Guest Brian Report post Posted September 13, 2002 That's because they have Monk. That's the only show I tape regularly anymore; on occasion I may tape a few RAWS or SmackDown's I might miss.
Guest creativename Report post Posted September 13, 2002 Short answer: They aren't the same, and house shows, which used to be a very lucrative part of the WWF's business, have taken quite a blow within the last year and a half, to say the least. Dude, there may be some difference in attendance at indivuals house shows based on whether or not the Rock is coming or something, but I simply do not see how you can deny that the two things are EXTREMELY correlated. Attendence app.= Ratings app.= Buyrates app.= Merchandising revenues app.= Fan Interest [With respect to relative changes of course] House shows are lucrative, but attendenance there will fluctuate with ratings, and vice versa. That's just how it is, and the same is true of virtually any non-diversified business. All divisions related to the same product line will covary highly with one another. Guest Brian Report post Posted September 13, 2002 Ratings were lower in 2000 than they were in 1999 but house show attendance was much higher, and money per head was higher.

They aren't extremely co-related. People who go to house shows watch the TV, but people who watch the TV don't always go to the house shows, and that can be for a number of reasons, but when you've got guys like Taker, Hogan, and Rock with the World Title, and not working house shows, it hurts them, no matter what ratings they might be doing. They don't have to coincide, and quite frequently, they don't.

I already gave you a link to the friggin' WWE annual report, for chrissakes. # of events_______Total Attendance__Avg. Raw Rating____PPV buys 237_____________2032754_________4.6______________7135464 212_____________2449800_________5.35_____________8010400 206_____________2485100_________6.2______________6884600 199_____________2273701_________5.0______________5365100 218_____________1576112_________3.1______________2936100 Based on the yearly data from 1998 to 2002, the correlations between the variables are as follows: Average Raw Ratings with PPV buys*: 0.789 PPV buys with Total Attendance: 0.819 Average Raw ratings with Attendance: 0.968 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *Note: The Raw ratings used figure for 2001 was a weighed average of the ratings for TNN and USA; 14 shows for TNN, 38 for USA This is an ALMOST PERFECT correlation. If you count average attendance instead of total attendance, the correlation with Raw Ratings is still 0.92. This is still an almost perfect correlation. To be frank, even I was stunned that the correlations were this extreme. In any case the evidence is incredibly clear cut. 'NUFF SAID.
