Guest Anglesault Posted September 24, 2002 Report Posted September 24, 2002 I think Brock should be pushed all year for the sole benefit of getting someone over as a super face, and that someone should be Angle. ::smashes head into wall 17 times:: Angle is already the most over heel in the company. Wouldn't make that much more sense to give HIM the push you want to give Brock and give someone who is already mega over as a face the Angle push?
Guest BionicRedneck Posted September 24, 2002 Report Posted September 24, 2002 I believe Kurt dissapointed management as a draw in the main events last time (even though he was booked poorly) which is probably why he isn't giving him the "Brock Push" and Vince hopes to create a big draw out of Brock as Lesnar is a fresh face.

Besides the fact that he is an awful face, Angle got layed out by everyone and their mother in that run, including SHANE McMAHON
Guest BionicRedneck Posted September 24, 2002 Report Posted September 24, 2002 I agree he was booked poorly. One of the weakest looking World Champions ever.
LaParkaYourCar Posted September 24, 2002 Report Posted September 24, 2002 Am I the only one that enjoyed Angle as a face? His promos gave me goosebumps during the build up with Austin...especially the one where he ripped off the neck brace. But I realize he's much better as a heel.
Guest BionicRedneck Posted September 24, 2002 Report Posted September 24, 2002 Nah, Angle wasn't good as a face. His response from the crowd wasn't good for a top face either.
LaParkaYourCar Posted September 24, 2002 Report Posted September 24, 2002 Funny.....I thought he was getting some pretty nice pops. Maybe I'm wrong.
Guest BionicRedneck Posted September 24, 2002 Report Posted September 24, 2002 he was...at some points. But not towards the end.
LaParkaYourCar Posted September 24, 2002 Report Posted September 24, 2002 That could be because towards the end of his face push RVD started getting his small push which diverted the fans attention to RVD cause he was put in the No Mercy main event.
Guest Anglesault Posted September 24, 2002 Report Posted September 24, 2002 He was good around InVasion and Summerslam, but it dies down after that with the Austin Lite character, and after 9/11, when it became obvious that they were trying to milk cheers for him, and when everyone realized how absurd it was to have Patriotic Angle face evil foreign Texan Austin.
Guest BionicRedneck Posted September 24, 2002 Report Posted September 24, 2002 Possibly, but I think most of his face pops were coming from the patriotism around that time and the fact he was opposing Austin and the Alliance.
Guest nikowwf Posted September 25, 2002 Report Posted September 25, 2002 I think giving Angle the title right now when the company is probably at their lowest would be as close to a kiss of death as you could wish for. Niko
Guest PlatypusFool Posted September 25, 2002 Report Posted September 25, 2002 Ah, it's so nice to be reminded of why I watch puro To read so many threads on how bad the WWE is makes me think of how good NJPW is at the moment, and that makes me happy.
Guest humongous2002 Posted September 25, 2002 Report Posted September 25, 2002 It seems that they are working on Angle turning face, it might work or not since the fans give major heel heat to Angle than Benoit. I personally think Angle might leave WWE for the olympics soon, that might help freshen up his character and the fans will miss him.On top of that if he wins another gold medal, that will automatically will make him a babyface and by the time he comes back to WWE HHH and Underseller will already be killed by a mob of angry fans.
Guest Goodear Posted September 25, 2002 Report Posted September 25, 2002 I think giving Angle the title right now when the company is probably at their lowest would be as close to a kiss of death as you could wish for. Niko Well, Niko, if you want to actually get out of a lull, you have to push someone the fans will react to... This whole, "[insert name here] doesn't need the title" isn't the best way to draw in fans. People want the top guys with the belts (see Hogan and Austin) and not people they don't see as being on that level trying to get some heat after they capture the prize (Jericho, Brock more than likely).
Guest Goodear Posted September 25, 2002 Report Posted September 25, 2002 Ah, it's so nice to be reminded of why I watch puro To watch Chyna and The Great Not-Muta? And don't forget Giant Silva!
Guest humongous2002 Posted September 25, 2002 Report Posted September 25, 2002 Hogan and Austin were champions and the ratings were still down, people want to see somebody else new on top, somebody else who's really over. If you want to see Austin and the Orange Goblin as champs go buy yourself some old tapes.

If you want to see Austin and the Orange Goblin as champs go buy yourself some old tapes. See, I didn't mean Austin and Hogan should be champs right now. Just that the fans wanted them on top during their heydays, and when they were, they drew tremendus business. Having your top guy at the top is always best for business in my opinion. Other than that, I agree with your statement, the WWE needs to push someone who the fans want to see on the top of the card, like heel Angle or face RVD.
Guest Brian Posted September 25, 2002 Report Posted September 25, 2002 The problem was Angle as face was basically wrestling the same match as heel, the one that he's been using now. Isn't NJPW still on the brink, and basically re-building at this point (though I've heard there's been some really good stuff mainly involving Nakanishi)? Eddie's number one right now. Benoit's a close two, Angle's three. Angle still has the smallest little problems in his wrestling.
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted September 25, 2002 Report Posted September 25, 2002 "that they HAVE to go back to Angle being the champ at some point because he is point blank the most talented person in the company." Umm....that's Benoit. Sorry Angle's number 2! Anyways that being said they really should have that belt around Angle's waist. He's the best one to carry it right now and he's a better heel than Brock.
Guest El Psycho Diablo Posted September 25, 2002 Report Posted September 25, 2002 Angle has a better chance as a real champ. Benoit? HAH! Transitional at best..unless monotone promos are your thing. Lesnar's just an overpushed hoss.
Guest Brian Posted September 25, 2002 Report Posted September 25, 2002 Isn't it much too early to call Brock untalented? He hasn't had a quality opponent in his first six months.
Guest alfdogg Posted September 25, 2002 Report Posted September 25, 2002 I just LOVE how Shiro lurks around until Benoit is brought up, then comes and makes one of his little wise cracks. I mean, what a sense of humor. He just lights up my day...
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted September 25, 2002 Report Posted September 25, 2002 "Benoit? HAH! Transitional at best..unless monotone promos are your thing." Wait what was that the fans were cheering for at Unforgiven? Oh wait what was it? Wrestling!? What does Benoit do better than anyone else in NA!? WRESTLE! What bores the hell out of fans? Promos? Wow! Who cuts boring monotone promos but is still on top and trying to carry the company? HHH! Who got over without every cutting a promo? What was his name? Oh yeah Goldberg and he had huge pops! What was Benoit before he got injured? Oh right he was over! What was he in WCW? Oh right he was over there to! Seriously all this bullshit about Benoit not being able to be cut a promo thus never being a champ is bullshit. HHH can't even wrestle or cut a decent promo and he's on top. Benoit has been over in the past and the fans seem to be popping a lot more for wrestling these days. So you know the anti-smark i hate benoit because everyone else likes him people need to cool it. Face it Benoit could be over as champ if booked right.
Guest Smark Hammill Posted September 25, 2002 Report Posted September 25, 2002 It seems that they are working on Angle turning face, it might work or not since the fans give major heel heat to Angle than Benoit. It's called charisma, and Benoit simply does not have it, while Angle does.
Guest Brian Posted September 25, 2002 Report Posted September 25, 2002 I think the most overlooked definition of charisma is how you portray your character in the ring. Everyone seems to always bring up how Benoit doesn't have charisma because he doesn't play to the crowd but the majority of what defines charisma is being able to portray a character in the ring. It's about being able to give the subtle glares and nuances, the little motions and the ever so slight heel movements, the ability to look at your opponent with the utter most hatred and carry through with it; not just the flare with which you throw your moves and you intensity. What does Benoit not do that makes him so uncharismatic?

Guest Brian Posted September 25, 2002 Report Posted September 25, 2002 I still think when they don't have eddie rambling in Spanish, he beats Angle in every category.

What does Benoit not do that makes him so uncharismatic? Benoit has a tendency to go through his moves without any frills added in, so he doesn't draw a whole lot of anticipatory cheers. He'll basically just grab someone and suplex people, which can get a good reaction, but doesn't draw RVD or Angle type pops off moves. For instance, before RVD hits the Five Star, he'll generally look at the fans to his left and right before jumping. Ric Flair would have a running commentary during his matches with the people at ringside, and of course, all the "whoos." Benoit blocks the fans out during the match, and ergo can't be considered a great in the world of in-ring charisma. Granted, in the most overdone cases, like Rock and Scotty II Hottie, fans actually cheer the things that happen before the move than the move itself... but that's not what we want out of Benoit, since it doesn't work with his character at all.
Guest BionicRedneck Posted September 25, 2002 Report Posted September 25, 2002 I still think when they don't have eddie rambling in Spanish, he beats Angle in every category I don't think he has a better promo than Angle. Other than that, I agree.
