Guest FeArHaVoC Report post Posted September 15, 2002 Un-Americans Had Heat With McMahon Over Flag Burning At MSG The Un-Americans have toed the line of being overly controversial, and there was some heat between the wrestlers and Vince McMahon over the flag burning at MSG Raw a few weeks ago. It's not so much that the Un-Americans were upset about the actual angle, but wanted extra security in case the fans became incensed. Backstage reaction was mixed, with many wrestlers believing that the Un-Americans should be happy to have such a heel-heat drawing gimmick, and should not complain in any way. credit: Wrestling Observer Newsletter/411wrestling.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- God Forbid Wrestlers have concerns about their well being. btw, the topic line was suppose to say "HAD" not "HAS." Guest the 1inch punch Report post Posted September 15, 2002 In fairness, id have to agree with the locker room, Storm is getting the most heat he's ever got in his career, he ought to be grateful, personally id have to be pissed if i was selling for Bradshaw
Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted September 15, 2002 I see it for both sides. For the UnAmericans, I can see their argument about the heightened security. If Vince and Co. are going to send them out in New York to burn an American flag, I'd want extra security too. For the lockerroom, I think that a lot of the guys who are saying that they should be grateful would probably be saying the same things if they were in the same position. Guest nikowwf Report post Posted September 15, 2002 I was at MSG, and the buzz about the flag burning was not a good one. But I get the impression sometimes that any complain to the WWE, whether valid or not is not appreciated by management. Niko
Guest Akeem Report post Posted September 15, 2002 >Storm is getting the most heat he's ever got in his career He got more heat in WCW in Team Canada than in WWE in the Unamericans
Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted September 15, 2002 Thats just stupid. Its not like the UnAmericans refused to do stuff or had it changed like certain other members of the roster (HHH etc.) they wanted more security. WOW, so these guys want to slightly difuse a volatile situation and they get "heat" with the boys. Thats bullshit.

Guest Mad Dog Report post Posted September 15, 2002 I've come to realize that the WWE lockerroom is full of a bunch of whiney bitches. Geez let's hate these guys b/c they fear for their own safety when they have good reason to. And Lance Storm had a ton more heel heat in WCW. Remember he was the no.1 or no.2 heel for a good part of 2000. His title match with Booker T on a Nitro is a good example. When he slapped on the Maple Leaf everyone was going nuts b/c no one had escaped it to that point.
Guest Mulatto Heat Report post Posted September 15, 2002 When he slapped on the Maple Leaf everyone was going nuts b/c no one had escaped it to that point. Which pretty much goes to show how submissions have gone to shit these days, since it's almost impossible for faces to tap so as to not lose an ounce of precious heat..... Guest TheArchiteck Report post Posted September 16, 2002 God, these guys whine about the littlest stuff. What wrong with asking for more protection at a time when everyone is extra patrotic and your threating to burn their flags? Doesn't make sense 2 me.
Guest evilhomer Report post Posted September 16, 2002 In fairness, id have to agree with the locker room, Storm is getting the most heat he's ever got in his career, he ought to be grateful. Heel heat doesn't matter to a dead man (no Taker pun intended). Here's the scenario the Un-Ams were worried about. One guy hops the rail, he takes the attention of 2 or 3 security guards. Another guy takes advantage of the opening and gets into the ring, only to be beaten down by the Un-Ams. Ten friends who have had 20 beers too many between them see these flag burning bastards beating the shit out of a fellow American and rush the ring. Too many more in the crowd follow the example and a riot ensues. A highly unlikely scenario, but one that was possible. There's no way to know what's going through the minds of people, especially with New York residents that close to the 9/11 anniversary. A worker isn't out of line asking for extra protection when faced with such a situation, however unlikely.
Guest BlackRainbow1025 Report post Posted September 16, 2002 To be honest, my dad and I were talking about this when it was happening. We were discussing how stupid it was, being in NYC. I mean, like it's been said, all it takes is a few drunks rushing the ring and a full scale riot can break out. It's a very dangerous situation. As far as the other "boys" complaining about the Un-Americans wanting extra security.....I think it's just jealousy. I'm sure it was most of the jobbers like Justin Credible or people like that, relegated to Heat, complaining b/c they don't get a push.
