Guest Addy Posted September 15, 2002 Report Posted September 15, 2002 Any stories from GWAR shows you've been to? Apparently it's the most craziest mindfuck thing you'll ever see. Fuck...I hate living in the UK
Guest redbaron51 Posted September 15, 2002 Report Posted September 15, 2002 i heard they are absolutely horrible when playing live shows
Guest PuzzyBludPopzicle Posted September 15, 2002 Report Posted September 15, 2002 redbaron51 Posted on Sep 15 2002, 12:20 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i heard they are absolutely horrible when playing live shows shit don't tell me that. I might be going to their show...fuck it, ticket will be free anyway.
Guest Incandenza Posted September 15, 2002 Report Posted September 15, 2002 If you're into hearing a great rock performance live, GWAR should be avoided. It's all about theatrics, not music.
Guest El Satanico Posted September 15, 2002 Report Posted September 15, 2002 The theatrics is why most people go to a Gwar concert anyways.
Guest Incandenza Posted September 15, 2002 Report Posted September 15, 2002 The theatrics is why most people go to a Gwar concert anyways. Exactly. That's why it's ridiculous to say "GWAR sucks live," because anyone who would want to see him--i.e. Addy--wouldn't care.
Guest jimmy no nose Posted September 16, 2002 Report Posted September 16, 2002 I went to a GWAR show last May(I think it was May) and it ruled. There is just so much crazy stuff going on while they play. If they ever come around where you live you really should go. It was a great time, just make sure you don't wear nice clothes or anything.
Guest BottleRocket Posted September 16, 2002 Report Posted September 16, 2002 I saw Gwar on Halloween in 1996 with satanic ska band, Mephiskapheles. It was an enjoyable way to celebrate the holiday, but I would never do it again. It was like going to a Gallagher show, except with more fake semen.
Guest mesepher Posted September 17, 2002 Report Posted September 17, 2002 I remember someone saying something about a giant penis which ecajulated onto the crowd... and lots of blood too.
Guest converge241 Posted September 18, 2002 Report Posted September 18, 2002 this is like the 5th one in the history of this board !! wow! once agin the rules of a Gwar show 1) if youve never seen them before , go see them 2) do not see them more than once 3) do not buy any albums, except for scumdogs 4) buy their videos , but try to buy them used 5) it is you responsiblitity to help feed all the females (and there are a lot of females in attendance) into the monster/meat grinder {the contraption on the stage that eats the girls and sends them backstage} and the most importnat of all: you must get covered in everything the throw at you and have that stained clothing as a reminder enjoy
Guest Addy Posted September 18, 2002 Report Posted September 18, 2002 I already have all the GWAR albums apart from 'Hell-O' Ragnarok owns you all. I'll have to pray GWAR come to London! [EDIT: I just realised how bad the structure of my posts are. Ha!]
Guest Kinetic Posted September 18, 2002 Report Posted September 18, 2002 This Toilet Earth is easily as good as Scumdogs of the Universe. I really liked Carnival of Chaos when I bought it, too. Hell-O is a miserable, underproduced piece of shit. America Must Be Destroyed has, like, three good songs and a bunch of filler crap. Ragnarok is overproduced, believe it or not, and features a lot of regrettable material. The fact that they dubbed in the album versions of these songs onto the "Rendezvous With Ragnarok" VHS was a major contributing factor into why I watched that tape no more than two times. My whole Gwar phase ended sometime in 1998, so I can't comment on the rest of their stuff. So, yeah, I was pretty into Gwar for a few years.
Guest Incandenza Posted September 18, 2002 Report Posted September 18, 2002 Ragnarok was odd in just how polished it sounded. It was almost like GWAR was trying to make a mainstream record. Plus, for all the depravity you come to expect and "love" from GWAR, some of the songs seemed subdued in nature; "None But the Brave" was almost personal. That said, I liked Ragnarok a lot at the time, but my favorite was a tie between America Must Be Destroyed and This Toilet Earth. The last GWAR disc I ever purchased, by the way, was Carnival of Chaos, but that was more for the hell of it than a genuine desire to own it. I didn't like it, but by the time it came out, my musical taste of old had more or less morphed into the kind of things I like today. EDIT: I know there's a lot of love for the Scumdogs of the Universe LP amongst GWAR fans, but even back in GWAR mark days, I never really thought it was all that great. I liked it, but I didn't think it was the best of the bunch like many did.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted September 18, 2002 Report Posted September 18, 2002 Anyone here ever listen to X-Cops? It contains a few GWAR members.
Guest Incandenza Posted September 19, 2002 Report Posted September 19, 2002 I remember being interested in them, but I could never find their CD anywhere.
Guest Kinetic Posted September 19, 2002 Report Posted September 19, 2002 I had You Have The Right to Remain Silent... and was never terribly impressed with it. There are a few good lines here and there--and the cover of "Highway Star" would probably make Metal Ed's heart flutter--but I really didn't consider it to be up to Gwar standards. I think the reason most Gwar fans prefer Scumdogs is due to the fact that it's far and away their most strictly metal album. Plus, it has that game show song on it.
