From AICN- Simpsons Movies are going to happen

Now, I don't know if this is news to you yet, but I was in the room where Al Jean (Executive producer, writer and showrunner for The Simpsons since its inception in 1989) was one of the guest speakers. When it came time for Q&A with the audience, I got to ask him a question I'll bet tons of you out there are dying for an answer to:

 

Is there ever going to be a Simpsons movie?

 

His answer.....?

 

YES!

 

In fact, more than yes. He went so far as to tell us that all the principle cast has recently signed for a THREE PICTURE DEAL. The murmurs spread through the room. People liked that.

 

But, (Yes, you knew there was going to be a BUT) he doesn't know when.

 

Currently there are no plans to end the fourteen year run of the show and the writing staff is having enough trouble coming up with plotlines to fill 22 minutes of TV show, let alone 80-90 minutes of feature film. It was encouraging to hear him then say however that the six-man team of writers (including himself) hired for the task of the script want it to be something of QUALITY. They absolutely do not want to do it simply for the cash or to rip us (the fans) off.

 

They want to do it when the time is right. But, fear not people, a Simpsons movie IS on the way.

 

Im glad that they are going to take their time with it and not rush it out just to make money. On the other hand I think they are risking the fact that the Simpsons will be burnt out in terms of fan interest by the first film if they wait much longer..

this will be a very cool day when the time comes... I can only imagine all the inside jokes and other various bits for the longtime fans.

Well the recent seasons have been horrible lately and you know they ran out of ideas when they made Homer smoke a doobie.

Wasn't one rumor the Simpsons would of aged instead of staying the same age.

 

It doesn't appeal to me but they've run out of ideas.

Well, I for one will watch the movies no matter when they are released.

 

The show may be getting low on ideas and for good reason. However i really don't care, i still find most episodes at least somewhat funny.

 

Besides the creator doesn't seem like he's the type to keep a show going if he knows the quality isn't still there. I mean he doesn't need money so we know he wouldn't need to beat a dead horse just to make more money. When he gets tired of writing and totally out of ideas then he'll end it. We shouldn't fear it staying around until it turns into a totally unfunny mess of a show.

 

I predict that the show ends in two years(not counting this season) and the first movie comes out that summer.

That's because the show is still funny relative to other shows. And that's why it's still on the air.

You know, Beavis and Butthead Do America was supposed to be a live action movie. Thank god that never happened.

I knew about the planned movies for awhile, but don't remember hearing that they were considering live action. I truly hope that they have stopped considering that.
