Guest AlwaysPissedOff Report post Posted September 19, 2002 Well, there are numerous Green Lanterns of various intergalactic races and oddly enough two humans were chosen(or three if you count Guy Gardner). I forgot when John Stewart got his ring and when he lost it(I'm pretty sure it was because he abused the power), but he was one. I think the timeframe was late 80's to early 90's if you're looking for Stewart's time as a GL(hopefully, someone will correct my stupid ass since I don't remember a shitload of this stuff). Guest Sassquatch Report post Posted September 20, 2002 Here's the short form: - John Stewart his first appearance as a GL in Green Lantern #87 (2nd series). - Stewart was actually created because DC was coming under fire for kissing white America's ass while disrespecting the minority groups so Denny O'Neil came up with Stewart. - Stewart was the "loose cannon" GL for many years and had several confrontations with Hal Jordan over issues of how to deal with GL matters and whether or not the bad guys should live. - Stewart's former wife Katma Tui was hacked to pieces by Star Sapphire and the planet that Stewart was supposed to be watching was blown up and Stewart snapped. - Stewart has stepped in as GL in the past for Jordan and occasionally helps out Kyle Rayner too. That just about covers it. The link is very well written and very informed.

Guest Big McLargeHuge Report post Posted September 20, 2002 Speaking of GL, I've been out of the loop for the past, oh, 4 years. If it's not too much trouble, can anyone give me a run down of what's been going down?
Guest Sassquatch Report post Posted September 22, 2002 Here we go: - Current GL Kyle Rayner is set to marry his girlfriend (and total babe) Jade. - Kyle is a cartoonist and has an assisstant named Terry who came out last year about being gay. - The next big story is Terry getting the shit kicked out of him outside of a club by some homo haters after they see him kissing another man. - The new Brainwave (son of Sr.) handed GL his ass along with Alan Scott (the 1st GL). - Hal Jordan came back as the new Spectre. That's about all you really need to know. Hope this helped.
Guest Some Guy Report post Posted September 22, 2002 I thought Hal Jordan died in Zero Hour. Keep in mind I haven't read comics since then, so I have virtually no clue what's happen since 94 or 95.
Guest Vyce Report post Posted September 23, 2002 Hal DID die. They just brought him back, this time as the Spectre. C'mon, it's comics. No one EVER really dies.

Don't worry, Hal's still dead. But he's now the new Spectre because... um, well, because the Hal Jordan lovers wanted him back, I guess...

Keep in mind I haven't read comics since then, so I have virtually no clue what's happen since 94 or 95. Hal didn't die in Zero Hour. I can't remember the logistics of it, but he keeped on till Final Night, where he eventually sacrificed himself to the Sun-eater to re-ignite the sun. Then I believe he became Spectre to pay for playing god in the Zero Hour or something, I'm not sure about that tho.
Guest Sassquatch Report post Posted September 24, 2002 The time travelling Hal arc ran from Green Lantern#100-107, which happened before Hal, was brought back as the Spectre. The Green Lantern 100th issue Hal return was a sales thing because DC wanted to do a big event to boost sales (which it did by an 87% sales increase) for the title for it's 100th issue. They also wanted to get the fanatical pro-Hal group H.E.A.T. off their backs and call a true with both parties. Kyle goes back in time and meets Hal Jordan right around the time that Hal started out as a super hero. Hal accidentally ends up going into the present with Kyle when Kyle returns to the present. Wackiness ensues as Kyle attempts to keep Hal from learning his ultimate fate, which is becoming the mass murderer Parallax. Kyle and Hal both guest star in Captain Marvel and help him beat Mr. Mind. Eventually Hal finds out about his fate and is confronted by another future self, Parallax. Future Hal (Parallax) shows up to send Past Hal (rookie GL Hal) back and erase his memories so he doesn't fuck up the timestream. They brawl and Past Hal decides to let Future Hal have his way with him. He's sent back into the past with no memories of his trip to the future or what will happen to him after the Reign of Superman storyline. Parallax Hal and Kyle have a confrontation. They have the confrontation and now Parallax Hal is face to face with Rayner. Parallax Hal blows Kyle verbally and tells him how proud he is of Kyle and how he has become a fine Green Lantern. Future Parallax Hal leaves after the debacle. Future Parallax Hal goes back in time but he leaves Kyle with the knowledge that he can rebuild what he tore down if he truly wanted to. Kyle ponders that and concentrates his will and suddenly finds himself creating a second power ring. Kyle does not know what to do with the ring and decides to give the second ring to Jade the golden age Green Lantern (now known as Sentinel)'s kid. Kyle is currently going out with Jade in the comic book series. Kyle then leaves to go explore outer space to find other beings to be Green Lantern’s and leaving the second ring in Jade's hands for several issues. Jade has a few adventures before going back into semi-retirement as Kyle's girlfriend and Kyle abandons his plan to restore the GL Corp after he comes back from space. Two years have now passed. In the DC crossover Day of Judgement, Asmodel and Neron hijacked the Spectre force when the original host Jim Corrigan died and gave it up. The heroes needed a dead guy to merge with the Spectre force once they purged Asmodel from it. Jim Corrigan, the previous host wanted to stay in Heaven so Wonder Woman, Sentinel, Zauriel, Mr.Miracle, and Supergirl pick Hal when they find him in Purgatory and take his soul to Earth to become the Spectre. Hal died while saving the earth from the Sun Eater in the DC crossover Final Twilight and was sent to Purgatory instead of Hell. The heroes found Hal in Hell after fighting Neron and Asmodel who had lured the Spectre into Hell and Asmodel merged with the Spectre entity by force. Hal merges with Spectre force after the heroes purge Asmodel from it and Hal is picked by Spectre to stay with him as its host. Hal then casts a spell on everyone to make them think that the Spectre rejected him and is running around with no human soul inside of it. The only one that knows who the Spectre really is, is the Green Arrow who had a heart-to-heart talk with Hal when Ollie returned from his exile. Hope this helped. Guest Some Guy Report post Posted September 24, 2002 Thanks it did, I think. What happened to Guy Gardner? I saw the name in this thread. I used to collect his book and then quick comics right after Zero Hour and he got some wierd powers where he could grow guns on his arms or something. So what happened to him? Guest Sassquatch Report post Posted October 5, 2002 Guy Gardner was killed in DC 2001 summer crossover "Our Worlds At War" and he will most likely not be coming back from the dead anytime soon. But again, never say never in comic books.

Guest What? Report post Posted October 6, 2002 Will someone please tell me I'm not the only Kyle Rayner mark? Also, the storyline involving Nero, IMO, is a must read. Anyone agree?
Guest Big McLargeHuge Report post Posted October 6, 2002 I like Kyle as well. Most of the animosity goes towards HOW Jordan was phased out. Or the fact that he was phased out at all.
Guest HellSpawn Report post Posted October 6, 2002 I do like Kyle, Im just not a ga-ga fan of Green Lantern, I buy an issue here and an issue there. I like him on JLA. Btw, someone said "his babe Jade", mmmmmmm... who is hotter... Donna Troy (ex-darkstar and former GF of Kyle) or Jade ?

Guest Sassquatch Report post Posted October 15, 2002 After going back and looking through my recent issues of Superman, I found out that Guy Gardner is in fact still alive after OWAW. Guy was possessed by a demon and Superman fights Guy and frees him from his demonic possession. Guy Gardner fans rejoice!

Guest Sassquatch Report post Posted October 18, 2002 Don't mind starvenger Hellspawn. You are one of the more interesting posters when it comes to discussion. It's also nice to see some new blood post in here besides the old guard (myself, 212, starvenger, and gthureson). I was thinking of replying to the question that you asked. But then I reminded myself why I hate the women that Rayner has been with due to the castration of their characters in regards to making the fans actually care about them. But there is something intriguing about a chick whose skin color is Jade...

Hey, when they gave Silver Sable that jacket and a better hairdo at the start of her own series, I found myself wishing I was a member of the Wild Pack. I'd talk more about Silver Sable, but I'd eventually have to get into the pregnancy angle that made me ask, "What have you done to my mercenary chick?" Guest areacode212 Report post Posted October 18, 2002 Neither Jade nor Donna Troy have especially done it for me, but Jade is supposed to be quite the babe in the eyes of DCU males. There was an issue of Starman where Jack gets all weak-kneed over the prospect of meeting her.
Guest Sassquatch Report post Posted October 18, 2002 Rumor had it that Marvel was going to make Dr.Doom the father of Sable's kid but then it was going to be revealed to be someone else. My bet would have been Paladin who was had a lot to offer but was rarely able to show that potential. Be lucky gthureson. I remember reading a Wizard Casting Call from a couple of years ago for a Green Lantern movie. They picked Neve Campbell to play Jade. I was never a huge fan of Neve's but I could see where they came up with Neve to play Jade.
Guest gthureson Report post Posted October 18, 2002 Thank god they didn't follow through with that. I loved and hated the Silver Sable book because they had two types of stories: 1) Mercenary group doing mercenary things. Sometimes Silver on her own. Good, fun stories. Nothing that will win awards, but decent artwork and fun all around. 2) Topical stories. Which is fine if they are done well, unfortunately, they were a hack job. Just because the lead character is female, doesn't mean it needs soap opera elements. Luckily, the good outnumbered the bad overall. Silver Sable (and/or Black Widow, another favorite of mine) is somebody who could be well-served by a MAXX or Ultimates book, where you could tell stories about a mercenary that had a more mercenary feel. But knowing Marvel, it would just be an excuse to have nudity. So nix that idea.
Guest Sassquatch Report post Posted October 18, 2002 Sable is one of those characters that needs a special (see: good) writer to take on the task of writing her book. I wouldn't wish for Sable to be in a MAXX book if I was you gthureson. Most likely she'd either have a book that would be devoted to showing her in S&M gear. Or else they would have half an issue devoted to Sable giving/receiving a blowjob while working on a "covert" mission. It wouldn't have a thing to do with the actual story but it sure would pop some sales at the time. I give the line another 3 months before it is cancelled for "books being too late" which can be translated to lazy/incompetent writers. Sable really is one of the most wasted characters in the MU and hopefully Quesada and Jemas will dump the oh so boring Elektra in place of Sable who has much more to offer as a character with some dimension to them. Guest gthureson Report post Posted October 18, 2002 Yeah, I know. I saw the new Black Widow series, picked it up off the shelf, flipped through it, got to the point where it was, "Infiltrate a S&M Club", put if back on the shelf, and never considered buying it again. But then again, I usually avoid the Marvel 'For Mature Readers' lines, because they seem to think it means sex and graphic violence just for the sake of sex and graphic violence. Whereas I pick up a DC 'For Mature Readers' book, and there might be sex and/or graphic violence in it, but it takes place within a well-written story. Guest HellSpawn Report post Posted October 18, 2002 Thanx Sass. Oh, and About Sable... Im also a fan of her, like gthureson said, good art and stories entertainig, not prize-award, but at least it wasnt "Days of future sentinels of Apocalypse on zero hour and hypertime" kind of story. I hope Kevin Smith gave her a come back on the new Spidey title. A MAX serie could be good too, but, I dont im ready for...
