Recommended Posts

Guest ShamRock

I saw a 64 at Babbages for only 29.99.This is pretty cheap,if you ask me.The main reasons I want to to get it is because I wanna play No Mercy and Revenge on it.Do y'all think I should get one?

I did.

For that exact reason.

I got the N64, controller, No Mercy and a memory thing for the price of a regular video game.

Since then I found and bought Conker's,Ocarina of time, Perfect Dark and Mario 64 all cheap.

I can't find it for under 20 bucks...and haven't broken down yet.

I've logged many hours playing Goldeneye...and I do intend on getting it eventually.

I'd go for it, it has a few very good games(strong reccomendation for Conker's Bad Fur Day) and they're all very cheap if you look around.

Get Virtual Prowrestling 2 while you're at it. Better than No Mercy, IMO.

It's an import, though. But worth the money. Look on eBay.

If you have the money and the newer stuff turns you off, go for it.

Otherwise, if you have no morals like me, you could probably emulate a majority of the stuff you are looking for.

You can get Dreamcast at basically the same price, and it's a far better system with much, much better games IMO. Besides the THQ wrestling games and Conker's Fur Day, nothing is worth playing. For sports games, N64 is shit. Mario Golf and Tennis are not good games. There's no comparing the Mario Tennis to the Virtua Tennis series.

N64 can be emulated, but most games run with flaws.

The only big benefit that the N64 had was the multiplayer games. First system to have 4 controller slots directly on the system, as opposed as needing a multi-player outlet. Other then that, there wasn't much to look for. I hated the controller, the games were more expensive then PS, Saturn, and DC due to the games being cartridge, and as Alina said, the sports games sucked. I'm glad I never got one, and only my friend did.

On the other hand, 4 people in Smash Bros. and No Mercy did rule all.

Fire Pro D and Giant Gram 2000 MORE than cover up the wrestling game defecit on the DC.

Besides, N64 wrestling games are emulated adequately.

I got the N64 just for the wrestling games. No Mercy, Revenge, World Tour, Wrestlemania 2000 and Mayhem (shut up, I like it). I also picked up Mario 64 and Mario Kart. N64 is better than DC, and I'm a Sega enthusiast.

Dreamcast is good for fighting games: Capcom, SNK, Virtual Fighter, UFC

N64 for Mario, Golden Eye, Pokemon

N64 rules because of the replayability factor in the games. I haven't made the Xbox/PS2/Gamecube jump yet, so I've been playing N64 since Christmas of 1997. I didn't get many games, never rented all that much, but still manage to enjoy it just as much as the day I got it. I can go on Mario Kart 64 and have just as much fun as the first time I played it. I'm not too mad about the big-ass exploratory action/adventure games, but even though I have Ocarina of Time, I never finished it because I lost the strategy guide. I found it a few months ago, but feel very little want to finish it up, because that kind of stuff just doesn't appeal to me. Goldeneye, Starfox64(multiplayer only, the one player mode is easy as shit), No Mercy, Mario Kart 64, all games that I still play today.

And as for sports games, I was in love with the Quarterback Club series. I still play the '99 edition.

Fo sheez,

Speaking of retro consoles, I so almost bought a neo geo CD package (included two controllers, four KOF games and Fatal Fury: Mark Of The Wolves).

The thing about N64 is it has games that you actually need an N64 to play. Mario 64, both Zelda games and Goldeneye, for instance, aren't available better somewhere else, and never will be. On the other hand, most of the big DC exclusives have or will be ported to the successful systems, or have better in every way sequels on the successful systems. It's hard to be too excited about Virtua Fighter or the Capcom fighters when they or their sequels are already out on PS2, and sequels to SC and Fire Pro are also coming to NGC relatively soon. Same thing with the sports games. Updated versions of all the major Sega sports franchises are already out for every major console. I can understand why people liked DC two years ago, but I can't see much of a reason to buy one now. I'd go with the N64, because of the four or five amazing games that you can't get anywhere else.
