This Tuesday in Texas

I've never seen the show but know it dealt with the Hogan-Taker belt fiasco leading to Rumble 92. Has anyone ever reviewed the show?

What are your opinions on the matches?

It's pretty funny, I just watched This Tuesday In Texas a few days ago.  Here's my review...

PPV opens up with a Taker promo.. Paul Bearer did all the talking and it was nothing more than hype for the Hogan rematch.  Typical old school RIP promo for UT, nothing special.

Opening graphics, opening contest is Skinner vs Bret Hart for the IC title.  If anyone doubts Bret's carrying ability, watch Bret carry Skinner to a solid match.  Lots of working the arm for Bret, Skinner actually worked Bret's shoulder for the majority of the bout.  Bret hits the FMOD but Skinner causes a ref bump and then hits Bret in the throat with his alligator claw that he brings to ringside for a false finish.  Another false finish as Skinner hits his finisher, the reverse DDT (which damned if I can remember the special WWF name for it) and Bret's foot is on the ropes.  Skinner goes to the top, Bret plays possum, and throws him down to the ring ala Flair.  Bret slaps on the Sharpshooter....goodbye.  Skinner's best match in the WWF.

We go back to footage of the Randy Savage Snake Bite Angle, as tonight is the match between Savage and Roberts.  We go to a pre-match interview with The Snake as he simply describes his evilness!!!  Stip is announced as Jake isn't allowed to have his Snake at ringside.

Pre-match interview with Savage to rebutt Snakes comments.  Thats a nice touch that I really miss these days.  Typical Savage rambling promo, always entertaining.

Match begins, with Savage immediately going after Snake while he walks down the aisle.  Savage with a beating until Snake attacks the arm the snake bit in a nice bit of PSYCHOLOGY~!!  He does this for quite a bit, and Savage attempts a few babyface comebacks.  Eventually Snake goes for the DDT, and Savage in a desperation attempt, pushes Snake into the turnbuckles and Snake sells the ribs.  Savage goes to the top, drops the big elbow for the pin, great match.

Here's where the real fun begins.  Savage goes to the ring announce table and grabs the ring bell and shows intention of doing the same thing he did to Steamboat.  Crowd pops for it!  Ref yanks the bell away and Snake DDT's Savage and he sells it like he's dead.  He does it again!!!  Elizabeth comes into the ring and pleads for Snake to stop.  Snake pulls out a small bag from under the ring...and everyone assumes that its a snake.  He pulls out a Coal Miner's Glove!! (Spin the wheel, make the deal....)  He teases using it and finally Elizabeth tries to slap Snake.  Snake slaps her for some massive heel heat.  Savage didn't see it, but is coming to and eats a 3rd DDT.  Snake leaves the ring a bigger heel than when he got there.  Perfect booking.

Post-match interview with Snake where he said slapping Liz was the best feeling he's had in his life and next time they meet in the ring, he wants Savage to make sure she's there.  GREAT.

Savage's rebuttal is just pure rage as he realizes what happened to Elizabeth.

Wow....the ppv goes to crap here.

British Bulldog vs The Warlord.  I'm not sure if there was an issure here between the two.  Bulldog was really roiding at this point as he was just f'n HUGE.  Warlord was nothing like I remember as a child, a great heel powerhouse.  Looking back, the guy was a worthless, talentless slug.  This was nothing more than two guys pounding on each other for no reason.  Warlord goes for his submission hold..the full nelson (THATS RIGHT!) and can't even do that properly.  His fingers aren't even interlocked, and is lost in Bulldog's hair.  The announcers actually dare to say that Warlord is using an unfair advantage to cause more pain.....wow.

After literally 5 minutes in the full nelson, Bulldog breaks free, gets a crucifix and gets the pin....Never see this match unless you want to see how bad Warlord really was.

Next match....Million Dollar Man/Repo Man v Tito Santana and Virgil.  The match was just ok.....wasn't great because of who was in it.  Tito can carry himself and Dibiase sure can, but they weren't in the match as much as the other two hacks.  I noticed something so pisspoor about Barry Darsow in this match too....I dont know if it was just in this match or what....but he couldn't take a back bump properly.  I just realized how talented Maven is....whoa.  Anyway, the heels win after some decent cheating.  Just there....nothing special.

Main event....Hogan v UT.  Yes, the main came that quickly as this PPV was only 2 hours long.  It was 2 days after Survivor Series 91, damn...how much wrestling do you need on ppv in a week from the same promotion!

Backstory for those who need it:

Hogan was in the midst of his 3rd title reign and faced UT at Survivor Series 91.  Flair interferes in the match by placing a chair underneath Hogan as he is being tombstoned and the title changes hands.  This caused controversy for some reason (UT hitting the Tombstone alone would have made people think he was becoming the new champ regardless).  WWF Pres Jack Tunney orders a rematch at this PPV.

Jack Tunney is at ringside to prevent interference again.  Like he'll do something....haha.  Anyway....typical old school UT match, full of chokes and zombie sit ups....kinda boring when put in there with someone like hogan

Hogan sees Flair and hits him in the back with a chair....and Flair falls on top of Tunney.  Hogan was just a good guy, you know.  He goes back in the ring....ducks an urn shot, opens up the urn, throws ashes in his face, hits the big leg, and Hogan is the champ again...for now.  Horrible match.  End of PPV.

First half of the PPV is great, second half is only good for historical purposes.  We learn later that the title is vacant and becomes up for grabs at Rumble '92, so we got something really good out of it.

The Savage-Jake stuff rules, and it's always nice to see Hogan take a beating (even if, at the time, I was pretty furious with the ending).  Everything else sucks.

A quick word about TTIT:  My comments cover the matches on the PPV as well as the additional ones included when the PPV was released as Supertape 92.

Bret-Skinner is decent to good, and Savage-Jake is pretty damn good.  Some sites have Savage-Jake at about *** to ****, although opinions will differ.  Most of the rest is crap, though.

I'd say that TTIT is worth a watch, although I wouldn't go out of my way to find it.

The Savage interview after the match is awesome!!!He goes so crazy that is just unbelievable!!!Speaking of Savage and Roberts,I got a 5 hour comp today and it has there match from WWF SNME and then it has the thing where Jake is about to hit Savage and Elizabeth with a chair and The Undertaker sneaks up on him.Well first that was just a crazy angle and Vince goes crazy when the happeneds.Another thing that doesen't have to do with Jaake or Savage is that on the special WWF Prime Time Wrestling footage at first Bobby Heenan goes to Vince hey you hogged the whole show and Vince goes I think that might have been your worst announcing performance of all time.Is that part of the storyline or did Vince not know that they were still rolling and it's a shoot?Does anyone know if it's a shoot or not?

Thanks.

That was probably a work to make it seem like they were off the air.

I think Skinner's finisher was called the "Gator Breaker".

TTIT is on Supertape 2 I believe for those wondering.

TTIT is on Supertape '92. You don't want to confuse it with Supertape 2.

My bad. Is Suoertape 2 the one with Hogan/Beefcake vs. Savage/Zeus in a cage?

I like the Bret Hart/Skinner match as well as the entire Jake Roberts/Randy Savage.

The entire Savage/Roberts/Liz angle was a great piece of booking by the WWF at that time.  Roberts slapping her was a pretty risky move for the WWF but it made the angle only that much better.

The Hogan/Beefcake vs. Savage/Zeus Cage match is on the first Supertape. Supertape 2 has something else.

As far as reviews go, what did you think of mine?  This was the second one I've done here and any suggestions would be appreciated.
