DVD releases for 9/24

Some good stuff this week, although I'm saving most of my $$$ for next week.

Amadeus: The Director's Cut SE

This is one of my favourite films of all time, and the original DVD really blew. Finally, it get's a worthy release. The director's cut is 20 minutes longer than the original, it comes with remastered sound (sounds great) and director's commentary.

Frankenthumb

Steve O's latest Thumbation comedy short. For die hard fans only.

Heavenly Creatures

Surreal, impressive and intelligent Peter Jackson film get's a much needed widescreen release in it's unrated form. I wouldn't be suprised if there is an SE released in the future.

Man Bites Dog

Criterion releases the notoriously violent and disturbing "mockumentary". I haven't seen this film, but I sure would like to. Criterion discs are usually quite expensive, so hopefully I'll be able to rent it.

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest: SE

Another movie that needed an SE considering the crap quality of the original disc. The 2 disc set is pretty loaded, including deleted scenes, commentary and more.

True Romance

Yet another Warner Bros. SE release of a great film that needed one. This is one of the best looking SE's ever. Amazing commentaries with almost everyone involved with the film, deleted scenes an alternate ending and more.

Unforgiven

One of my favourite Clint Eastwood films also get's a 2 disc SE from Warner Bros. The features aren't as impressive as the other releases, but the anamorphic widescreen and 5.1 sound is good enough for me.

'Till next week.

Dude, Man Bites Dog is SO overrated... I've never been so bored by wanton violence in my life. I mean, it didn't even MEAN anything... they can have some annoying asshole kill as many people as they like, but its not "controversial" unless the deaths mean anything, which none of them did. I felt not even the slightest connection to any character in that movie... victim, killer, or "good guy".

Oh, in regards to Heavenly Creatures, I read that the German Region 2 release is going to have several features that aren't on Region 1... again. Whasupwidat?

I didn't find Man Bites Dog violent at all. I can't recall anything about it being violent in the least. I don't remember it being that great either.

I think the "controversial violence" comes from the guy just killing all those random people. In terms of "violence" though, its poorly shot black and white footage that isn't even that gory or terrible violence. It's boring violence.

Damn straight! I put out the Blood Freak love in the other DVD releases thread this week. The question is... am I going to go to the mall tomorrow to pick this disc up? You're damn right I am!

I think my roomate rented Man Bites Dog last year. It was subtitled and made very little sense to me at all.

My roomate was into a lot of foreign movies..

Shocked that CHUD didn't include the following two movies:

Blood Freak

and...

The Blood Drinkers

You're slacking CHUD...come on man  :D

Oops, my bad.

I'm not familiar with The Blood Drinkers, but I have heard a great deal about Blood Freak. I had it written down, but for some reason forgot to add it on my post (same with Zombie 3, which comes out on the 24th).

I'll probably purchase Blood Freak blindly. How can a movie about a biker turned into a vigilante, blood drinking turkey not be good?

Exactly... I'm also probably going to get Hercules Against the Moon Men/The Witch's Curse double feature from Something Weird that drops next month.

I might have to get Blood Freak off Amazon though, I'm going to check Suncoast tomorrow to see if they have it. I'm kinda doubtful because they have some Something Weird discs, but mostly the "more viable" ones like Kiss Me Quick, although I found my Terror in the Midnight Sun at a Suncoast back home, so ya never know.
