Guest Redhawk Report post Posted September 16, 2002 Maybe this should go in the video games folder instead, but I read that The Rock was taken off the cover of the latest WWE video game. Supposedly this was meant to either give room for new stars or maybe it's foreshadowing The Rock's quitting. So Triple H takes Rock's spot in the foreground (naturally). Angle, Brock, and I think Booker T are also on the cover. And who's next to HHH? Kevin Nash!
Guest Mulatto Heat Report post Posted September 16, 2002 I thought that was Jericho, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was Nash. I mean, he's done so much this year, how could he not be on the cover?
Guest Redhawk Report post Posted September 16, 2002 Maybe it was Jericho. The picture I saw was pretty small, and the first person I thought of was Nash.
Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted September 16, 2002 maybe Nash's Finisher will be too Trip and fall down
Guest chirs3 Report post Posted September 16, 2002 I thought for sure that was Jericho, and still do, but when I just looked at it again he does look like Nash, a bit.
Guest jester Report post Posted September 16, 2002 They probably just want a mix of upcoming, current, and past stars. WMX8's cover did this perfectly (for the time): Hogan, RVD, Austin.
Guest art_vandelay Report post Posted September 16, 2002 Yes, it's Jericho. Personally, I don't see a big problem with HHH on the cover since he is the biggest mainstream name who's an active wrestler in the company right now, as hard as it is for me to admit that. I'm glad Booker made it though. But since the game's called SmackDown!, I personally feel it would sell tons more copies if Funaki took HHH's place. Then he could do the commercials for the game as well as use his "You can't spell Funaki without F-U-N!" line. Too bad he's not even in the game.

Guest El Psycho Diablo Report post Posted September 16, 2002 Or more likely, it's because Rock isn't on TV for a while. HHH is.

Guest Brian Report post Posted September 16, 2002 I mean, besides Triple H being a vocal point of programming during ratings glory, has the man ever had any mainstream success? He's had a few show appearances but so has Big Show. Booker's done commercials.

Guest DJ Jeff Report post Posted September 16, 2002 Smackdown: HHH Will Hold You Down.... HHH: "I WILL hold you down if you don't win the WWE Title with me." Jericho: "Believe me, he will . " Angle: "Where are your gold medals, Hunter?" Booker T: "I'm the 5-time WCW Champion, now can you dig that.....HUNTER!" Lesnar: "............." HHH: "I'm holding all you down." I just had to do that. Anyways, back on topic, that didn't look like Nash at all. I knew right away it was Jericho.

Guest art_vandelay Report post Posted September 16, 2002 I mean, besides Triple H being a vocal point of programming during ratings glory, has the man ever had any mainstream success? He's had a few show appearances but so has Big Show. Booker's done commercials. By mainstream popularity I mean recognition. What has Angle done? I've never heard of the guy until he debuted with the fed. Winning a gold medal is a huge deal, but how many of them can you honestly remember? Whatever heat Kurt Angle may have received from his 1996 victory was stolen by Carrie Strugg anyway. WARNING: Before I go on, I have to warn people that what you're about to read is a post defending Triple H: As you said, HHH was an integral part of the WWF's resurgance in '98, when people were actually watching. By the time Angle received the spotlight, wrestling had already begun to cool down. Look at it this way, if the government went to every household in America with a questionnaire asking "If you know who this person is, check off the box next to their name." Most people don't know either, but I'm willing to bet that more votes would be given to Triple H. And yes, Booker has done commercials… HUNGRY MAN commercials. How many times do Hungry Man commercials air daily and how much mainstream attention has Booker T really received from it? You can't compare Hungry Man commercials to being the leader of a very popular stable during wrestling's hottest period when discussing celebrity. Triple H was also on MadTV. Guest Brian Report post Posted September 16, 2002 I understand the DX reference but Angle's medal win gives him alot of credibility in the sports world that Triple H just doesn't have. There's a lot of people who recognize Angle since he won the title as a former gol medalist, and especially in the amateur wrestling world (and in a lot of other sports) Angle generally is held very highly now. If you look at the numbers, wrestling was hottest during 2000. More buys, higher ratings, more attendance.

There's a lot of people who recognize Angle since he won the title as a former gol medalist, and especially in the amateur wrestling world (and in a lot of other sports) Angle generally is held very highly now. Who's talking about credibility in the sports world? I'm talking about celebrity. Regardless of how popular or how highly regarded Kurt Angle is in sports, those same people aren't the ones who are buying video games. There's no question in my mind more people in America have heard of Triple H than Kurt Angle. If you look at the numbers, wrestling was hottest during 2000. More buys, higher ratings, more attendance. Which is when Triple H was the top heel in the company. Add in the fact that Angle's bald now, and he's almost completely unrecognizable to former wrestling fans. For all they know, Angle could be mistaken as Austin without a goatee.
