Guest Angle-plex Posted September 22, 2002 Report Posted September 22, 2002 Would "Escape From New York" count as Sci-fi?
Guest Kotzenjunge Posted September 22, 2002 Report Posted September 22, 2002 It's listed as such on the digital cable guide, so sure. No one can forget Alphaville and Metropolis in their top ten of Science Fiction movies. Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge
Guest The Notorious CRD Posted September 22, 2002 Report Posted September 22, 2002 In no particular order: 1. The Empire Strikes Back 2. Aliens 3. Terminator 2: Judgment Day 4. The Matrix 5. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn 6. Signs 7. Star Wars 8. Star Trek: First Contact 9. Blade Runner 10. 2001: A Space Odyssey
Guest mesepher Posted September 22, 2002 Report Posted September 22, 2002 I'm not too into the whole SciFi... but out of the Star Wars movies... Emprie is definitely the best, so Empire is my number 1.
Guest C.H.U.D. Posted September 22, 2002 Report Posted September 22, 2002 Ahhhh!! Too many "Top 10" threads!
Guest MrRant Posted September 22, 2002 Report Posted September 22, 2002 It's not so much a top ten as a what 10 movies would you give to someone that were sci-fi that you liked. Ok so its a top 10 thread.
Guest DawnBTVS Posted September 22, 2002 Report Posted September 22, 2002 I'll just add The Fifth Element(I dug Milla Jovovich and Bruce Willis...bite me).
Guest godthedog Posted September 22, 2002 Report Posted September 22, 2002 It's listed as such on the digital cable guide, so sure. No one can forget Alphaville and Metropolis in their top ten of Science Fiction movies. Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge haven't seen 'alphaville', but since godard did it i already must decry it as boring and overrated
Guest Ozymandias Posted September 23, 2002 Report Posted September 23, 2002 -Blade Runner -2001 -Empire Strikes Back -Aliens -Star Trek 2 -Star Wars -Alien -Dark City -The Matrix - (tie) Terminator 2; They Live (shut up)
Guest MrRant Posted September 23, 2002 Report Posted September 23, 2002 I am suprised about the props to Star Trek 2: Wrath of Kahn
Guest Ozymandias Posted September 23, 2002 Report Posted September 23, 2002 People who don't know shit about ST will piss on it like they do all things Trek, but real fans of Sci-Fi and film know better. The movie is just really fucking brilliant in the way they pit Khan/Kirk against each other, and the (LONG overdue) character development of Kirk, and Khan's RIGHTEOUS anger that almost makes you side with him, and the amazing dialogue (its been years since I've gone a week without in some way referencing/paraphrasing/quoting the Khan/Kirk dialogue after Khan steals the Genesis), and...everything else. All action directors today should be forced to repeatedly watch the 2 battle scenes between the Enterprise and Khan's stolen ship. I've never seen such a brilliant use of pacing in extended action scenes like that - before or since. From Hell's Heart I Stab At Thee, Cletus
Guest Vyce Posted September 23, 2002 Report Posted September 23, 2002 I agree with the mention of Dark City. That film is a CLASSIC. How could you list a Star Trek film (even the great #2) above it????
Guest La Parka Es Mi Papa Posted September 23, 2002 Report Posted September 23, 2002 The Star Wars triolgy needs to be watched as a whole.
Guest WrestlingDeacon Posted September 23, 2002 Report Posted September 23, 2002 1) Blade Runner 2) Star Trek 2: Wrath of Kahn 3) Empire Strikes Back 4) Back to the Future 5) Frequency 6) Alien 7) The Fly (remake) 8) Metropolis 9) They Live 10) Planet of the Apes (original)
Guest gwf0704 Posted September 25, 2002 Report Posted September 25, 2002 1)The Empire Strikes Back 2)Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan 3)2001: A Space Oddysey 4)Blade Runner 5)Star Wars 6)The Matrix 7)Metropolis 8)Dark City 9)Close Encounters of the Third Kind 10) X-Files : The Movie

The Special Edition DVD kicks ass sorts of ass especially the interview with Ricardo Montablon (sp)
Guest DARRYLXWF Posted September 26, 2002 Report Posted September 26, 2002 I would say that 2001 would be far above most sci fi films you've mentioned.
Guest pochorenella Posted September 26, 2002 Report Posted September 26, 2002 I'm counting the Star Wars Trilogy as one (flame me all you want). The rest is in no particular order: Star Wars Trilogy Aliens Terminator 2 Close Encounters of The Third Kind The Matrix The X-Files: Fight The Future Total Recall Blade Runner Ghost In The Shell (anime counts, right?) Akira I really liked ST2: The Wrath of Khan (specially since I saw it after watching the TV episode with Khan in it), but not enough to place it in my Top Ten.
Guest Karnage Posted September 27, 2002 Report Posted September 27, 2002 2001 is so overrated. That is so true.
Guest DARRYLXWF Posted September 27, 2002 Report Posted September 27, 2002 2001 is so overrated. That is so true. Really? I quite enjoyed it, and is one of my favourite films. Why do you think it's overrated?
Guest redbaron51 Posted September 27, 2002 Report Posted September 27, 2002 1.) Empire Strikes Back 2.) Metropolis 3.) Attack of the Clones 4.) Wrath of Kahn 5.) A New Hope 6.) Matrix (its listed as Sci-Fi) 7.) Blade Runner 8.) Return of the Jedi 9.) Terminator 10.) Aliens 2
Guest ArkhamGlobe Posted September 27, 2002 Report Posted September 27, 2002 In alphabetical order: Alphaville Blade Runner (Director's Cut) Brazil Escape from New York Flash Gordon (I have my reasons) Metropolis 12 Monkeys (if it counts) 2001 - A Space Odyssey That's all I can think of at the moment.
Guest C.H.U.D. Posted September 27, 2002 Report Posted September 27, 2002 Really? I quite enjoyed it, and is one of my favourite films. Why do you think it's overrated? I enjoyed it as well, but so many people have deemed it a "classic" and one of the "best movies of all time". I think there are much better sci-fi flicks out there, 2001 seems a little too pretentious to me. It's a good film, but I don't think it's one of the best films ever, or even one of the best sci-fi films ever. Of course, that's just my opinion.
Guest Mystery Eskimo Posted September 27, 2002 Report Posted September 27, 2002 2001 is awesome, IMO. But then I am a Kubrick mark.
Guest NazMistry Posted September 27, 2002 Report Posted September 27, 2002 My list 10) Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi 9) Back To The Future 8) Terminator 7) Blade Runner 6) Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back 5) Close Encounters Of The Third Kind 4) Back To The Future II 3) War Of The Worlds (50's version) 2) 2001: A Space Odyssey And without a doubt (In my mind)... 1) Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope Honourable mentions: Alien, Aliens, Event Horizon, Minority Report, Frequency, Akira, Megazone 23, Mack & Me and Flight Of The Navigator. (the last two were a joke).
Guest Angle-plex Posted September 27, 2002 Report Posted September 27, 2002 Escape from New York The Matrix Aliens Alien New Hope Empire Stikes Back Terminator Terminator 2 Predator (Kind of Sci-Fi)
Guest C.H.U.D. Posted September 28, 2002 Report Posted September 28, 2002 Mack & Me and Flight Of The Navigator. (the last two were a joke). Whaaaaaaat? They rock!
Guest MrRant Posted September 28, 2002 Report Posted September 28, 2002 I love Flight Of The Navigator. I remember when that first came out.
