FF XI

From all the previews/Jap Reviews from it, All it is, is walking around killing monsters and gaining levels. No real story or anything, besides having a job. Did I miss something?

What? You mean you were expecting some sort of actual depth in a MMORPG? *snicker*

I know, but If I want to just walk around killing things, I'll just play FF 7, 8, 9, or 10 instead of spending over $300 on all the things I need for XI

I already bought all the stuff needed to get online, but I hear there will be a monthly fee for the game. If it's as lame as you said I will not pay monthly to play it.

Reviews I read say you get a job, and walk around killing monsters to gain levels. Im not sure if that is the whole point of the game, but my money says yes.

Well, from what I hear, the "story" is optional. You can gather people up and do the main story questy thingy, which is supposedly like all other FF's, or you can do the tradition MMORPG pattern of "kill-sell-buy-repeat".

 

Personally, I think it's destined to fail. MMORPG's DO need story, but not A story.

 

Gemstone III (yea, another cheap plug) has storylines, but they have set time frames, slightly smaller scale, and in some way or another they effect EVERYONE.

 

Never mind that most of them involve a race of evil from another dimension trying to take over one of the towns... occasionally we get some variety (kobold bank robbery!).
