What do Admins really do?

Recommended Posts

Guest Youth N Asia

This is not a knock on Administrators or anything...but what do you guys really do on the board other then edit posts, ban people, and whatnot.

I keep seeing posts where everyone wants to be an Admin

Just curious really

I'm guessing by "Administrator," you're including both the (super) moderator group and the forum admin group.

Moderators close and delete topics, pin topics, move topics to a forum more appropriate, edit posts if need be, and ban people when necessary. Admins can do all of those things, as well as alter the basic settings of the board and the way it's setup (which the super mod group can't).

As for why so many want to be mods... you'd really have to ask them. I would imagine most of them think it's some kind of status symbol, like the gaudy post counts they "earned" by whoring. To me, it's a duty that involves a large amount of responsibility, and I take it seriously. I think everyone on the moderating/admin team takes their duties seriously, and I don't think a lot of the people who claim they'd make good mods would do that. It's NOT a status symbol, it's NOT a trinket to show off to your friends, and it's NOT something neat to have so you can go and do cool shit to people you don't like. It IS a serious responsibility, and only people who can treat it as such should be considered for it.

I didn't mean to get off a rant there. It just irritates me when I see people offer their "services" after a month of post whoring, or people who remind us every month that they'd make good additions to the team. But maybe I'm just a more responsible chap than most.

I personally don't see why anyone here would want to be a mod so badly, as everytime someone is banned, they are jumped all over (and yes, I'm guilty of doing this, myself).

Seems to me like it would distract me from enjoying posting, as people would run to you with all sorts of petty problems.

And yes, all the 'can I be a mod?' stuff can get annoying, fast.

Finding out what a Mod does is like being a kid at school who wonders what the teachers do at "the teachers lounge". When you become one you end up finding out all they do behind close doors is drink and smoke. :)

In all seriousness, Dr. Tom pretty much told you what a Mod does.

Tony, you're like the 'invisible mod'. No offence, or anything, but it just seems like you pass under the radar when mods are being discussed.

(And that's not nescessarily a bad thing.)

I'm not sure what a mod does...

but all the admins do is ask for my autograph.

Stop pestering me!

I'm looking in your direction, Dames...

Well I hear admins make a monthly sacrifice to the gods of wrestling, but my source may be lying

Well, all I can say is 'keep dreaming', because I doubt it's going to happen.

I'd never want to be a mod. People from the various cliques will end up hating you, no matter what you do. Online responsibility is a needless task.

I'm a mod at SmarkTalk, but I can't even figure out how to pin a topic so I don't really have much to add to this, besides bragging about my Modhood at another less populated forum, which is conviently linked in my sig (OMG SPAM!).

Being a Super Moderator has it's perks but also some drawbacks depending on how involved you are with the forum. Back in the day, Bower and I handled just about everything on the board aside from the design portion and it was fun but you get tired of having to babysit children (and that's how you look at it after a while). If you can keep a cool head and you've got patience and dedication then it's fulfilling. Otherwise it's just annoying and an easy way for someone to abuse their powers and end up being just as bad as the "children" they were looking after beforehand.
