C'mon its the Chargers this year.

Doug Flutie will lead them to the super bowl which is held in San Diego....

San Diego all the way

on the serious note, I thought the Steelers would be the best team this year....yep

The Vikes went 15-1 in 1998 with Randall Cunningham as their QB and a

defense that consisted of washed-up veterans (Randle, McDaniel etc.) and nothing else.... I predict an undefeated team in the near future, with the talent pool being diluted by expansion and the like.

Hey, even if it's every 2048 years, I was still right.

Sure, if there's an NFL in the year 4050. But if there is, I bet there'll be about 20 games a year, in which case we get (.5)^20, which will give us one undefeated team for over 1 million season-teams. Now the odds get MUCH worse - 1 unbeaten team every 16,384 years. And that should be enough time for another Ice Age.

Hmm. I bet theres something messed up in that logic. There has to be.

I predict the Panthers will stay undefeated the longest, probably only to lose their last game.

Complete reversal of last year where they won their first game and lost the last 15.

But they then went on to lose in the playoffs. We're talking undefeated all the way through the Super Bowl.

And, as a Dolphins fan, you should be rooting *against* another undefeated team. :D

There you go: "got lucky." They did, in a respect. That doesn't happen often in today's NFL. The game rewards teams that make shrewd personnel moves, that scout well, and that draft well. Not that the Rams didn't do any of those things, but who knew Warner would turn into such a superstar? None of us did, but the Rams obviously knew something about him if they dragged him out of a grocery store to play for them. Faulk was a known commodity and a good locker room presence, and he happened to fit perfectly in the offensive scheme. They made their own luck in those areas. The rest of their team, including the offensive line and the defense, was a pretty intact unit, though, so there was some gelling going on, even during the era of Tony Goddamn Banks.

Look at the NFC this year. Is there any team that looks better than mediocre this year?

Yes. Two, actually: New Orleans and Philadelphia. The Saints have a great young QB, a great young RB, good talent at WR, a good line, and a good defense. The Eagles don't have quite the strength at RB or the depth of quality at WR, but their D is at least as good, and Donovan McNabb is Aaron Brooks with more experience.

The Ravens' defense was built up over a few years, but nobody expected them to be as dominating as they were in 2000.

Actually, they were gearing up for a two-year run at the top in 2000-2001. That's why they're in such salary cap hell this year: they sold their souls to try and have two really good years. At least they got half their wish. The Ravens drafted exceptionally well since coming to Baltimore, especially on defense, and few people were surprised when our D was the best in the league. We could see it coming. We could see the defense starting to gel around their obvious leader, Ray Lewis. Once Billick put his ego aside and allowed the team to lean on its defense, they went all the way. I like Billick, but I think he's done as much harm to the team as he's done good.

I know getting lucky doesn't happen often, but it's really the only way to achieve greatness now. If you scout well, and draft well, you're keeping most of those players only for a few years.. and free agency has proven that you can't form chemistry in just 1 or 2 years.

I honestly think the Rams had no clue about Warner's greatness. He was signed as a project totally based on good results in Arena League, and made 3rd string QB by default. Then, after Steve Bono retired, he was moved up to 2nd string. Trent Green got injured at the end of pre-season, and there was nobody left to sign. It took a miracle for Kurt to even get on the field.

The rest of the offense just happened to click. Isaac Bruce was a great receiver before 1999, but they sucked just as much as always. Torry Holt's instant contribution could not have been expected from a rookie receiver, considering it takes almost all WR's a few years to develop to the NFL style. Marshall Faulk was a known commodity, but he made the Colts no better.

Mediocre may have been a bad word, but these teams are far from perfect. Most of that New Orleans team gave up last year, and their defense hasn't looked too strong thus far. Philly is totally reliant on McNabb offensively, and a good offense can kill that 46 defense.

Dolphins/Pats next week is going to be one of the bigger games of the year, since the rematch takes place in New England. On Sunday Night. IN WEEK SEVENTEEN! You can pretty much knotch that for the Pats, though it'll be a good game as well.

I'm just not buying into the Saints. I don't know why, since they beat Da Bears, but I can't do it after watching the end of last year. If the Eagles hadn't of blown up in Week 1, they could run it pretty easy. Weak schedule, McNabb, an awesome receiving corps and tough D.

But it's so hard to do. That means no resting your starters, no late game breakdowns, no off days or last second field goals. It be so tough with the parity and injuries and everything else over the NFL. I'd say no, but defintely not this season.

Has there ever been a team that has gone winless?

BTW: I don't see the Patriots losing until the 2006 season. And that's only

because Troy Brown will miss some game with fallen arches :headbang:

I doubt it'll happen this year, though i think it will happen eventually. A perfect NFL season probably won't occur anytime soon, though someone will pull it off. It'll take a hell of a team and just the right circumstances though.
