Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted September 19, 2002 Report Posted September 19, 2002 A list of items on the menu: Grilled Sourdough Burger - Interesting, but a ripoff.. Soft Drink, French Fries and Onion Rings - I wonder what size they are.. Flame Broiled Chili - Flame Broiled cause they use their leftover hamburgers like Wendy's does..bah.. Bacon Cheeseburger - I like bacon cheeseburgers so no problem here. 2 Crispy Tacos - Why the heck does Burger King have 2 tacos (they're crispy!) on their 99 cent menu and has anyone had them yet? Also, I normally get soft shell tacos at TB..so I feel alienated.. Vanila/Strawberry/Chocolate Ice Cream Shakes - interesting that they are called Ice Cream Shakes..that might mean that they are good.. Baked Potato - Because when I think fast food, I think baked potato...sure.. Side Garden Salad - Earth to BK, you missed the boat on the Salad Craze.. 5 piece Chicken Tenders - Ehh. Chicken nuggets...at the grocery store you can get 30 for $2, but its still chicken nuggets.. So overall, they ripoff Wendy's the most (Baked Potato, Chili, Salad, 5 Piece Nuggets) as well as Hardee's/Carl's Jr (Sourdough Burger) and Taco Bell (Tacos). The Sourdough Burger, Chili and Baked potato are the only new items, and I like Hardee's sourdough burger so I'll probably go with that. But as much promotion as this is getting, and as much time as they supposedly put into this (1 Year), I'm wondering why their marketing people haven't been fired yet. It took them a year to come up with this? Here Also, you can check out the nutrition values of all the items...
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Posted September 19, 2002 Report Posted September 19, 2002 "Also, you can check out the nutrition values of all the items..." Hahahahaha -- anyone concerned with nutrition value ought not to pull up to Burger King, but I digress... I've seen those commercials, and I wasn't sure what all was on the menu. When I heard about the "crispy" tacos, I couldn't help but laugh. Seeing how they'd probably use ground "meat" for that and nothing else, except for the chilli, I'm curious to know how long they let the meat sit out for. When I worked at Taco bell, the ground meat went by fast, but that's because a good number of menu items needed that. BK on the other hand... Finally ICE CREAM shakes, no longer shakes... The fast-food salad is the biggest scam going. Oh sure the salad's "good" for you, but the dressing has like 30 grams of fat in it. You'd be better off eating a burger... Baked potato? Chilli? Stop riding Dave Thomas' jock BK, he's dead for God's sake! Why don't they advertise the whopper jrs as 99 cents, which last time I checked, they were? I think that's the best deal out of anything there, imo. Thanks for the menu list -- I'm assuming the grilled sourdough burger is just a mini-me replica of that big one they pimped with Shaq for the longest time...
Guest Leena Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 It's a good thing I've always found fast food disgusting. Bacon Cheeseburger- 9g of Sat Fat. Damn.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 "It's a good thing I've always found fast food disgusting. Bacon Cheeseburger- 9g of Sat Fat. Damn." What are you talking about? It's only 11 cents per gram -- you gotta know a deal when you see one...
Guest The Superstar Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 you know, i had the tacos and they're not that bad. but that's just my opinion
Guest El Satanico Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 Well i don't really see the point in complaining that a fast food place is ripping of another place. I mean come on It's just fast food it's not like it matters who sales what. Besides baked potatoes, chile, nuggets and tacos aren't some unique foods that never existed before Wendys and Taco Bell sold them. Sourdough burger, bacon cheese burger chicken tenders and Shakes are the only things i'm interested in off the menu. The chicken tenders actually taste like a chicken product so they are like Wendys nuggets not McDonalds nasty ass nuggets.
Guest AlwaysPissedOff Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 They should bring back the cheesesticks, dammit!
Guest MrRant Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 The tacos are ripping off Jack since they have had them for awhile. Pretty good though.
Guest Flyboy Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 They should bring back the cheesesticks, dammit! Nah.. cheesesticks are gross..
Guest razazteca Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 well I still will not go to Burger King because the service here is just the worst in town, besides I live closer to Wendys and it has the quickest drive thu window in town, only McDonalds beats Wendys in drive thru service. Cheese Sticks rule, Long John Silver has them over here.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 I, for one, am not complaining about BK "stealing" other store's menu items -- I think it's funny. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 My point was that it took them 1 year to develop this menu and there is nothing on it that is dramatically new or different from any other fast food place's 99 cent menus. I remember when you could get popcorn at BK, and although it was always horrible, that was unique. And with the salad, it has 25 calories and no fat, and they do offer a lite italian dressing, as most places do. And some people eat salad without dressing.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 They still have cheesesticks at the BK here.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 "My point was that it took them 1 year to develop this menu and there is nothing on it that is dramatically new or different from any other fast food place's 99 cent menus. I remember when you could get popcorn at BK, and although it was always horrible, that was unique." Remember when they tried to serve those "gourmet" value meals years back? I can't remember the dishes, but popcorn shrimp was one of them for sure. THAT was unique. I don't remember the popcorn, but knowing BK I believe it happened... "And with the salad, it has 25 calories and no fat, and they do offer a lite italian dressing, as most places do. And some people eat salad without dressing." I know they have lite dressing, you know they have lite dressing, but I'm sure there are a BUNCH of people out there who don't realize the dressing is worse than some burgers...
Guest Incandenza Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 I had the BK Sourdough burger for lunch. It was okay, but Hardees' is better (if far more unhealthy).
Guest redbaron51 Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 i can't judge burger king since i've never been to one
Guest DrainYou42 Posted September 21, 2002 Report Posted September 21, 2002 Finally ICE CREAM shakes, no longer shakes... Yeah, it's been done before, it's called a Frosty. . .
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted September 21, 2002 Report Posted September 21, 2002 2 Crispy Tacos The Tacos are quite horrible. Sliced sandwich cheese, tons of horrid (certainly not mild either..)taco sauce, and no hardly any meat or lettuce. The taco sauce effectively negates the crispy aspect as well. The one thing good about them is they brought back the old Taco Bell taco wrapper thats closed on one end so you can eat it in the wrapper and hold it vertical and not get taco stuff all over you, not that you would want to eat their taco in it though. Other than that, the only redeeming value of this is to the companies that make antacid, since I got a good case of heartburn (and I can normally hold hot sauce as well, but this was way past hot, I guess I should have said no hot sauce..) Rates - 2 out of 5, woulda been a 1 without the wrapper. Grilled Sourdough Burger Now this isn't half bad. I love Hardee's Sourdough burger, but Im sold on the flame broiled tastes better theory here. There really just 2 complaints, one might just be me being picky . First of all, the bread wasnt even as much as grilled, toasted or anything. It was still soft. Now, some people can't stand sourdough bread like that, but not me, so it wasnt a bother. Also, the burger itself is just a bit bigger than a standard burger you'd get on a McDonalds regular hamburger. Now, this really isnt a big deal because the sourdough bread/bun is smaller as well, so it evens out. I guess its a case of you get what you pay for. Other than that, there was just enough vegetables (lettuce tomato pickle) that they didnt take over, like some other places do. Rates - 3.5/5 - a really good value menu sandwich. Now they should make a sourdough whopper.
Guest myburninghammer Posted September 21, 2002 Report Posted September 21, 2002 KKK, my memory is way vague about it, but I definitely remember the gourmet concept...they were doing table service, right? If anyone remembers, fill me in; I just remember the popcorn bit.
Guest AlwaysPissedOff Posted September 21, 2002 Report Posted September 21, 2002 They should bring back the cheesesticks, dammit! Nah.. cheesesticks are gross.. BLASPHEMY~! On the gourmet stuff, didn't BK used to have pizza or was that Hardee's? I distinctly remember one of them having pizza(kinda like a calzone, but I forgot the name of it) because I used to get it all the time before they stopped serving it. And no, I don't mean Heart Attack Central, a.k.a. Pizza Hut.
Guest MrRant Posted September 21, 2002 Report Posted September 21, 2002 HEY... the best food in the world is the kind that gets you to an early grave.
Guest Sandman9000 Posted September 21, 2002 Report Posted September 21, 2002 At least you'll know you'll die happy, right Reverend? ::Passes out on floor, next to bag of Doritos::
Guest MrRant Posted September 21, 2002 Report Posted September 21, 2002 At least you'll know you'll die happy, right Reverend? ::Passes out on floor, next to bag of Doritos:: Yes I will.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Posted September 21, 2002 Report Posted September 21, 2002 "Yeah, it's been done before, it's called a Frosty. . ." Yeah, but a Frosty doesn't make me gag...
Guest DerangedHermit Posted September 22, 2002 Report Posted September 22, 2002 BK Tacos: - Two oily shells with a thin layer of taco meat paste, 2 small piece of lettuce, half a slice of American cheese and too much sauce suck. Rating: *1/2, ** if there was more lettuce Grilled Sourdough Burger: - A good replacement for the Whopper Jr., which if you didn't notice, was quietly killed off. Rating: ***1/2 Chicken Tenders: -I'm shocked. They didn't raise the price. They're good though, not as good as Wendy's. Rating: ***3/4 Bacon Cheeseburger: -They've had it before. Heart attack city. Rating: **1/2 Soft Drink/Fries/Onion Rings: -A reason to raise prices of everything. Rating for price: DUD, Rating for food: N/R Garden Salad/Chili/Baked Potato: -At least they didn't croon off of McDonald's. Haven't had these. Rating: N/R Milkshake: -Haven't had this. Rating: N/R
Guest El Satanico Posted September 22, 2002 Report Posted September 22, 2002 -A reason to raise prices of everything. Rating for price: DUD, Rating for food: N/R What are you talking about there? I had never planned on getting the tacos. I don't like taco bell tacos much, so i'm sure i wouldn't like BK's version of a taco.
Guest RobJohnstone Posted September 26, 2002 Report Posted September 26, 2002 those tacos are the nastiest thing i've ever eaten, and I normally like any type of taco. They were extremely bad. --Rob
Guest Karnage Posted September 27, 2002 Report Posted September 27, 2002 I'll stick with Wendy's Chili and baked potato...
Guest redbaron51 Posted September 28, 2002 Report Posted September 28, 2002 why does a lot of fast food places has to copy off of wendy's...
Guest Karnage Posted September 29, 2002 Report Posted September 29, 2002 I actually tried some of the items off the value menu the other day. The tacos were pretty good, but they should of used shredded cheese instead of a processed slice of cheese. It was also hotter than the average taco which is good since I like spiciness and stuff. Overall I'd give it 2.5/4 stars. The Chili compared to Wendy's isn't that good. Unlike Wendy's there are carrots in there, and the small beans are white. 2/4 stars. The grilled Sour Dough Burger is kinda tiny, but this is on the Super Value Menu and it's still bigger than Mcdonald's hamburgers. The Sour Dough was soft and not crisp but it was still pretty damn good. 2.5/4 stars. I'm gonna try some more Value Menu items when I go to Burger King again.
