Smallville Season Premiere

That was the first episode last season wasn't it? So since it's a year later, he WOULD be 17 now right?

The logic just isn't there. I guess the writer's just want Clark to start out as a freshmen in high school so they can do as many seasons of Smallville as they want and if they hit the 6 + season mark, they can write it off as Clark and Co. are all Sophomore’s/Junior's in high school. That means the writers wouldn't be forced to have Clark evolve from some unsure clod (at times) to this man who is very aware of the powers he possesses.

I gather from tonight's episode that they're not seniors since they were in a Sex Ed. class, but then again Lana half owns a coffee shop so wouldn't she be a little young for that?

It's good to see they're introducing his ability to shoot beams from his eyes now.

its funny how he discovered the heat vision

while focusing hard at the teachers sweaty breast, Clark burns down the projection screen

whenever Clark thinks of girls he gets a burning sensation then shoots heat beams out of his eyes

I think they were trying to say that it's triggered by emotion. Like in the movies when Lois is drowning he uses the beams to cut down a branch for her and when the people are being attacked by the badguys in Superman 2.

Parka, it was Biology class, not sex ed. I took Bio my Sophmore year so i'll guess that they're in 10th grade.

I like the show, especially the frist two of this season. The formula that Areacode talked about in the optehr thread is gone, at least for now and they have developed the characters a little more.

I do question why they broke up Clark and Chloe in favor of teh love triangle again, rathetr than keeping them together and having Lana eventually get jealous of Chloe. I think that would have made for an more interesting story line that could have culminated with Clark and Lana getting together at some point down the line.

Also Clark mastered his heat vision way too fast, one scene he ddin;t know what was going on and the next he had complete control.

What would you have them do? As I see it, there are two options. Neither of them is good.

1. There could have been several scenes of him learning to master it. This would quickly get very repetitive and boring. I suppose they could have done a montage, but in the end what difference does it make?

2. More scenes of him causing fire.

How long would THAT go on for? The scenes would quickly become contrived. Also, the plot would have to acknowledge it in some way, and draw more suspicion to Clark. Why have him getting a new power be a hindrance to the writers?

Its TV, and it has to move on. Why waste time on his heat vision, when you can have plot development instead?
