Wrestling Matches & Storylines....

Can you think of any storylines or matches in the history of wrestling that tell a deeper story. It could have a deep Shakesperean-like meaning or moral. It could involve soap opera stories or be an analogy of sorts of historic events.

Can you name any.

For me, the Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Rock WWF Championship match at Wrestlemania X-Seven has a deep meaning. The ending in which Stone Cold turns heel and joins with Mr. McMahon to me shows how far one man will go to get what he wants. Even selling out his principles and joining with evil.

Another match with a deep meaning is the Undertaker/Shawn Micheals Hell In A Cell match. Shawn was getting his BUTT whipped by Undertaker but won thanks to Kane. This shows a coward escaping the punishment he so rightly deserves through the skin of his teeth.

A storyline that has a deeper meaning is Austin/McMahon. Austin, the everyman, kicking his evil bosses' ass every week. Not only that, but it is sort of like the Communist Revolution with Austin playing Lenin.

And, when Macho Man and Elizabeth got back together at Wrestlemania VII that had a deeper meaning also. It showed that sometimes you have to fall to rock bottom to get back up again better than before.

Can you find deep meanings in wrestling?

Discuss.

The Rock-Jericho series told a great story in that all their matches built from previous stuff.

Ladder Match from NWA Wildside Fright Night 2001: JC Dazz vs. Jason Cross vs. AJ Styles vs. Jimmy Rave, message being that, no matter who you are friends with, sometimes you've got to put the greed of achieving your goals in the way of friendship.

NWA Wildside Heavyweight Title match from Christmas Chaos 2001: Rick Michaels vs. AJ Styles: the teacher gets frustrated at the evolution of his students, so he takes it out on the upstart student, who feels a need to prove himself to his teacher for being such a success so early.

Raven vs. Dreamer shows that your past can always come back to haunt you or something. :spank:

I suppose it could be argued that HBK/Diesel showed that greed can destroy even the greatest of friendships, if you allow it.

And Bret/Owen was the perfect sibling rivalry story. Younger brother feels trapped in the shadow, overcompensates by trying to take his brother out. However, in the very end, the family link is too strong to break, and a teary-eyed younger brother renounces his ways and stands side by side with his elder sibling.

I've always liked the Virgil/Dibiase fued.Virgil got sick of how Dibiase treated him and decided to show him how he felt by hitting him in the face with his very own Million $ belt.Plus the whole thing with Roddy Piper training him before WMVII,and Virgil telling Roddy get up by himself after the match was cool.(or at least it was when I was 7,buty I'm sure it'd hold up today).

Trish vs. Molly Holly said that some ppl will target even the most meaningless and petty flaws, even if they aren't true, and taunt you mercilessly for them because most ppl suck

I'm probably going to catch flak for this, but the Vince/Shane feud from around X7 had a special place in my heart. I watched my mom go through hell because of an awful father. So to see Shane get revenge on an awful father made it like....my power match or something. The plot line of Linda being mistreated was like my mom and seeing Linda kick Vince in the balls sent a rush of adrenaline through me that I even feel watching it today.

Now I don't condone the humiliation of Trish and thought it could have been left out, but even Trish turning on Vince was a cool goosebump moment.

It's really cool when you can see real life elements come out in storylines that even sometimes help you feel better about a situation.

On a side note my mom was never put in a mental hospital or had a nervous breakdown. I was just comparing it to being mistreated.

My first pick was taken in the initial post - Savage / Liz from WrestleMania VII. Savage was forced to retire from a very sucessful career - but maybe he left the ring that night with something a lot more important.

Bret / Austin was incredible in that it showed the hunger of the up-and-comer to not only make a name for himself but also to methodically destroy the legacy of one of the biggest names of all time.

Then there's always the class issue - whether it be Flair / Steamboat (son of a doctor vs. son of a blue collar worker), Flair / Rhodes (son of a plumber), or Henry Godwinn / Triple H (I know I'll get comments for that one).
