Guest C.H.U.D. Report post Posted September 17, 2002 "3 O'clock High"...shut up! Holy shit, that movie rocks. As for my pick, I'll go with Blade Runner. It's a great example of technical perfection and it looks better using miniatures and blue screen than any sci-fi films made with CGI these days.

Guest gthureson Report post Posted September 19, 2002 The Life of Brian: Holds together as a movie better than Holy Grail. HG is, to use a wrestling term, a spotfest. Life of Brian is a movie with a complete story. "He's not the Messiah! He is just a very naughty boy!" Green Mile or Shawshank: Both are very, very good movies. Neither have some world-shattering message, and both were criticized with being too long. Watch either, and tell me that you could tell they were over 90 minutes long without looking at a clock. Simply very good story-telling. Road Warrior: Now this is an action movie. Doesn't insult your intelligence by giving some lass excuse for a post-apocalyptic world, it *just* is. Great characters, great sequences, and the best screw-job in movies ever. Cool Hand Luke: Oozes atmosphere, and great performances. Taxi Driver: What you get out of it depends on who you are. Some like drawing conclusions to alienation of Viet Nam vets. Others to decay of society. I think it just shows how fine the line between heroes and psychopaths truly is. Its all a matter of timing. Das Boot: There are three versions of this. The theatrical release, the 'Director's Cut' and the original mini-series. They range from long, even longer to really blood long. All are very good though. Not your average war film, to say the least. And I won't ruin the ending, but after everything to movie puts you through, their is honestly no other way I could see ending it. Its appropriate. Dr. Strangelove: While a bit of a spotfest, it has, over time, defined 'black comedy' and is one of the best satires I've ever seen. Citizen Kane: Probably the most influential movie ever made. See it at least once, just to see what everybody has ripped off from it. Overrated: Apocalypse Now: Its Heart of Darkness, people. Messages are fine, but you don't need to use a sledgehammer to get it through. The making of the movie is a far more interesting tale than the movie itself. Blade Runner: Visually appealing, but notice how no one ever raves about how the story kicks ass. You need both for a great movie. Beautiful movie with an average story. Saving Private Ryan: Very little character development. I can only remember the personalities of maybe three people in it. If cut off the landing at Normandy and the battle at the end, you have a pretty run of the mill war movie. Again, effects don't make a great movie. This is an average movie with a couple of excellent sequences.

Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted September 20, 2002 Office Space is hilarious. Some other essentials I thought of: The Stoned Age-I swear, this movie is about my hometown. "We got the Schnappster, half a joint of rag weed, all we need's some chicks." UHF-The best worst movie ever.
