Guest Downhome Report post Posted September 15, 2002 First off, I just want to say that I love Rico, his character, his in ring ability, his style, EVERYTHING. I am not a fan of the "gay" characters, but the way they are pulling him off is just supurb. I see so much potential in this guy, so much that could be done with him, and I also see another thing, which worries me... ...I see no future for him much more than what he's at right now. Don't get me wrong, I REALLY wish that he would be pushed a bit more. Especially as a singles competitor under a new gimmick, but I highly doubt this will happen. I have only one reason for that line of thinking, and it's his age. To the best of my knowledge, Rico is no spring chicken, so I feel this will hinder any type of serious push. I really wish WWE wouldn't do this, but I fear the worst, but hey... ...if he DOES get pushed, it will be all the better suprise for me! So what is your opinions on Rico? Is he a manager for life under this gimmick, or could it be possible that he is destined for more, much, much more? Sincerely, ...Downhome...
Guest CanadianChick Report post Posted September 15, 2002 Judging by his age, I would say that the most he could be is probably an IC champion.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted September 15, 2002 Judging by his age, I would say that the most he could be is probably an IC champion. I hate that, even though it's more than likely true. I wish WWE lived by MY line of thinking... ...age means NOTHING, it's if you can perform and be entertaining in the ring is what matters!
Guest CanadianChick Report post Posted September 15, 2002 I think that unless you are a legend, if you are old, you are pretty much screwed.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted September 15, 2002 I think that unless you are a legend, if you are old, you are pretty much screwed. Yes, that is how it is, but it should NOT be that way.
Guest Nevermortal Report post Posted September 15, 2002 Well, judging by the end of the "Wedding" it looks as though big things are in store for Rico.
Guest LaParkaMarka Report post Posted September 15, 2002 Yeah...from the wedding, it seems like they're going to push him as major heel on Raw...maybe the next in line to fued with RVD after HHH squashes him. He might even get the IC title if they're planning on making the RVD-HHH fued last for a while. I see nothing wrong with that at all...Rico being elevated to upper midcard would be cool. Guest The Electrifyer Report post Posted September 15, 2002 If he changes gimmicks when he goes to Raw, will Rico have to shave those sideburns??

Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted September 15, 2002 What I don't understand, and I give them luck in trying to write for it on Raw, is WHY Rico was trying to trap two straight guys into being married. Obviously he wanted Stephanie out there for the Island Boys, but what was the point of forcing him into it?

Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted September 15, 2002 I still think this will end up being one of those HHH Master Plans. Then Billy and Bischoff will join him in DX. Nash will spend 6 months repeating "The band is back together" to himself, in the fetal position in his bathtub. Anyway, Rico kicks ass, no two ways about it. Anyone who can keep me from changing the channel when Billy Gunn comes on is obviously extremly talented. But, like Downhome said, Rico's 40, so he will do nothing. The best I see him doing is fighting 38 year old Booker T in a "Loser is forced into retirement" match.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted September 15, 2002 You know...Rico could become IC champion as soon as Raw... If they do go the route of having RVD drop the IC title before his match with HHH (having HHH cost him obviosuly) I can't think of anyone who would make more sense than Rico. Bischoff would surely reward him with an IC title shot after jumping sides. I vote yes on proposition Rico as IC champion. Midcard belt off!!!!!!
Guest midnight_burn Report post Posted September 15, 2002 I definately wouldn't mind Rico moving right into Intercontinental Title contention, he's definately talented in the ring and could become a very good upper-midcard heel on Raw.
Guest Human Fly Report post Posted September 15, 2002 Hopefully they'll give him a shot at competing full time in the ring. I'm afraid that he'll be stuck being Bischoff's full time assistant or something stupid like that.
Guest Mattdotcom Report post Posted September 15, 2002 Let's see....Rico has a fantastic haircut(like me), great fashion sense, and he was Batman at Six Flags. World Champion material.
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted September 15, 2002 Age should matter. He shouldn't be pushed to the top if his career is almost over. Not to mention that his current gimick would never make it in the main event anyway. Sorry, but Trips aint jobbing to the gay stylist no where, no time. He's an easy lock for midcarder with his charisma and good ring work, but beyond that it's just asking way too much of a guy in his posstion.
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted September 15, 2002 Rico's fucking awesome. I hope they push him huge.
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted September 15, 2002 I don't think Rico'll ever make it to the main event, but I really hope he ends up being a solid midcard guy. He's old, but he has a lot of experience, and is in ridiculously good shape for a man of 40. He's probably got a few years of action in him, and I think a great chance at doing some solid midcard stuff. My favorite of the "new guys" who've come up from development over the last several months, and a WWE homegrown product. Looks good.

Obviously he wanted Stephanie out there for the Island Boys, but what was the point of forcing him into it? To embarass B & C and become a full-tilt asshole heel. Exactly. It was a publicity stunt to get noticed, which is why Rico was taking all the credit for it. He basically came off as a leech, and now he'll get huge heel heat for conspiring to wreck the whole thing. He was getting really good heat before, but now that he "jumped" to the "bad side", fans'll be all over him. I just find it funny that Eric Bischoff of all people seems to be spearheading a WWF/E homegrown talent stable (Rico, Island Boyz).
Guest ShooterJay Report post Posted September 15, 2002 Age doesn't matter, as long as you can still work well. Jerry Lynn is 37 I think, Raven is almost 40 and still wrestles pretty much the same style he always has. Gran Hamada in Japan, he's in his 50s and still kicking ass. DDP at 45 was putting on ***1/2 matches with Jarrett, Kanyon and Steiner in WCW's dying days. Flair until about 2 years ago could still put on ***+ matches with mediocre workers (ex. Ric vs. David) Rico is in fantastic shape, looks about 5 years younger than he actually is, and can work at a fast pace. Age is a case-by-case thing, and shouldn't affect Rico's push.
Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted September 15, 2002 Rico shouldn't be affected by his age. I can't tell he's 40. He looks maybe 34, 35ish. Booker T doesn't look too old either.
Guest TheRockIsTheEuropeanChampion Report post Posted September 15, 2002 Until Rico breaks his hip,... push him to the top. He was my favourite wrestler on the SmackDown roster.. I'm totally irked now.
Guest Rob Edwards Report post Posted September 16, 2002 Yeah Rico is awesome, plus the fans absolutley despise him which means he could make a great upper midcarder who puts faces over on their way to the top of the card (kinda like Regal used to before the fans lost intrest in him)

Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted September 17, 2002 With the Euro title gone I don't see much happening for Rico these days...sorry That's exactly what I was going to say. I love Rico, I love his character, his moonsault, and his sideburns, but I wouldn't have even considered him at IC "level" until I read bps' scenario (which actually makes a lot of sense). If he's getting any sort of push though he needs a real finisher, not just a spinning heel kick.
Guest LaParkaMarka Report post Posted September 17, 2002 What, as opposed to Booker T, who has a freaking Scissor Kick as his finisher? It's a transition move. I imagine the Ricosault could be a valid finisher...at least more believable than the crappy kick. Methinks both Rico and Book need new finishers. Though, of course, Book has plenty of old ones he can pull out if need be.
