Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted September 20, 2002 From WrestlingObserver: Bexar County Judge Bill White scheduled a 10/9 trial for Steve Williams (Steve Austin) on misdemeanor charges of assault causing bodily injury which carries a maximum penalty of a year in prison. Williams is accused to beating wife Debra. Williams had filed for a divorce from Debra a few weeks back, but the two are attempting to reconcile. The news was carried internationally through Reuters. He was also interviewed by the local FOX station in San Antonio and was non-commital when asked about if he would return to wrestling.

Guest DJ Jeff Report post Posted September 20, 2002 I think this means that Austin won't be returning to the WWE. *sigh* Austin could have won the WWE Title, or World Title one last time before he retired.

Guest Chuck Woolery Report post Posted September 21, 2002 There is no way in hell he gets jail time. Guaranteed. He may get a fine, but no jail time.
Guest CanadianChick Report post Posted September 21, 2002 I agree...I highly doubt he will go to jail.

Guest Brian Report post Posted September 21, 2002 I'll be surprised if he gets convicted or anything more than a few hundred hours of community service. No priors, and did she ever report any domestic abuse before?
JasonX 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2002 I'll be surprised if he gets convicted or anything more than a few hundred hours of community service. No priors, and did she ever report any domestic abuse before? IIRC Debra told the police when they first interviewed her that while Austin had abused her previously, that she hadn't reported any of this prior abuse to the police lest it damage her husband's public persona. So technically, Steve enters the courtroom with the presumption that this is the first time he's hit his wife unless Debra purposely brings up the previous abuse in order to specificly hurt Steve by way of painting him to be a psychotic wife beater... Guest Brian Report post Posted September 21, 2002 Put yourself in Debra's position. You've been divorced once, and have had no problem there. You've had one marital affair. You're with a physical husband both times and yet you can't pick up the signs of abuse. Suddenly the second husband falls out of the spotlight and when it becomes almost certain he's out of the spotlight (but still collecting a paycheck), you decide to call. I mean, they were on the road together alot and you never heard a report that Debra had bruises or scars of any sort. Doesn't that all strike people as odd. Add to it that Austin never had this type of problem with his first wife.

Guest cobainwasmurdered Report post Posted September 21, 2002 Austin will get off with a fine. In all honesty this seems to be more of a case of a D.A. trying to make a name for himself by prosecuting a celebrity.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted September 21, 2002 Agreed. Hell, I've known of robbers who haven't gotten jailtime...
Guest griffinmills Report post Posted September 21, 2002 He won't get jail time. What does this mean exactly? Posted in an attempt to take some of the topic starters thunder away? As for Debra. If someone abuses you and you make no effort to record or report it then you are going to find it mighty hard to prove it down the line. It is like they say on all those "peoples court" type shows. If you are not at fault or guilty then don't do anything to cop to it. If you say you don't owe someone money then don't pay them "just to be done with it" stick to your friggin' guns and DON'T PAY THEM. Wow, convoluted.
Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted September 21, 2002 you make it sound like the First moment Debra was "abused" She would Automatically run to the police or tell somebody. Majority cases of wifebeating the wife almost always keep it a secret, put makeup over the mark, wear clothes that covers and marks or scars. Its doubtful that Austin will do any time, but its not outside the realm of Possibility. Domestic Abuse could go on and on and usually it someone elses intervining act to bring it out into the light. but hell since its Austin lets still erect Temples in his Honor since obviously he couldn't Possiblity do anything like that, even if he did...Who Cares...Its Austin! right? Guest Chuck Woolery Report post Posted September 21, 2002 but hell since its Austin lets still erect Temples in his Honor since obviously he couldn't Possiblity do anything like that, even if he did...Who Cares...Its Austin! right? Don't bother stringing that line o'shit with me, because I honestly think that he did beat her at least once, possibly more... hell, that could be why WWE did a feature on their marriage, although I highly doubt that. What I'm saying is, they won't give a major star significant jail time. Maybe thirty days, and that's a big maybe. Most likely, he'll get a few hundred hours of community service. Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted September 21, 2002 No matter what he gets as little it is will be damaging enough too whatever was left of his career.
Guest Chuck Woolery Report post Posted September 21, 2002 I agree with that. However, if McMahon is intent on burying Austin as a heel in the mark's eyes, this could be a golden opportunity. Not to say that I agree with that line of thinking, but I could see Vince using that to get Austin more heat.
Guest humongous2002 Report post Posted September 21, 2002 Hell!!! After Austin does time in jail he'll be back to WWE and all the fans will cheer for him non-stop, even though he abused a woman all the marks think it's normal to beat up a woman, if the Taliban used to do it why not Austin?? OH HEEL YEAHHH!!!!
Guest humongous2002 Report post Posted September 21, 2002 OH HELL YEAH!!!!!
Guest Brian Report post Posted September 21, 2002 See, this is where I disagree. Debra had a tough case to prove that Austin beat her. Not only does he still have that superstar aura around him, but without prior cases it's going to be hard to put together motive and such. You don't think somebody, somewhere in the WWE with both of those two touring would have eventually noticed Debra had bruises and such. Make-up artists, women wrestlers, even male wrestlers. And no prior abuse on his other, more long standing partner. Most cases of wifebeating also don't include the wife traveling on the road with said person; appearing on television; and just generally living in such a rumor mill as the WWE. It's going to be incredibly difficult to take on Debra's case without witness or priors. And I realize you dislike Austin but there's no need to throw around the bullshit lines to try and get rises out of people who are just speaking the truth and logic. Guest residueofsociety Report post Posted September 21, 2002 Austin won't get jail time, he will have to do a bunch of community service and pay court fees, and when he's done, he'll go home and probably beat her again. That will be the way until their relationship is totally destroyed.
