Guest nikowwf Report post Posted September 18, 2002 So basically it looks like they are sending Angle vs. Benoit out there this sunday with both of them as strong heels. Should help to deaden the crowd during what should be the best match of the show. Angle is a god, but even he is going to have trouble overcoming all the bullsh*t present in his booking. The only booking so far for this match has been angle making fun of benoit, a stinkface on benoit cause by angle, and two weak brawls. (Unless they have this huge intense brawl, which doesnt seem likely from the spoilers.) This match should have had a huge dedicated build-up. Instead, its an also ran on a show that doesnt have a huge marquee match up. Niko
Guest Rob Edwards Report post Posted September 18, 2002 Yeah but what HAVE they built up for this show? HHH & HLA. Ah well at least we'll appreciate the match even if marks are taking piss breaks. Bless their ignorance
Guest Dr. Wrestlingphysics Report post Posted September 18, 2002 The plan might be (if WWE ever has plans anymore) to let the crowd decide who they want to cheer, and push him as face and the other as heel for the rest of their feud.
Guest Lord of The Curry Report post Posted September 18, 2002 Eh, I don't know if I'd agree with both of them being heels. I'd say Benoit gets the face title by default, as Angle has been stronger as a heel lately and Benoit hasn't really been doing anything heel-ish. Having said that, the WWE needs to realize that the majority of fans are fuckin stupid. They won't know who to cheer for. I'm hoping and praying that the crowd at Unforgiven can decide who the face is, and decide quick or else the heat will be s-h-i-t.
Guest Brian Report post Posted September 18, 2002 I think they'll just let Benoit play face in the ring and Angle play heel since it works to Angle's strength, and Benoit can go either way. They'll sacrifice Benoit ion the short-term for Lesnar and turn Angle later to beat Lesnar at Mania.
Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted September 18, 2002 I can't see the crowd getting behind Angle. I mean they like him, but he is too fun to boo. Benoit should be the face as he plays it better than Angle (from what we have seen). Either way the match should be decent-very good, as their Mania match last year (Angle says its his best) was good, and Kurt has improved since then.
Guest cabbageboy Report post Posted September 18, 2002 Well, if you recall their WM 17 match had no build to it either, they just got in each other's faces a week before the show and BAM. Insta feud! Then they feuded over Angle's medals being in Benoit's trunks (ugh). I never liked that feud or any of the matches in it all that much. It made no sense because Benoit stole the medals and put them by his dick, yet he was the FACE and Angle was the HEEL? WTF? The WM match was pretty good though far from either man's best work, and the subsequent matches (Iron Man, ladder) didn't exactly set new standards of excellence. It's kinda odd that a feud involving an iron man match, a cage match, and a ladder match would be so forgettable, but it was. I didn't care that Angle won his medals back 24 hours after it happened. These guys are being fed to the wolves on Sunday...the match has no proper build at all and both are now heels. Has potential to be a big misfire on that front. Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted September 18, 2002 Yeah, the fued was dissapointing at times, but it was also pretty entertaining. The 2/3 falls (Regular, Submission & Ladder) match was quite good as was the WM match. The Ultimate Submission was rather dull, and I seem to recall (haven't seen it in a while) Angle was blown-up big time at the beginning. I just hope for their sake that the match is really good, because it could be, easily.
Guest Brian Report post Posted September 18, 2002 He was blown up in all the matches. I remember at WrestleMania specifically. But he was looking lost too, and bailed a bunch of times in one of the matches. The first match was very good, the rest were all disappointing and forgettable. I remember the ladder part of the three falls where they did nothing except hash out old spots, and that whole match seemed paint-by-numbers IMO.
Guest cabbageboy Report post Posted September 18, 2002 I guess it is due to the fact that both guys did better work the same year, and right afterwards at that. Benoit moved right in against Austin and did awesome stuff before getting hurt. Angle went on to have a shockingly great match with Shane and then his work with Austin. Before that Angle was world champ as well. It just seemed like a placeholder feud until they figured out what to do with those guys.

Yeah, I forgot about that, during parts of the Mania match Angle was blown-up badly, but he pulled it together pretty well, IMO. The fued was disapointing, no doubt, but Angle has got better since then and doesn't need carrying as much.

As long as Angle doesn't stall like Larry Zybysko again from the Backlash match, this will be pretty damn good.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted September 18, 2002 . They'll sacrifice Benoit ion the short-term for Lesnar Fuck no. Absolutely not.
Guest Brian Report post Posted September 18, 2002 I'm not saying I want that to happen, but don't say I didn't warn you.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted September 18, 2002 Benoit is much better than Angle, and even Angle is eons better that The Useless/Heatless Wonder (Potential my ass). I don't see the poine of sacrificing Benoit to a guy he is soooooooooooooo much better than so said guy can job to a guy Benoit is STILL better than in the wrestling dept (Angle bascially outshines benoit everywhere else, though). That's just wasting Benoit.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted September 18, 2002 And back on the original topic, this feud is obviously designed to screw Angle and Benoit.
Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted September 18, 2002 I don't think that is what it is purposely designed to do that (Although it'll probably do a good job of it), It's just that the WWE has no idea what to do with these guys.

Lets see. One of them is the best wrestler in the company, and the other is the biggest heel. Is it that hard to figure out what to do with them? Unless the writing team suddenlt turned into a group of toddlers who have never seen the show and are doing this accidentally, this feud is meant to kill Angle, Benoit, or both's heat. Why are they fighting again? Because Benoit laughed at Angle and Angle laughed at Benoit in REVENGE~!, baybee? OOOH, smell the Drama! Meanwhile, Brock and Undertaker main eevnt a PPV. Life isn't fair.
Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted September 18, 2002 You mean that the WWE is trying to kill off their biggest heel? Heyman probably just wants more Angle/Benoit matches (as he is supposed to be a mark for both).
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted September 18, 2002 I think that the WWE will be really stupid and put this match on right after the 8 man Un-American tag match. That way...they'll cheer USA in this match when they realize that Benoit is an evil canadian too.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted September 18, 2002 You mean that the WWE is trying to kill off their biggest heel? Absoultely. Angle made himself the biggest heel, and Vince is furious. He wants Brock to be the biggest heel. Same situation with biggest face RVD and Vince's choice, Edge. Because Vince knows what we want.
Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted September 18, 2002 Maybe thats what the WWE wants...who knows...who cares?

Guest Anglesault Report post Posted September 18, 2002 Heyman probably just wants more Angle/Benoit matches (as he is supposed to be a mark for both). Easy solution. Have either Angle or Benoit flatten Brock for the title at No Mercy, sending Brock on a six month vacation or so, and have Angle Benoit feud over the world title in a top level feud. Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted September 18, 2002 Sure, us smarks would love that, but the WWE is a buisiness, and I doubt that would draw very well (not that Brock/Taker will).
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted September 18, 2002 Brock isn't over, and Taker hasn't drawn in HOW long?
Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted September 18, 2002 Taker has never drawn. I think Brock is over, but he is on SmackDown so maybe the heat in his matches gets a little "help".
Guest TheyCallMeMark Report post Posted September 18, 2002 Greh if WWE was really smart they'd push a Angle/RVD feud for the title. They're the most over things in the company. I'd personally like to see Benoit/Eddy but hey I guess I can deal with Angle/Benoit...
