Guest gthureson Report post Posted September 22, 2002 Just thought I would start a thread to discuss how certain guys are doing in camp, who seems to be on their way out for various teams, who might be left unprotected for the waiver draft and any trades that do occur. I'll start with some stuff I've picked up from reading around the net: Canucks trade Peter Schaeffer to the Senators for Sami Salo: Figure the 'nucks win this one because Scaeffer seemed content to play in Finland until Vancouver paid him more. And, they got the more talented player. Salo is oft-injured, however, so it doesn't really solve the Nuckleheads need for another defenceman. It only alleviates for maybe 55-60 games a season. Schaeffer is fast, and has a decent shot, but is considered fairly soft. The pundit in me feels the need to say, "Fast and soft! Perfect fit for Ottawa." No one gets shafted in this deal, but I'd say the edge goes to Vancouver. Oilers Camp News: Dan Cleary hasn't impressed at all, and he is on the bubble fighting with rookies for a roster spot. Jason Chimera, Ales Hemsky and Jani Rita are all impressing, meaning guys like Marty Reasoner, Josh Green and Ethan Moreau shouldn't be buying a house in Edmonton any time soon. Somebody half decent, maybe Ethan Moreau 'cause he's making 1.4 mil is going to get left open for the waiver draft. And Todd Marchant is going to get dealt after accepting a 1 year lowball offer so he can be unrestricted next year. Don't be surprised if some kind of 3 for 1 deal goes down and the Oil opens up a couple of roster spots for young forwards in return for some kind of steady number 4 or 5 defenceman. Their d-prospects seem to be a bit behind their forwards in development. The Oilers are the only team whose camp I've been following, so if anybody else has training camp news for other teams, throw it all in here.
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted September 22, 2002 Habs start the preson off 2-0...which basically means they will be a mediocore team in the season. Leafs gets blown out 7-1 in their first game of preseason. Now I'm not sure if Belfour is really that bad, or is it just a reality check for leaf fans that CuJo was the team. Well apparently Belfour actually let in 3 of 22 shots before leaving in the second, so the lack of defensive support should probably be addressed as well. And Kidd did well in the win tonight, so there's still hope in that department. But all the same, it's the preseason, so I'm not gonna call the Leafs dead yet. Guest treble charged Report post Posted September 23, 2002 As soon as Belfour stops the first shot he faces, I'll be somewhat relieved. Until then, I'll just sulk in my corner.
