Madden vs. NFL2K

Recommended Posts

Guest ant_7000

I kind of like sega's detailed graphic especially the dreads hanging of the helmet. I liked madden better than I NFL2k series anyway.

"According to a Bloomberg report, EA Sports' football games have outsold Sega's by 8 to 1. The report cites sales figures showing that Sega has sold 144,000 copies of NFL 2K3 since the game's release in August, as compared to sales of 1.16 million for Madden NFL 2003."

Woah. 144,000 vs. 1.16 million? It's like the '78 Steelers (in honor of M. Webster) vs. the '02 Lions.

I wonder how many units 2K2 sold last year?

I'm not saying the 2K series will one day overtake Madden, but having played it briefly at Wal-Mart, the game play was just terrible (IMO).

Sega Sports, you got your work cut out for you...

I rented 2K2 and couldn't stand it.

I know that 2K3 is better...but you only have one chance to make a first impression.

And this is so lopsided it's not even funny

So I guess we can say to 2K3...

"Boom he's on his back!"

Me switching football brands now would be like a lifelong Democrat voting for Dewey in '48...

the thrashing by Madden not withstanding...

NFL2K didn't sell very well...

I mean..forget about the comparison and look at the low sales that the game is pulling in.

Funny, because from what I've heard, and what I've experienced, the people at Electronics Botique really pimp 2k3 HARD. I'm sure they all got some store-wide memo urging them to suggestive sell more aggressively.

This news makes me wonder how the other football titles sold. There was one where the commercials was all about the ability for the "new" version of the game to call hot routes.

HOT ROUTES...

Let's keep in mind that the Madden franchise has been around for more than a decade, while the 2K series finally made it off the Dreamcast with last year's release. Of course Madden's going to sell a lot more, since it has much greater brand recognition, and thus, much greater brand loyalty.

Considering that Sega's not losing money on hardware anymore, and that they've developed 2K3 for all the big platforms, I'm sure they're turning a profit on those "paltry" sales figures. Even if they only make $7 on each copy sold, they've still made A bit over $1,000,000 on the game.

I bought both and enjoy playing both.

Great.

But lets be honest and say that Sega put a ton of advertising behind this specific product, gave it a massive push...and came up empty

I'm just glad there's some source of competition -- no matter how insignificant it seems now. I wouldn't want my Madden series to go the way of WWE...

I think 2K3 is a very good game that will always be loved by the "hardcore gamers", but really appeals only to them. I think Madden is more made for everyone than 2K3.

I thought this years Madden blew. It was just last year's version with different players and some added mini-games that I didn't care anything about. I bought it but sold it after a week. I don't what's shocking about this. You're talking about basically the most popular game series ever. I haven't played 2K3 at all. None of them. Looks like Fever 2003 is my game this year. Of course all Football games to me are just a way to past the time until the basketball games come out in October.

I think Madden's over-rated..and EA just has an overblown opinion of their own greatness anyway. Until they start putting some actual EFFORT in their Xbox releases, I'm not going to buy one. With other developers upping the graphics on ports (instead of looking like a PS2 title) I won't buy one.

That said..

Sega put out a damn good effort this year.

I like Fever, actually. (2002 and 2003) It's fun, I'll say that. Above-average graphics, and the gameplay isn't boring.

If you say so

It's a lot better than playing the same Madden game I've played for the past 4 years with nothing but a number changed in the title.

This is where our opinions part -- the mini-camps are an awesome addition, IMO

They were fun for about five minutes and then it gets old and makes me wonder why they didn't put the effort it took to make those extras into making the actual football part of the game better and improved?

Thats a shame, because Sega Sports games are quality product. I enjoyed everyone one of them a lot more than the Ea sport games personally.

Agreed. If you would've told one year ago that today I'd be looking forward to NBA 2K3 and not paying any attention at all to NBA Live I would've slapped you. Live used to be the game of the year at my house every year. But Live has just been horrible every year sense the jump to the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube era. I've hated NHL too. And Madden, it's not a bad game or anything but I'm sick of it. I've played it year after year so I'm just bored with it and ready for something new for a change.

To be fair to EA, they've been doing this for so long... that it's getting hard to come up with new....uh... reasons to get the game. I mean... sooner or later, we're going to have to be controlling players off-season behavior...

Anyway, the game of choice in my dorm is NFL 2k3. My room mates and I have our own little "league" going on that's a blast.

That would be great! Who would get busted buying crack, "sleeping" with hookers, wrecking their SUV along a highway while doing 90 mph intoxicated, how many illegitimate babies will your franchise player pop out, thus asking for more $$$?

Oh wait, that last one will belong in NBA Live...

I would rather in the offseason you can have a side job of being the players lawyer for the team.

It would be great. Screw up and you loose the player for a certain time. Win and he gets off.

Yeah, and I'm sure that the Players Association would go along with that one. ;)

It would be badass, but as we've seen with the coaches always RESIGNING and not getting fired, they couldn't make the players look like..well, normal professional football players.

2K3 has only one good sports game and it is the football series.

Baseball belongs to the All-Star series

Hockey, Soccer belong to EA, yet Madden is also an awesome football game.

NBA hasn't made me go out and play a game since it was on the SNES.

Racing is not bad, but too damn easy.
