Guest Tim Cooke Report post Posted September 28, 2002 Pimp the recent Joshi to me. Arison, GAEA, JWP, etc. I know the main core of stuff. The Aja Kong v Meiko Satamura feud from GAEA. The Hokuto v Satamura match from 4/29/01. But what else should I be on the look out for? I have read lots of good things about Ran Ran Yu but nothing really specific. What should I check out from her? Thanks Tim
Guest wolverine Report post Posted September 28, 2002 Make sure you check out Mariko Yoshida's work from 1999, especially if you're into great matwork. I absolutely love her match against Mika Akino from 1/17, which is awesome technically, but also full of cool spots. I think it's the best match in Arsion history. This tape (Stardom '99) also has Yoshida vs. Yagi, which is a super mat-based match. Yoshida's match against Futagami on 4/14/99 is tremendous as well. Bottom line, Mariko was the best worker that year, so get her work! As far as AJW, I know you've seen Ito-Momoe 9/16/01, but I'd also recommend their 7/8/01 30 minute draw which set up the title match psych, and the Ito vs. Toyota from 8/17/01, which is also a great match. The 6-woman Cage Death Match from 11/23/00 is a lot of fun too.
Guest Jubuki Report post Posted September 28, 2002 WHY MUST YOU MOCK ME WITH THIS "I MUST NOT READ CHRIS' SITE" ACT? Crikeys - I've reviewed tubs of this stuff. For the JWP, you want the Genki vs. Ran match from 12/9/01 and the Ran/Hyuga match from 1/7/02 (probably better on comps than the whole tape). I'm gonna watch the 3/10 JWP show with the Heart Beat final b/t Ran & Hyuga, so maybe that'll be on the list, too. She reminds me a lot of Kawada - she's not overtly brutal or sadistic, like you might think about a UWFi Vader or angry Hash or Maeda or even Ohtani when he was El Young Punk, but somehow you watch her matches and by the end she's beaten the snot out of someone, except she's a lot less showy about it than Hokuto or the Monster Heels. Gritty, hard fighter like Tosh.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted September 30, 2002 time out chris. i have read your site and have picked up many a great shows due to yours and lorefice's joshi reviews. with that said, the only show from 99-2001 that i can really remmeber you recommending was the AJW Athena TV 8/26/00 (taped 8/20) show. point me to the righ direction because i have posted this exact same topic numerous times with no response on what rules in the joshi world from 98-now. Guest wolverine Report post Posted September 30, 2002 You've gotta be kidding. Do you even READ Chris' site? He's reviewed tons of stuff from this period, such as some of the matches I pimped above. There is no review of Ito vs. Nakanishi from 9/16/01, but it was his #3 for the year, according to the MOTY thread a few months back....
Guest Jubuki Report post Posted September 30, 2002 You should keep in mind, GH, that seeing me hand out more than one *** rating on a tape is a minor miracle in and of itself. I know what's good and what's bad, and I'm not going to gush over poorly paced, undramatic, half-assed tripe, when doing so would devalue the stuff that's actually worthy of praise. I've covered enough in the last year or so to make a few damn good comps out of the 99-02 material; just skim for the snowflakes.
Guest Gromit Report post Posted October 10, 2002 Here are some matches that you may want to check out. Arsion: Yumi Fukawa vs. Candy Okutsu - 2/18/98 Mikiko Futagami vs. Candy Okutsu - 4/17/98 I really enjoyed how Candy was able to mix the "workrate" joshi style with the matwork/submission style that early Arsion used. Mima Shimoda/Etsulo Mita vs. Lioness Asuka/Mariko Yoshida - 07/29/01 Great LCO preformace. GAEA: Aja Kong/Chikayo Nagashima vs. Meiko Satomura/Sonoko Kato - 3/20/99 Aja Kong/Mayumi Ozaki vs. Meiko Satomura/Sonoko Kato - 4/4/99 The Latter is Meiko getting her first pin on Aja to set up their match, which is very good but I like the first match a bit better. Aja and Chikayo make a great team. JWP: Mayumi Ozaki/Reiko Amano vs. Megumi Kudo/RIE - Street Fight - 4/8/97 Dynamite Kansai vs. Hikari Fukuoka - JWP Title - 4/8/97 The title match is great with an amazing preformance by Kansai. Jd': Jaguar Yokota/Yoko Kosugi vs. Lioness Asuka/The Bloody - TWF Tag Title - 2/2/98 "Southern tag" style match - Joshi style. Fang Suzuki vs. Sachie Abe - Cage Match - 2/24/01 Super fun with a wild finish. The Bloody vs. Sumie Sakai - 1 hr. ironwoman - 11/23/01 Some sloppy execution, but there is a lot smart work and high drama at the finish. Neo: Yoshiko Tamura vs. Mima Shimoda - Neo/NWA Titles - 2/11/01 One of my favorite matches from '01. I really enjoy Tamura early '01 work and Shimoda is great here. Yoshiko Tamura/Misae Genki vs. Mima Shimoda/Chapparita ASARI - 4/6/01 Genki, who's about 5'7, sells big for ASARI, who's about 5'. Yoshiko Tamura vs. Misae Genki - Neo Cup Final - 5/13/01 Very good match. Long match with nice build.
