Experiences with scalpers...

Alright, so I fucked up. Last Saturday at 10am, tickets went on sale for SmackDown! here in Toronto. Unfortunately, I woke up at noon on that day. So I quickly jolted from my room down to the basement and onto the world wide web to look through what was left. Needless to say, all the good seats were gone and the finicky person that I am, decided not to go at all. I've been feeling bad about it for a week, it was a show I was really looking forward to.

Then this morning, I thought about scalpers. Those guys are my last chance, should I try? My bro went to a Chemical Brothers concert one time and he ended up getting really good seats for almost half the original price when he bought them after the show started. Then again, I'm thinking stories about rip-offs and potential arrests are more frequent.

Dude, do not pay a scalper. Go down to the arena at around noon the day of the event and they will have good floor seats available at the box office. They always hold these seats until after everything is set up.

Are you sure? I've been doing some research about scalping and many reports claim that scalpers always lower the value of their tickets near event start time because they want to get rid of them. I guess I would be able to try both routes on the day of the event, but it would be a gamble.

I think they keep some floor seats back until after set up cos until then, thet're not certain exactly how many seats they can fit in.

Your best bet is to try for them seats first, and if no luck, you could try a tout, but that obviously carries risks.

I've only dealt with scalpers once, for a soccer game, and had no trouble, and the tickets were for face value.

BTW....the "go to the box office the day of the event" plan also pertains to concerts. I've gotten floor seats for "sold out" shows for weezer/tenacious d and ratm using the same method.

art- Dude, you gave up too early. I called TicketMaster at noon on Saturday and got kick ass seats for Smackdown ordering over the phone with my Visa. I'm on the side the cameras film, 20 rows up. Section 120, I think. I almost thought it was too good to be true, but I went down to the local Sunrise records and they double checked to confirm my record.

Well when I logged onto the website, all they had were limited view seats behind the stage. Believe me, I stayed at the computer for the next hour hoping for better, but they were all in that area. I said to myself if I couldn't get better seats than I did the last time (section 119 Row 28), then I'm not going at all. And even if I did wake up on time, I have shit luck with ticketmaster. For WMX8, I ordered my tix during the pre-sale and ended up getting seats at the very top of my section, which was right in front of the concessions. I didn't even feel like I was a part of the crowd, not to mention not being able to see the ring or even the Tron. I swear, I could almost touch the second deck when I stood on my seat. I wasn't going to go through that again.
