I don't think I'm going out on a limb myself in thinking that particular post was uneccessary and inaproppriate.

My purpose in posting the 9/11 thread in CE was to remember the atrocity that occurred last year. To honour the memory of the dead, to declare anew my loyalty to my country, and to pledge to bring utter devastation upon the evil bastards who committed those terrible crimes against humanity.

Had you the slightest scrap of intelligence between your ears, you would have understood that: as did almost everyone else, except for Chris (naturally) and the Perfect Bo crackhead (who, by the way, has a drag queen nickname if I ever heard one). Scorpion posted America the Beautiful; Bob, God Bless America; Dante, the Battle Hymn of the Republic; CRD, My Country, 'Tis of Thee; Curry, a requiescat in pace; Dames, a link to his own personal and moving experience; Vern, the Gettysburg Address; Citrus, God Bless the USA; UYI/Respect the Taker, Bob, Flyboy, and Doyle, an acknowledgement of the grief and heroism that day inspired; Hoffman, a moment of silence; Jango Fett, an article by a Canadian who saw clearly the virtue and beauty of the United States; Ace, a recount of his own experience, and something he saw that touched him; Daniel, The Ballad of the Green Beret; hardyz1, an acknowledgement of love for the country; Marvin, a JFK quote - but we'll forgive him because it was a good one...

 

Hmm, seems pretty much everyone but you, the insane conspiracy theorist, and the perennial anti-American knee-jerk liberal understood my intent perfectly. I don't think all those religious references sit very easily with the kind of sentiments often expressed elsewhere on the folder by her as well.

Why? When was the last time the Pope endorsed the mass murder of innocents, or decreed that a writer who tried to figure out the date the Bible was written must be killed? The Christian faith and Islam are simply not on the same moral plane. The latter, as practiced in an unquestioned and absolute form by a significant portion of Moslems, directly enables terrorism. The former is no longer practiced in the same way, and is thus objectively better. Is everything religious in any way evil? Of course not. It depends on what you do with it.
