I'm not too into the whole SciFi... but out of the Star Wars movies... Emprie is definitely the best, so Empire is my number 1.

It's not so much a top ten as a what 10 movies would you give to someone that were sci-fi that you liked.

Ok so its a top 10 thread.

People who don't know shit about ST will piss on it like they do all things Trek, but real fans of Sci-Fi and film know better.

The movie is just really fucking brilliant in the way they pit Khan/Kirk against each other, and the (LONG overdue) character development of Kirk, and Khan's RIGHTEOUS anger that almost makes you side with him, and the amazing dialogue (its been years since I've gone a week without in some way referencing/paraphrasing/quoting the Khan/Kirk dialogue after Khan steals the Genesis), and...everything else.

All action directors today should be forced to repeatedly watch the 2 battle scenes between the Enterprise and Khan's stolen ship. I've never seen such a brilliant use of pacing in extended action scenes like that - before or since.

I agree with the mention of Dark City.

That film is a CLASSIC.

How could you list a Star Trek film (even the great #2) above it????

I like ST 2 and that is why I put it on the list. The Special Edition DVD kicks ass sorts of ass especially the interview with Ricardo Montablon (sp)

I'm counting the Star Wars Trilogy as one (flame me all you want). The rest is in no particular order:

Star Wars Trilogy

Aliens

Terminator 2

Close Encounters of The Third Kind

The Matrix

The X-Files: Fight The Future

Total Recall

Blade Runner

Ghost In The Shell (anime counts, right?)

Akira

I really liked ST2: The Wrath of Khan (specially since I saw it after watching the TV episode with Khan in it), but not enough to place it in my Top Ten.

2001 is so overrated.

That is so true.

Really? I quite enjoyed it, and is one of my favourite films. Why do you think it's overrated?

I enjoyed it as well, but so many people have deemed it a "classic" and one of the "best movies of all time". I think there are much better sci-fi flicks out there, 2001 seems a little too pretentious to me. It's a good film, but I don't think it's one of the best films ever, or even one of the best sci-fi films ever.

Of course, that's just my opinion.
