Guest Joe_G Report post Posted September 22, 2002 WHAT WORKED I notice that Atlantis almost always gets stuck as the partner of Rayo, Porky, or Silva and has to carry the match for his side. Does PWI still give out the Inspirational Wrestler of the Year Award? Atlantis has my vote. Anyhoo, he teams with Porky and Silva (of course) against the dastardly trio of Dr. Wagner, Black Tiger, and Takemura. Rudos jump the tcs and dominate the fall, and at least keep things more interesting than the usual punch and kick fest. Takemura’s jumping rolling kick is pretty choice. Things end quickly as Porky gets pinned after a double backdrop and a Takemura elbowdrop, and Atlantis goes out after a Wagner sit-out powerbomb. We see some sort of award ceremony in the ring honoring Manuel Nobles and Karloff Lagrande. Nice sentiment, but I don’t know why they stuck it in the middle of a match. We come back with Rayo getting worked over. Are the announcers saying “Mafia Japonese?” Why not just say “Yakuza?” Tecnicos finally come back after Rayo hits a double clothesline on Tiger and Wagner. Wagner gets unmasked for the umpteenth time. Rayo does his “comedy” and the world’s slowest tope on Wagner while Porky takes out the other rudos with a splash to win the fall. Atlantis starts the tercera caida and I wish he’d stay in there for the whole thing. Rayo and cryin’ Porky come back in but we soon get more Atlantis and the match gets good again. Oops, the camera AAA’s Porky’s apron dive to the floor. The tecnicos soon get the win when Atlantis locks Tiger in the Atlantida while Rayo gets Wagner (boo) with a grounded Romero Special, I guess. I dunno, there was some crap in here. But Atlantis worked hard and the finish was clean, so we’ll say this worked. It’s close, though. Rayo rips off Wagner’s mask post-match, and he and Atlantis wishbone it. Wagner gets a backup mask from Tiger, and that gets ripped off too. The ring announcer says something over the house mic, so were the tecs DQ’d for the post-match mask ripping? I hope not. We only see the tercera caida of Talibanes vs. Felino/Virus/Volador as the Virus Tecnico Turn World Tour continues. We see Virus and Volador take on all three members of the Talibanes, and the former Guapos are polite enough to pinball for the high-flying youngsters. Felino and Scorpio have a really lighting fast sequence and I don’t remember the last time the Talibanes looked this good. Emilio comes in and catches Felino with a powerbomb and…gets the pin? Scorpio does the same to Volador and Bestia gets Virus to uncle to a half-crab. The Talibanes stand triumphant as I scratch my head, because (a) the ending came out of nowhere and (b) the Talibanes never win. We only saw three minutes of action, but what we saw was pretty good, so I guess this worked. Another close one, though. Pierroth addresses the troops in…I dunno, an abandoned pool hall? Veneno comes screaming into the room with a big honkin’ gun, but gets chewed out by Pierroth. Pierroth apparently has Marcellus’ briefcase from Pulp Fiction. The skit ends with everyone singing the Commando Fight Song. We really need a Phil Silvers-esque show starring Veneno. Any skit that makes me laugh out loud definitely makes it into the worked column. Stellar moments sees a whacky submission by someone I don’t recognize. Zumbido~! take a tope to the back and throws in a flip for good measure. Best midget Asai moonsault ever! Tigre Blanco splats himself on the floor. Virus rams Fuerza headfirst into the post. Ultimo Guerrero and Rey Buccanero discuss their upcoming match in their dressing room. We get a big close-up of Rey’s sunglasses so we can see the reflection of Ultimo. A window breaks, and apparently it’s cats. Huh? Time for your quality lucha main event of the week as it’s Ultimo/Rey/Blue Panther vs. Vampiro/Shocker/Lizmark Jr. Rudos jump the tecs on the ramp and dominate the fall. Vamp takes a double stomp from Ultimo on the apron in a really nutty spot. Blue Panther fills in for Tarzan Boy quite admirably as the rudos get Shocker with a triple submission and Vamp with a double press slam into a spinebuster. Segunda caida sees more of the same until Shocker makes a comeback with a very cool sequence. Shocker and Vamp hit dives to the floor as Lizmark uses a moonsault press and D’Lo’s spinning slam move on Panther to even things up. Shocker teaches Vamp how to pose between falls. Tercera caida sees the tecnicos dominate the match until Lizmark gets caught with a Fujiwara armbar from Panther and taps out. We get a Shocker/Vamp vs. GdI sequence to hype the tag match that ends with Shocker getting Bucky to uncle and Vamp pinning Ultimo after a pumphandle into an uranage (to block Ultimo’s counter?). Booking 101 and another fine main event in the books. WHAT DIDN'T WORK Rayo and Atlantis meet up in the arena to discuss their upcoming match. But where’s Porky? The cafeteria, of course. They track him down to get ready for the match. I notice Rayo’s wearing a business suit while Atlantis opts for a more casual look. Eh, not much here. Good news: The Commandos/Gran Markus feud appears to be over. Bad news: it’s apparently been replaced by a Capos/Commandos feud. Big brawl breaks out and the Capos pull out a quadruple dropkick (!), which was pretty neat. Violencia takes a hiptoss from the ring to the ramp in a brutal looking bump. Bulldog throws punches that make John Cena shake his head. Bulldog grabs a flimsy looking pipe and whacks the Capos for the quick DQ. Apollo receives the Nancy Kerrigan treatment and gets helped to the back. Commandos kick and punch and after about 8 hours get DQ’d for excessive violence, I guess. Wow, brutally boring and TWO DQ finishes. Much Yelling Into The Mic™ by Pierroth afterwards. Aren’t you torqued for Pierroth/Mascara Ano Dos Mil? Decent enough show. Next week should be interesting. Joe EMLL Board that's pretty wacky itself
Guest razazteca Report post Posted September 22, 2002 man this sucks as I seem to wake up to late to watch Dr Wagner match, but I did see the final match with Shocker & Vampiro. What is the deal with the Shocker taunt pose? is this a tribute to their teacher or what as I have seen at least 3 other wrestlers do the same pose, and 2 were masked WCW luchadores and I think Juvi did it also. But anyway that submission by Shocker to win the 3rd caida was a painfull looking move as Dusty Rhodes would say "He Unkled him with a pretzel move" do you know the name of it? it looked like every body part was in pain as the legs were in a figure 4 then neck had pressure applied with the leg/knee of Shocker and then a armbar!!! I saw some of the wrestling today as the local football game was Cowboys losing bigtime to Eagles and notice an old match of Villinos vs gdi with Mascara Magica without the mask. Ultimo Guerrero looked out of shape and Rey Bucannero's face paint was a weak oWn Warrior look. The Villinos looked surprising good back then as V4 & V5 did some good double team moves and V3 did the usuall submission moves. Then I saw the last few minutes of AAA with La Parka & Latin Lover & Perro Aguaro vs Vipers & Hector Garza and damn the match had some sweet spots by La Parka as he jumped from the top rope to the 1st row among other planchas. Whether its Parka Jr or not it was still a good performance now that he was not stuck carrying Abriule and mini him in matches.
