Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted September 13, 2002 Im Watching Super J Cup 94, during the Jyushin Lyger vs Hayabusa match. and got me thinking here. this was Eiji's first Japanese match back as Hayabusa. And he was still relatively Green compared to what he was years later. Do you believe him at this point to be one of the top 10 lightweights compared to those stateside. And if you do what point would you place him at?
Guest Jubuki Report post Posted September 13, 2002 When Sabu is the big US threat in terms of quality, it's not much of a comparison. Sure, Eddy and Dean and Benoit were around, but they were billed as NJ workers for a good reason; it was a while before any of them would leave for ECW for good. H wasn't top 10 worldwide. Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted September 13, 2002 Junior heavyweights in the US didn't get popular in the 1990's until WCW started the Cruiserweight Title. Jubuki already pointed out that most of the good American workers were working in New Japan already, the only one who might rank at this point in time would be Brian Pillman. But AAA, Michinoku Pro, and New Japan had all the good Junior workers at this point.
Guest wolverine Report post Posted September 14, 2002 I can't wait until I get a hold of some of the more highly acclaimed junior matches from early 1996 that are being released unedited on NJ Classics. Just as Tim mentioned on tOA, the 3/96 Liger-Ohtani, 3/96 Benoit-Ohtani, as well as the 6/96 Benoit-Eddy are all seemingly must-sees in their entirety. I've never seen the 1/96 Ohtani-Sammy period, so I've got to check that out as well.
Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted September 14, 2002 Does anyone know if the Benoit vs Ohtani match in the "finals" of the WCW Cruiserweight Title Tournament is available unedited on video.
Guest Tim Cooke Report post Posted September 14, 2002 Hopefully on the NJ Classics set for next month. Other than that, no. Tim
Guest Jubuki Report post Posted September 14, 2002 It probably won't be out for a while -- they seem to be really wrapped up in showing as much of the NJ vs. UWFi feud as possible. There were shows all throughout February & early March that covered that stuff. Speaking of which, I need to hunt down that Kosh vs. Takada match from the UWFi show. Guest Coffin Surfer Report post Posted September 14, 2002 Does anyone know if the Benoit vs Ohtani match in the "finals" of the WCW Cruiserweight Title Tournament is available unedited on video. Yeah, I really would like to see that whole match. From what was shown it looked like a classic and one of the best matches between the two. Ohtani gave one hell of a performance in those final minutes, great selling.
