Smackdown roster as a babyface, with a major feud victory over Kurt Angle and a tag team title run with Hulk Hogan.

The push is seemingly a success at this point, as fans are finally starting to see Edge as a main player. There has been a buzz on Smackdown house shows that the pops Edge gets are among the loudest of any wrestler on that roster.

So hes shawn and christians marty. Is anyone really suprised it turned out that way?(of course someone will be)

Hes young, hes clean cut, he hasnt had a major problem, his psychology is a good bit off, but hes got time to make it better, and hes just starting his mainevent push, good luck edge.

I can honeslty see him as one of the few guys around to carry the WWF into the next phase of wrestling, whatever it may be.

It's good to see the WWE finally pushing Edge as a main eventer. I'm just waiting until he gets a shot at the WWE Title sometime. Actually, I'm thinking he'll win the WWE Title sometime in 2003.

Edge's wrestling is pretty good. There are only 2 things I ask of him.

1. Try to limit the spears to 5 per month

2. Stop being "zany"

I guess we'll see if they really do see him as a main eventer, and stop giving him wacky antics.

PS - I still think Christian totally showed up Edge after they broke up, but he got buried and Edge got pushed, oh well

With Edge...I liked him as a broody mystery guy that said nothing...but after they killed that off I liked him even better as a cocky surfer like heel...

But if he's not one of the two he really doesn't do much for me...but even though he's not in my top 10 I can really see why he's so big right now.

He does nothing for me, personally. His character isn't at all interesting. In fact, I'd go as far as to call him falt out boring. His pops and popularity seem more a product of his push than him actually doing anything.

But if he must get the title before anyone else, so be it. Fresh faces are always welcome in the main event, I say. Even Brock.

Edge has that sort of Hardy Charisma where he gets cheered for no good reason. Shoot, he was getting pretty good reactions when he was "living a gothic lifestyle"... what was the deal with that anyway? He's pretty dull, but so was Ricky Steamboat. Steady faces that fight the good fight because its good aren't bad things.

The only time I cared for his skits were the Mick Foley days.

Maybe they'll keep him away from Kurt now as a result. Hell, Vince's current booking favors heels anyways.

Edge entertained me as a tag team wrestler. And as a comedy act. I never have, dont now, and never will see him as a serious contender, even if they put the title on him. He's a joke, always has been. Cant bump worth shit (boy did he love those rope/groin bumps in ladder matches, cause those were all he ever seemed to take, it was as much a token in the match as a HHH high knee), and no-sells like a motherfucker.

Now RVD, he may no-sell, but at least he's an entertaining character. RVD may be a laid back pothead, but what is Edge? A surfer who cant grow up and still hates dorks? What is this, Orange County?

It seems they are, but now he's doing the same thing to Eddy

At the latest show I went to, Edge's pop only trailed The Rock's in sound. He's believable as a main eventer, but something about how he looks bugs me. I don't know, he just looks...gangly. I can't really explain it. He looks awkward a lot of times in the ring.

Although you may like him, Eddy currently has NO long-term future with the company at the minute. They don't seem to have anything long-term with him, and his only real current storyline has been being Benoit's promo boy.

After he got pinned by Rocky on Raw some months ago, they haven't had a clue what to do with the guy. Kurt though is waiting in line for a title shot.

It is really great to know how many people on this board are so into wrestling.

Edge IS NOT a great wrestler.

Yet, he is better than:

RVD

Christian

Lance Storm

and a ton others.

In fact, the only people that come to mind as really being superior and totally out of his league are:

Benoit

Guerrero

Noble

Austin

Angle

Beyond that, I don't see much difference between Edge and the rest of the roster, except for the fact that Edge is better than most of them.

a workrate freak denying Chavo?

pfffffffffft.

That guy had it right, Edge is more or less the same as the rest of the roster. Personally, I think he got a "hair" push, like Diesel.

On a side note, my favorite Edge gimmick was when he was "gothic" and he would just scream in the middle of the match for no reason. Then Cole would go, "There's that 'inner rage' from Edge".

HA!

And he has a ring at his house and is in the best shape of his life. I bet he still go's at it once or twice a week.

Posted

What, the guy can't take bumps and practice going off the ropes? That's a big part of ring rust right there is being up to speed, the other part is timing which he'll pick up quicker. And being in good shape will help him alot.

Edge is NOT better than Christian. Christian has a deeper moveset and better promos. Edge just happened to get the push instead of Christian.

I'd even say he's not better than RVD. Edge's no-selling is worse than RVD in my eyes. Cause while RVD does some no-selling his usually doesn't make the whole match look rediculous in the process like Edge's does. Plus RVD takes some wicked head-bumps and sells them well. I really think RVD's "no-selling" gets blown out of proportion.

I just don't get the popularity of Edge. He is gangly looking. His promos are almost laughably bad. And most of his matches are spears. Plus the Edge-a-cution is a little rediculous seeing as his opponent pretty much jumps of their own free will into a ddt.

That's laughable. You take away all the versions of the Inverted DDT and Christian's moveset is FINISHED except for the Unprettier. I used to be a big Christian fan back when they first separated, but looking at his body of work since then, I can safely say he blows ass in the ring.

RVD's no-selling isn't that bad? Even when he basically blows the entire story of the match with a pointless flip-flop move? Edge isn't the best seller in the world, but at least he tries to do it the entire match unlike Rob.

Christian is a great talker, but he's not nearly the wrestler Edge is.

Maybe it's just that Christian's matches seem to flow better than Edge's to me. Maybe it's Christian's transition work. RVD sells throughout the match pretty well. It's mostly when he goes for the 5 star and does that leap to the top rope even though he's hurt.

I just don't get much out of Edge for some reason.

The way I see it is that there are far worse wrestlers than I can think getting the push he is right now.

That he is a reasonably good wrestler is a bonus for us - Edge's look has almost given him this push by itself. He was always earmarked for a main event push based off his look just a few months after his debut.

The fact that he helped get Christian a job and stuck around with him in the tag team for so long is probably down to friendship.

RVD has much slicker looking offense than Edge, and although Edge usually sells better, I still favor RVD. Both are on different brands, so that isn't an issue

Christian is much better than Edge, sorry. Ditto for Storm. Their matches have been sub par since the Un Americans were formed, but Edge has never had anything special offensively besides his 5 or so finishers he's had during his WWE career.

Chavo, Funaki, Rey, Helms, Moore and most of the cruisers outshine Edge in ring skills.

Of course, HBK was a chubber above-average worker in his Rockers days, so Edge may prove me wrong with vast improvement, but I don't find his matches signifcantly better than a Val Venis or Bob Holly, who are midcarders 4 life.

Amen...he was a screaming idiot though with no real personality, who tried to be a pretty blond-haired Kanyon. The Brood and Christian saved his career before he became another "Blue Chipper." He may have been greener then, and injured some guys, but he's even less exciting to watch now since his offense seems so limited.

Someday...I think I'll write a article for smarktalk about the Edge/RVD story.

I find it infintely interesting.

You have 2 guys...one of which is a WWE guy, the other was an afterthought brought in for an angle that didn't work.

I'm not going to get into ability...because it has NOTHING to do with being a WWE main eventer. Anyone who says it does is either wrong, or lying.

In short...you have RVD who was the day he showed up in a position they have been trying to get Edge to for a LONG time.

And they didn't pull the trigger on RVD...and are still waiting for Edge to catch up.

I know I'll pass on Edge/Brock if that ever comes up.

Well his character does nothing for me without Christian but he seems to be over with the masses and is a good looking marketable guy so I'd say he makes sense as a main eventer

Eh, when I see Edge I just think that it could have been Mark Henry...
