Oops, I meant "Augusta" -- sue me.

Now I don't give a crap about golf, but I'm confused. Isn't there an LPGA for women and a PGA for men? Perhaps someone more familar with the sport of golf can fill me in on the details.

Apparantly this chick won some tournament that gives her the chance to play in an upcoming PGA event. That's all fine and great, but this paragraph got under my skin:

"As one of two women in the 90-player, three-round sectional event Tuesday, Whaley played from a set of tees 10 percent closer to the holes than those played by male competitors, making the course 6,239 total yards in length, compared with 6,938. If she chooses to compete in next summer's PGA event, she would receive no such advantage."

Why in the hell was she, and the other chick, teeing off closer to the holes? I know we dilute our requirments for military and other physcially challenging occupations, but if I was the guy (assuming it was a guy that placed second) who didn't get the PGA bid because of this I'd be pissed.

I say it's time for men to try to qualify for LPGA play. There are far too many women in that Good-ol'-Girls organization, and it's high time for some diversity...

i bet they didn't think that a woman would have won the tournament, so who's fault is it really?

I agree. The organizers obviously didn't think that a woman could win, and if she plays with the men at the PGA event, then all power to her.

I have nothing to contribute other than saying that Starvenger's sig absolutely killed me just now.

I don;t understand this shit. WHy would a woman want to play against the men from the Men's tees? She won't win, if for no other reason than a man named Tiger.

Can't men have their own activities anymore? Women have their private clubs but if men try it then it's sexist. *cough*thisishypocriticalbullshit*cough*

I guess what got under my skin was the fact she teed off a shorter distance than the male competitors.

Going by this logic, if a woman ever wanted to play quarterback in the NFL, the opposing defense would have to go "one mississippi, two mississippi..." before blitzing...

This woman, Suzy whatever is a club pro. She's played in the Club Pro Championship for a few years, where the basic goal is the be in the top 25 to qualify for the PGA Championship.

Anyways, she won some tournament that automatically qualifies you for the Greater Hartford Open next year.

Like it was said before, the problem is, for this tournament, she played on upper tees where the males played on the regular tees. That's a tainted victory, and its bullshit that they allow that in the first place. She's been competitive (against Club Pros, these guys are nowhere near PGA Tour calibur, remember that) on the regular tees, so I don't understand it.

See, this is the kind of thing that should bother me. But for some reason, it doesn't. I mean, sh'es a club pro from Connecticut winning a Club Pro Tournament in Connecticut. She should certainly be allowed to play. And if they gave her the shorter tees, so what? I'm sure she wasn't invited to the regional tournament because they wanted her to lose. Besides, you still gotta put the ball on the fairway, hit your greens in regulation, and sink your putts. It's not her fault she doesn't have the natural ability to hit a ball like Tiger, and since she wasn't "playing with the big boys", I don't see what the big deal is about letting her get to the greens in two just like everybody else.

Personally, I say "good for her", I hope she plays, and I hope she breaks 80. If she breaks 80 next year, that'll be a hell of a feat for a person that only drives a ball 225-230 yards.
