Well, I just realized the link doesn't work anymore, so here's what it said..

 

Where in the world is Jason Mewes? A spokesman for a former co-star of the quirky actor told this column on behalf of his client Wednesday that ''we are naturally very worried about Jason and only hope he is alive and has found the help and treatment he needs.''

 

Mewes, best known for being the ''Jay'' half of ''Jay and Silent Bob'' in his pal Kevin Smith's movies, is still a fugitive from justice and has not been spotted in nearly 10 months. Close friends suspect Mewes is either dead or hiding overseas--in a country without a U.S. extradition treaty agreement.

 

Still outstanding is a $50,000 bench warrant from the Monmouth County, N.J., Superior Court--issued after Mewes failed to show up for meetings with his probation officer late last year. In addition, the actor also missed a scheduled parole-violation hearing, tied to his pleading guilty to possession of heroin and a hypodermic needle. Mewes was sentenced to two years probation for that case in April 2000.

 

Neither Smith (currently filming ''Jersey Girl'' with Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez) nor Affleck (who appeared with Mewes in such Smith flicks as ''Mallrats,'' ''Chasing Amy'' and ''Dogma'') would comment on the actor's disappearance.

Last I heard Kevin Smith said on his website message board that he wasn't speaking to Jay until he went through rehab. Jay went to rehab and left without finishing. Kevin said he'll be in the movie if he cleans himself up.

Maybe Smith is just practicing tough love. Smith is the reason Jay Mewes has any money and isn't in jail already. Either that or Jay would have been a one hit wonder on Jackass or something like that. So Smith tells Jay no more movies or fame until you clean up. Sounds fair to me.

Big difference: The characters "Jay" & "Silent Bob" would hardly be considered hardcore stoners. Basically all you saw in the comics and movies were two guys that were mostly all talk and little to show for it. Sure they did stuff, sure they probably were the "Mack Daddies of New Jersey" but for the most part, they represented the tamness of the drug culture.

 

Jason Mewes however is deep into the dark underbelly of the said drug culture. Into more hardcore shit than anything that one could have gotten from Jay on the corner of the Quick Stop.

 

From all accounts "Jay" and "Bob" were not menances to society, themselves or those around them.

 

Jason has proven that he IS a danger to himself, and therefore he is hurting those around him.

 

BTW for the record, this is part of the reason Kevin retired the J&SB characters as they represented youthfull experimentation and not at all a lifestyle suited for an older set, which Kevin is slowly becoming himself with his wife, daughter and career.

 

Its more of a way of Kevin saying "Hey I need to grow up here, my youth is over" and "Jay" and "Bob" represented that (along with Dante, Randall, Brodie, ect) kind of teen slacker mentality, to which Jason has apparantly not done.

 

Also I don't think it was ever condoning a lifestyle more than it was showing what the lifestyle was/is like. Remeber also, his films were comedies, no doubt the characters "Jay" and "Bob" would be starkly different had they been written for a dark, and gritty dramatic portrayl of life of two New Jersey drug pushers. Hell "Jay" and "Bob" probably weren't as serious and hardcore to be even considered characters for such a film.

Like other people said, heroin is not marijuana.

 

And the Askewniverse didn't endorse drug use. Jay was an idiot. You're not supposed to want to be like him. He didn't really cut all ties either...he just wants him to clean himself up.

 

And "enocuraging a young girl to say 'wraps'"? What does that mean? Went right over my head.

 

And the story wasn't BS, though ... he was missing for 10 months.

Jason Mewes has had trouble with heroin for the past few years. He has been arrested on several occasions for it. If anyone owns the Chasing Amy DVD, you see mewes in absolute terrible shape. That whole arguement about Smith being somewhat responsible/or supporting the whole drug angle is ridiculous. What View Askew does is humor - with a side of drama. It is a story. Nothing more. As a friend how could you stand by and watch someone destroy their life? Is Mewes won't help himself, than who will? That has to be were Kevin is coming from. Moreover, having a cameo is the last thing Mewes needs if he has this habit. This would be money VA would be putting in Mewes pocket for drug money.

 

I am not a mindless VA shill - but this had to be done. Unfortunatly, in my heart of hearts, as it pertains to his death, I think it won't be matter of if with Mewes, it will be about when.

On the deleted scenes disc of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back when introducing a deleted scene, he was holding his daughter and told her to say something and he said say wraps in a jokingly way.

I'm not defending the whole "Jason Mewes is an addict because of the character he played" arguement. But, for continuity's sake the Jay & Silent Bob characters didn't just smoke pot. Jay's mentioned coke/cocaine several times.. hell, it's even in his little song at the begining of "Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back"...

i just find it funny that he disappeared for ten months then just showed up at the LA film festival when they all thought he was dead. Glad he's alive though.
