Austin & Goldberg starting their own Fed?

Recommended Posts

Guest FeArHaVoC

The likelihood of Steve Austin returning to WWE anytime soon seems to be very small. Even though Jim Ross did leave the possibility open in a recent Ross Report, sources close to Austin feel the burial on TV was too much.

Interesting, Austin is good friends with Bill Goldberg, and there are rumors that the two might be creating their own new promotion. They were often heard talking about promoting a head to head match against one another, outside of WWE or WCW.

Insiders believe that a combination of Austin and Goldberg could be enough of a one-two punch to garner interest from TV networks for a potential broadcast deal.

Austin has reportedly been working with a legal team to check out his WWE contract, and how he could work on a new promotion. Many feel WWE contracts are legally flawed, and someone of the power and money of Austin could challenge the no-compete clause.

Vince would fight Austin the the last breath to keep him from starting up his own fed until his contract expires.

Austin and Goldberg.

I'll tune in!

But like Marvin said, Vince will try his hardest not to make Austin make any type of money or better yet, any type of competition against him; while under contract.

Vince would never allow Austin-Goldberg. With the right amount of hype, that's about the only matchup that could give some viable competition to WWE.

Maybe. Goldberg's been out of the game for awhile...Is he still even in REAL mainstream? I know Austin will always be there like Hogan and Andre....But do America remember Goldberg fondly as Austin...

Besides...Why would anyone approve of Goldberg owning a Organization...He'll make everyone wear Pet Costumes and roll around.

By the time Austin gets out of his contract (either fighting it or waiting it out), he'll be too old to compete to his standards.

Or he'll have found a new Lady Blossom clone to occupy his time...

Interesting, Austin is good friends with Bill Goldberg

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Backdafuckup.

When & how did this happen? Goldberg, who by most accounts, has no respect for the business & is more concerned w/ the money, friends with Austin, who loves the sport & has been in it for most of his life?

Did I not get some kind of Smark Memo or something?

Assuming this is true, and assuming that Austin could get out of his contract (which Vince will fight with viciousness that will make the steroid trial and MOnday Night Wars look like a mild spat), this could actually be a worry for WWE. The two promotion's top stars, and the even have the perfect storyline to base their entire promotion around.

Now who knows if they have the brains to manage it successfully. That's another matter. But with the right minds behind it, WWE would have a serious competitor again. Lotta ifs here though.

It would do them a world of good.

I don't think they will succeed, and for that reason alone I hope they don't start their own promotion. Every promotion that tries and fails makes it harder for the next one that comes along. Where would they get money from? What talent would they have? If they did a one shot deal, I could live with that, but there is never such a thing as a one shot deal in wrestling. If something works once, it is wrung dry until nothing else can be gotten out of it.

I think if they promoted it like a one shot thing, with some top-level indy workers or whoever to work an undercard, it would sell very well.

Think of it like a boxing PPV. You don't watch a monthly WBC or IBF PPV or anything like that. A PPV is done once in a while and is sold around the main event, with a few undercard matches to round out the card. You'll hear people say "I'm ordering the Tyson fight tonight.", not "I'm going to order the Showtime boxing PPV tonight because Tyson is in the main event."

A much-hyped match would have people saying "I'm ordering the Austin-Goldberg PPV tonight." I can't really see a long-term value in a new promotion centered around these guys. Once they got done fighting each other, the rest of the show would most likely leave a lot to be desired. Nobody would care about a shitty undercard on a one-time only PPV event.

Considering Jarrett's paying mostly out of his pocket, I'm sure Austin AND Goldberg could do the same.

Goldberg could get Stiener and a bunch of WCW upper-midcarders while Austin can lure some top indy talent from the Southwest. (American Dragon anyone?)

It's got a shot.

Get Kea from AJPW. he'd jump for less money if it meant not getting jobbed to shit.

I think a lot of talent would come from NWA: TNA to Goldberg/Austin's promotion because they have a huge chance. Austin/Goldberg WILL sell and it will eat Vince alive if it's not in a WWE ring.

You'll actually believe this? IMO, why would any wrestler of the status of Goldberg & Austin start their own promotion? Why waste time and effort, when you can get paid guaranteed $$$$ from Vince.

If Austin and Goldberg did in fact start up their own wresting fed, then the WWE would have some real competition, depending on which superstars were on the roster. Plus, would Austin and Goldberg actually wrestle? If they do, then I could see potential in this fed. Also, what would it be called?

Austin/Goldberg is money. It IS a match that is five years in the making.

They could put on one PPV, from..hey, where do you think Austin would be most popular?

Hell, I bet they could sell out the Cotton Bowl here in Dallas if they had the right press. Pay for a couple of spots during football, and you could get a good buyrate, hell, even make a very good profit.

Now the question is, will Austin get out of his contract? No chance in hell, I say. McMahon wouldn't let a WM ME slip away, would he?

No chance, Vince lwill ever let that happen, unless it's a WWE ring, making him $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

If Austin really wanted to come back to the WWE, this could be a way to show Vince that he wants to come back. Threaten to start up another wrestling fed if Vince doesn't let him return to the WWE, and if Vince doesn't believe him, then Austin could start up his new fed. This all rests on if Vince and company want Austin back or not.

I'm sure WWE contracts are iron clad. Vince owns everything; name, image, and likeness. Look at The Rock, he's making at least $10 miillion a movie, but Vince is getting a piece. Also, Austin still can make Vince alot of $$$$, so Vince will never let him go.

One question....

If Austin left the WWE, then why is he still under contract? That I don't quite understand.

Austin walk out, but he has a guaranteed contract, that runs for the next couple of years. Austin is violating the terms of the contract, because they paying him for services that he is not providing. You can't walk out on a contract.

But Vince could have breached his contract by suspending his pay? Who knows. I'm sure if they tried hard, they could find a way. Vince doesn't really bank on these guys leaving.

Austin owns a lot of his own catchphrases and stuff. I'm very sure of that.

That was terrible.

Anyways, outside of the inevitable match between the two (which will make money), I don't see them really doing anything and lasting. A one shot deal sounds good.

But using that as a starting point and building around it and to it, you could launch a number of careers.

A Single Match doesn't Make a Promotion. After a while it would get stale, Depending on who is Nuts enough to even join their Laughable Promotions, it wouldn't matter. There would be zero Creditablity in this "Fed" you are Salivating over. One guy is Hardly a Wrestler, the other Is about as Trustworthy to any wrestling organization as it stands now than Phil Mushnick is a Fan of the WWE.

And what would it be called. How about the Bald headed Moron Championship Wrestling BHMCW Nah to many letters.
