Guest Youth N Asia Posted September 15, 2002 Report Posted September 15, 2002 Everyone has an opinion...what's yours.
Guest Ravenbomb Posted September 15, 2002 Report Posted September 15, 2002 the first Evil Dead was the best. The 2nd two were good, but they just weren't the same. All the neat looking special effects and studio-quality make-up in ED2 ruined the realism that ED had. I mean, what would scare you more, Sherryl or whats-her-name in the cellar from ED2?
Guest The Superstar Posted September 15, 2002 Report Posted September 15, 2002 I said Army of Darkness, because it's the most fun to watch. Not to say I don't love the first two and watch them religiously (Evil Dead II, the "Laughing Stock" part rules ALL!!!!!)
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted September 15, 2002 Report Posted September 15, 2002 Evil Dead 2 all the way
Guest Mattdotcom Posted September 15, 2002 Report Posted September 15, 2002 Evil Dead 2, aside from being the first DVD I ever reviewed, was also one of the few films I'd give *****. Evil Dead 2, A Face in the Crowd, Fight Club, and Citizen Kane are the others I'd give the valued rating. Monty Python films, Jaws(and almost any Spielberg flick from the seventies and eighties), and Halloween are probably close. I'm probably forgetting some.
Guest J*ingus Posted September 15, 2002 Report Posted September 15, 2002 Evil Dead was a disturbing little horror movie, but it is automatically disqualified for any praise from me because of the scene where the woman is raped by the trees, which is possibly the single most disgusting, gratuitous, morally offensive thing I have seen in any movie. Evil Dead 2 fucking rocked. Hilarious all the way through, and even a bit frightening at parts. Army of Darkness... well, mixed feelings. I liked it, but it was paced oddly, and slowed WAY down towards the end.
Guest C.H.U.D. Posted September 15, 2002 Report Posted September 15, 2002 For a while, Evil Dead 2 was my least favourite of the trilogy. Over the years, it has grown on me to become my favourite of the trilogy. It has some of the low grade horror elements of the original, it has the cabin setting which I love, the debut of "Groovy" and the chainsaw arm, plus it has the slapstick humour of Army of Darkness. So part 2 all the way for me.
Guest GeneMean Posted September 15, 2002 Report Posted September 15, 2002 ED2 is easily my favorite. However Ash botching the words in AoD is my favorite scene out of all the films.
Guest El Satanico Posted September 15, 2002 Report Posted September 15, 2002 Evil Dead is great and i'm a big fan of AOD, but ED2 gets my vote. I just think it's the perfect mix of the horror in ED and the comedy in AOD. I don't see that big of a deal over that tree rape scene. I've seen much worse scenes.
Guest Mattdotcom Posted September 15, 2002 Report Posted September 15, 2002 Army of Darkness could get my vote if they'd lefy in a few deleted scenes and not changed the ending.
Guest evenflowDDT Posted September 16, 2002 Report Posted September 16, 2002 I'm gonna go with the original. I love both Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 equally, but they have totally different moods, and since Evil Dead is one of the few horror films I can watch in a serious mood and still be impressed by (unlike most films, it actually gets BETTER every time I see it instead of worse), that gets my vote, since if I just want silly stuff I have a whole collection of Full Moon & Something Weird discs. OK, not that many Something Weird, but I'm working on it!
Guest Gamengiri2002 Posted September 16, 2002 Report Posted September 16, 2002 Evil Dead 2. One of my ten favorite movies of all time. And its in good company (Taxi Driver, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Clerks, Fight Club, One Flew Over a Cuckoo's Nest, The Usual Suspects, Chinatown, Memento). It was just everything that a movie should be. The perfect mix of horror, comedy, action, Bruce Campbell being somewhere beyond cool, Everything man, I think i'm gonna go watch it right now.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted September 16, 2002 Report Posted September 16, 2002 With me it's a toss up between any of them...I picked Army cause it's one that I can pop in the DVD player any time...I never get tired of it.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted September 16, 2002 Report Posted September 16, 2002 I think the first half of Evil Dead 2 was some of the most creative direction I've ever seen.
Guest Mattdotcom Posted September 16, 2002 Report Posted September 16, 2002 That POV shot of the hand, looking up from the sink with running water, Ash's ride through the forrest, and the Ram-O-Cam from the woods, windshield of the Olds, and through the cabin are just a few of the greatest achievements of mankind.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted September 16, 2002 Report Posted September 16, 2002 The camera run through the cabin was so great, starting with the AMAZING through the windsheild shot. I'm also partial to the first person perspective used when Ash is trying to shoot his hand.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted September 17, 2002 Report Posted September 17, 2002 I've gotta go with the first one. Less comedy.
Guest Kagato Otaku Posted September 17, 2002 Report Posted September 17, 2002 Quick question - What's the difference between the Evil Dead 2 Tin Box and the regular movie on sale by itself? I mean, are the DVDs the same and it's just the promotional stuff that comes with the tin, or are the DVDs unique? I'm just curious. Poll - ED2 in a walk. Best combination of horror/comedy of the three, followed by AoD.
Guest C.H.U.D. Posted September 18, 2002 Report Posted September 18, 2002 Quick question - What's the difference between the Evil Dead 2 Tin Box and the regular movie on sale by itself? I mean, are the DVDs the same and it's just the promotional stuff that comes with the tin, or are the DVDs unique? I'm just curious. The content on the DVD's is exactly the same.
Guest Kagato Otaku Posted September 18, 2002 Report Posted September 18, 2002 I thought so, but thanks for the confirmation. Much appreciated. I'm a firm believer in not shelling out extra money just for a fancy keepcase, so I think I'll save the thirty dollars and leave the purty metal box on the shelf.
Guest Big McLargeHuge Posted September 18, 2002 Report Posted September 18, 2002 ED 2 gets my vote. The first scared the shit out of me as I was young when my uncles decided to unveil it upon my fragile mind. Darkness was great, but seemed too short. Like someone else said, it was paced soooo quickly. It was hard for me to accept that the movie had ended. Fun flick nonetheless. Plus part two has one of the single greatest shots in the history of cinema: Ash standing on the edge of the busted bridge, as the sun sets. His one thought: I'm fucked. Just brilliant.
Guest AndrewTS Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 AoD all the way...freakin' hilarious, and I watch it over and over again. ED2 though was damn good. The scenes with Ash fighting his own hand--particularly the part where it flipped him off and he was going apeshit trying to shoot it--had me rolling. I can really, really see why so many would find it their favorite. ED1 I didn't really care for, but I generally don't care for horror flicks much. Still, I think it's pretty good on it's own right, and no one...NO ONE will forget the tree rape scene. WAAAAAAY f***ed up...
Guest Kagato Otaku Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 As great as some of the bits in AoD are, I dig this scene too much not to give ED2 the duke. "Hey!! I'll swallow your soul, I'll swallow your soul, I'll swallow your soul, I'll..ghhggckk..!" "Swallow this."
Guest evenflowDDT Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 My favorite part in Evil Dead 2 is one of the few all-serious moments, the "dance of death". Beautiful choreography and dancing... thankfully they used a professional ballerina. Plus, even though the "shock" at the end of that scene is totally obvious, you just get so lost in the dance that the end of the scene seems so abrupt and still shocking.
