Guest Sandman9000 Report post Posted September 26, 2002 Taken from ESPN.com. Don't tell anyone. WASHINGTON -- He's back. Again. Officially. Michael Jordan announced Thursday he will return to the Washington Wizards, fulfilling the second year of a two-year contract he signed in 2001 when he ended his second retirement from basketball. Jordan "I am excited to return to the basketball court this year," Jordan said in a statement. "My love for the game of basketball continues to drive my decision. Physically, I am feeling very strong, and feel that the steps I took in the offseason have allowed me to return to the game in great condition." Jordan, who turns 40 in February, will be playing his 15th NBA season. He missed 22 games with knee problems last season for the Wizards, who open training camp next Tuesday in Wilmington, N.C., where Jordan grew up. Jordan decided not to have surgery on his left knee after having his comeback season cut short by surgery on his right knee in February. He played 60 games before going on the injured list in early April. Last season, Jordan averaged 22.9 points per game, 5.7 rebounds per game and 5.2 assists. A five-time NBA MVP, Jordan is a 13-time All-Star and has won six championships. During his career, Jordan has averaged 31.0 points per game, 6.2 rebounds per game and 5.4 assists per game. Perhaps the most pressing question the Wizards must answer is what to do about Jordan's role. Coach Doug Collins has said the Wizards plan to use Jordan off the bench for the first time in his career, in the backcourt behind Jerry Stackhouse, who was acquired in a trade with the Detroit Pistons, and Larry Hughes, a free agent from Golden State. "I am convinced that the changes made this summer will greatly enhance our team," Jordan said, "and feel that we are moving in the right direction." However, Jordan said earlier this week that he expected to start and play about 30 minutes a game. "No decisions have been made as to my exact role on the team, but I expect that coach Collins will make those assessments next week in training camp," he said. Surprise, surprise. He'll never quit. Guest razazteca Report post Posted September 27, 2002 other than Jordan why go to a Wizards game?
Guest Leena Report post Posted September 27, 2002 I understand that Jordan loves playing the game, and doesn't want to let it go, but the Wizards will still suck with his limited role in the lineup. I hate seeing legends tarnish their legacy by sticking around too long.

Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted September 27, 2002 Was this ever in question? I knew he was coming back, he's like the Flair of basketball, he'll do it until he can't do it no more. Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge
Guest oldschoolwrestling Report post Posted September 27, 2002 What sucks is that he can play crappy all season and he'll still get an all-star game roster spot.
Guest imajackoff? Report post Posted September 28, 2002 I so hate Jordan. Fuck ESPN for making him into some sort of god.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted September 28, 2002 ESPN didn't make Michale Jordan into a God. Alina, I disagree with you about the Wizards sucking with Jordan. Before he came back, the Wizards won 19 games (if my memory serves me correctly). Last year they had a shot at making the playoffs. I do agree with you about players tarnishing their legacy. I was hoping that Jordan would have gone out with his game winning shot in Utah, but he's been playing competetive basketball for as long as you and I have been alive. It's hard to give up something that has been a seemingly permanaet fixture in his life. Since he already came bak to play for the Wizards, I don't mind him returning to the team this season, as long as he doesn't end up on the injured reserve list all season. Guest nl5xsk1 Report post Posted September 28, 2002 Fuck Jordan ... he gets every call in the world, because no ref is going to call a foul on him, especially an offensive one. And always averaged a shit load of points, but shot more than anyone else. Greatest basketball player ever my ass ... if I had to win one game, I'd take Bird, or Magic, or Russell, or Wilt over him. Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted September 29, 2002 The only way I would care would be if Michael came back to Chicago, nobody had ever imagined him wearing anything but a Bulls jersey. What an ass, leaving the Bulls for the We-Can't-Call-Ourselves-The-Bullets-Anymore.
Guest Leena Report post Posted September 30, 2002 Alina, I disagree with you about the Wizards sucking with Jordan. Before he came back, the Wizards won 19 games (if my memory serves me correctly). Last year they had a shot at making the playoffs. That's true, I think they were a little better than .500 when Jordan played. Making it into the Eastern conference playoffs means jack shit, though. Hell, making it to the finals from there means shit, because they have no chance of winning the title. Anything less than winning titles tarnishes Jordan's career. This is assuming Jordan plays all season, which I really doubt will happen. The Wizards may be slightly better than last year. Stackhouse will be more consistent than Hamilton, but Russell's nothing special, and Hughes at starting PG I think is a mistake.
