Guest Boseephus Jones Report post Posted September 12, 2002 Well, this is my first time here in months. And I can't get my old user name "Armchair Booker" back even though there is nobody using it. Anywhoo, I'm gonna start up another list, hopefully it is not one that has been too over done. I'm talkin' 20 Best Wrestlemania matches of all time. It is a combination of match quality and historical importance, but quality gets the nod. For example, it has to be really important just to make it based on importance. For example, Hogan and Andre is here, but not the first main event at WM I. The general rule of thumb is if you were to make a tape for a beginning fan, what 20 Wrestlemania matches would you put on it. Rate them if you want, but it's not necessary. Go in chronological order if you please. Now here goes: Wrestlemania 2:Dream Team vs. Bulldogs Wrestlemania III:Savage vs. Steamboat Hogan vs. Andre Wrestlemania IV:Savage vs. Dibiase Wrestlemania V:Hogan vs. Savage Wrestlemania VI:Hogan vs. Warrior Wrestlemania VII:Warrior vs. Savage Wrestlemania VIII:Bret vs. Piper Flair vs. Savage Wrestlemania X:Owen vs. Bret Shawn vs. Razor Wrestlemania XII:Bret vs. Shawn Wrestlemania 13:Bret vs. Austin Wrestlemania XIV:Shawn vs. Austin Wrestlemania 2000:Hardyz vs. Dudleyz vs. Edge and Christian Angle vs. Benoit vs. Jericho Wrestlemania X7:Hardyz vs. Dudleyz vs. Edge and Christian Undertaker vs. Triple H Austin vs. The Rock Wrestlemania X8:Hogan vs. Rock Note: For the last one I was down to Hollywood Backlot Brawl at XII, Dumpster match at XIV, and Threeway at 2000. It was basically a toss up. I was never really big on the three way, as I only seen it once-when I saw it live on PPV-and it did not seem that good, with little crowd reaction (and that is the main indication of a good match, contrary to what everybody chooses to admit). I gave it to the threeway, because I haven't sat down to watch it again so I will give everybody the benefit of the doubt and put it on the list as those guys are some of the best pure wrestlers (a case could be made for Y2J). And why the fuck did they have the IC go first, then the Euro belt. It made the match less climactic and didn't have to be done. I don't get the logic. It's amazing when you look at it, how very little the number of really good Wrestlemania matches there are. Some memorable ones(ie. Warrior vs. Rude, Rock vs. Shamrock, Andre vs. Studd, Piper vs. T and on) but not many you would want to watch again and again.
