Guest Joe_G Report post Posted September 28, 2002 They ran the Pierroth/Mascara Ano Dos Mil and the tag title match from the 69th Anniversary show, and that was it. Instead of the Casas/Tarzan Boy hair vs. hair match, they showed three bouts from the 7/20 show: Volador Jr./Ricky Marvin/Tony Rivera vs. Arkangel/Nitro/Hooligan (good), Villanos vs. Black Tiger/Masada/Nosawa from the trios tournament (too short to be any good), and Tiger/Masada/Nosawa vs. Black Warrior/Rayo/Lizmark (not good). WHAT WORKED OK, Porky’s at the concession stand and loads up on food (duh). He gets back a peso in change, then starts hyping the 9/16 show. Is there a special deal where you get admission for one peso? I dunno. I want one of those posters to hang in my cubicle. Stellar Moments comes earlier than usual. Sangre Azteca sighting! He hits a Stone with D’Lo’s swinging slam. Tigre Blanco runs up the ropes and dropkicks Mephisto. Psicodelico (I think) hits a nice tope. The guy Psicodelico toped runs up the ropes and dropkicks him (jeez, we just saw that) and slaps on a wacky submission. Ultraman hits another tope to Zumbido’s back and nearly overshoots him (no flip this week for ‘bido). Shocker and Mascara Magica hang in Shocker’s office and discuss the final Guapo. They’re still looking, I think. Both men were certainly dapperly dressed. Tag title match is second and I’m thinking this will be a short show. Los Guerreros decided they want to make an entrance, so they come out in these huge Vegas showgirl headpieces. Not to be outdone, Shocker comes out in this white fur coat, then disrobes to do his standard hip hop entrance complete with dancing girls. Vamp doesn’t have a wacky outfit, but does come out to “Fuck the Police,” which I notice they don’t bother to censor. Rey and Vamp take it to the mat to start, then start pummeling each other. Vamp hits an overhead belly-to-belly and goes for a pin, but Ultimo breaks it up. Shocker goes after Ultimo, who bails and gets saved by the ref. Bucky tries to go up top but gets caught and gutwrenched off. Shocker adds a splash for good measure and goes for a pin, but Ultimo breaks it up. The GdI transition to offense and go double team crazy, getting Vamp with an Assisted Wheelbarrow Suplex. They try the same move on Shocker, but Shock manages to roll up Rey behind Ultimo’s back to even the match. This leaves us Shocker vs. Ultimo, which is too damn short. Shocker hits a ‘rana but Bucky sneaks into the ring and reverses it (holding down Shcok’s arms for good measure) allowing Ultimo to get the pin. Ultimo jumps Vamp to start the segunda caida and the champs work him over with double teams. They try to do the same to Shocker, but he blocks the double hiptoss facebuster, allowing Vamp to nail them as they try and come off the ropes. He takes out Bucky with a top rope spin kick for good measure. Ultimo takes a Jerry Bump outside and Shocker hits the world’s scariest plancha, coming within about six inches of landing headfirst on the floor. Vamp hits two Germans on Bucky, the second of which deposits the tag champ on the back of his head. A Death Valley Driver gets the pin, and Ultimo gets counted out to even the falls at 1-1. Tercera caida begins with a train wreck as Shocker, Ultimo, and Vamp hit dives to the floor. Back in the ring Vamp and Rey go another round and we get a pair of credible nearfalls off of a powerbomb and uranage. Ultimo comes in and Vamp tries a Rock Bottom, but Ultimo reverses into the Fujiwara armbar and Rey adds one of his own, leaving Vamp no choice but to submit. Shocker tries to go one-on-two but is soon overwhelmed and taps out to another double submission. The champs are presented with their belts afterwards and everyone congratulates everyone else on a great match. And this was a great match, even with 10 minutes chopped off (the editing was pretty flawless). I liked the booking, I liked the wrestling, I liked a lot of the little things in the match. Rey has been FEELING it lately, and may challenge Ultimo for Alpha Male of the GdI. WHAT DIDN’T WORK The Capos meet in their basement to talk of their war with the Capos. And talk. And talk. And talk. Seriously, I though this lasted an hour. They have a good laugh at the end. This was boring and set up what will no doubt be a shitty match. I’m glad they got Pierroth vs. Mascara Ano Dos Mil over with first. Bulldog has a new mask, which covers up more of his face (he used to have a jockstrap sorta mask like Vader back in the day). Of course, this is only so when he lost it fans wouldn’t feel ripped off (like when Vader lost his mask). Veneno tries to sing the Puerto Rican anthem but gets interrupted by Ma2M’s music. Commando Girl still has her hand on her chest from the anthem and I wish…actually, we’ll end right there. OK, Ma2M comes out solo and jumps in the ring and attacks Pierroth, despite the fact that there are about ten Commandos in the ring too. And, of course, he gets attacked and pummeled. His Capo brothers and Gran Markus run out for the save. A huge brawl breaks out and everyone gets ejected. The usual non-wrestling match between Pierroth and Ma2M breaks out, with Pierroth using the flag as a weapon (symbolism!). Lots of choking and whipping with a belt. Apollo Dantes comes down to get a closer look. Pierroth sends Violencia to get a metal sheet, but Apollo trips him up on the way. Pierroth gets the sheet anyway but eats a Van Daminator from Mascaras. Then Mascara did the “point to self” pose. Really! Mascara grabs the sheet and nails Pierroth over the head…and gets DQ’d? So it’s ok to use a belt but cookie sheets are out? Much Yelling Into The Mic™ afterwards to set up the hair vs. hair match, so at least a bad finish is going somewhere. Not a lot of wrestling here, in case you couldn’t figure that out, but the crowd was really into it. Veneno covering up Pierroth afterwards was pretty funny. Tag match was real good. Opening match wasn’t. But at least all the new stuff had a “big match” feel to it. Joe Flashing their badges just like the law of averages
Guest razazteca Report post Posted September 29, 2002 the tag team match was ok as Vampiro at least tried to put on a good show this week. The match was great in a since that the they did the usual spots, but this time they changed up the game plan by adding some jaw dropping reversals and killer submissions, the only thing that was missing was Shocker's spinning backbreaker move. When Shocker reversed the tilt a whirl face buster into a Hurricana-like rollup, my jaw dropped in awe. then they got the quick pin nearly a minute later by having gdi cheat to win. With nearly everyone proclaiming the Eddy Guerrero & Rock match being so great with the Rock Bottom spot reveral must see the even greater reversal move by Vampiro & Ultimo as Ultimo was almost in the air then block the Rock Bottom with a Fujiwara Armbar. Then both Ultimo & Rey did a double team submission armbar and half crab for the win, it look very similiar to Konnan's Tequila Sunrise move from WCW. Guest Joe_G Report post Posted September 30, 2002 Ultimo pulled out that same reversal in his singles match with Vamp two weeks ago. I liked how it took a double submission to take out both Shock and Vamp. They supposedly cut off about 10 minutes of the match (not sure where, the editing was great). I know we missed out on Rey taking his weekly deathwish bump bu taking a belly-to-belly over the ropes to the floor. Joe
Guest razazteca Report post Posted September 30, 2002 I know we missed out on Rey taking his weekly deathwish bump bu taking a belly-to-belly over the ropes to the floor. how could they cut that out? They showed Shocker nearly killing himself with the plancha? Hell they showed Dragoncito do the Asai Moonsault that resulted with him landing on his face today!!!
