Guest MrRant Posted September 29, 2002 Report Posted September 29, 2002 ANKARA (Reuters) - Turkish paramilitary police have seized more than 33 pounds of weapons-grade uranium and detained two men accused of smuggling the material, the state-run Anatolian news agency said on Saturday. Officers in the southern province of Sanliurfa, which borders Syria and is about 155 miles from the Iraqi border, were acting on a tip-off when they stopped a taxi cab and discovered the uranium in a lead container hidden beneath the vehicle's seat, the agency said. The incident happens at a time of mounting speculation the United States could launch a military attack on neighboring Iraq for its alleged program of weapons of mass destruction. U.S. President George Bush has accused Baghdad of clandestine efforts to develop a nuclear bomb as his administration works to build international support for an operation to oust Iraqi President Saddam Hussein ( news - web sites). Officials at Ankara's Atomic Energy Institute would not confirm they had been notified about the material, which Anatolia had reported. "Our investigation on whether the uranium was destined for a neighboring country is continuing," a Sanliurfa police official was quoted as saying by Anatolian. Police officials in Sanliurfa and Ankara declined to comment on the case. Authorities believe the uranium came from an east European country and has a value of about $5 million, Anatolian said. It was not immediately clear when the operation was carried out. Anatolian only gave the first names of the suspects, which appeared to be Turkish. Smugglers use Turkey's porous eastern border to import drugs, and hundreds of thousands of migrants each year illegally cross the rugged frontier on their way to more affluent European Union ( news - web sites) nations. Police in Istanbul seized more than 2.2 pounds of weapons-grade uranium last November that had been smuggled into Turkey from an east European nation. The smugglers were detained after attempting to sell the material to undercover police officers. And we shouldn't be thinking about military action against Iraq why?
Guest Downhome Posted September 29, 2002 Report Posted September 29, 2002 And we shouldn't be thinking about military action against Iraq why? Have you yet to learn to NOT ask that question!? Geesh, we don't want all of the anti-war bums to come out of the woodwork!
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Posted September 29, 2002 Report Posted September 29, 2002 Now now, maybe those two men were going to use that weapons-grade uranium in the privacy of their own home...
Guest MrRant Posted September 29, 2002 Report Posted September 29, 2002 Now now, maybe those two men were going to use that weapons-grade uranium in the privacy of their own home... Perhaps they are planning on giving each other thermonuclear orgasims anally.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Posted September 29, 2002 Report Posted September 29, 2002 I hope racial profiling wasn't used in catching these alleged uranium smugglers -- that would be wrong...
Guest MrRant Posted September 29, 2002 Report Posted September 29, 2002 Yes... Arabs racially profiling Arabs... its same race racism!
Guest Cancer Marney Posted September 29, 2002 Report Posted September 29, 2002 Which, of course, is entirely the fault of Whitey. He brainwashes people into thinking their own race is bad and creates helpless Uncle Toms to carry out his evil work for him. Revolt! Throw off your chains! Free Mumia! Sigh.

Guest MrRant Posted September 29, 2002 Report Posted September 29, 2002 Ummm..... HILLARY WANNABE! MWAHAHAHAAHA
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Posted September 29, 2002 Report Posted September 29, 2002 Can't we all just get along?
Guest Cancer Marney Posted September 29, 2002 Report Posted September 29, 2002 Like, yeah. I mean it's not like violence and yelling and stuff ever solves anything, right? War and stuff like that, it's just totally about killing people and that's like, y'know, wrong, right? If we just sat down with these guys and talked things over and gave them some more aid I'll bet they'd be totally cool about it and stuff, and then we could get rid of the army and use all that money to find a solution for, y'know, global warming. Ohmigosh... that was so intense. Here, take a drag on this, dude.

Guest Kotzenjunge Posted September 29, 2002 Report Posted September 29, 2002 I never said we shouldn't go to war with them, I just said we should make sure we explore all options first, and this latest news cuts down on options drastically. "Like, yeah. I mean it's not like violence and yelling and stuff ever solves anything, right? War and stuff like that, it's just totally about killing people and that's like, y'know, wrong, right? Kotzenjunge Really Wishes Mindless Attacks on Non-conservatives Would Stop
Guest Cancer Marney Posted September 29, 2002 Report Posted September 29, 2002 Are you making fun of potheads, liberals, or both? Both. The two groups have significant overlap.
Guest The Czech Republic Posted September 29, 2002 Report Posted September 29, 2002 Yes... Arabs racially profiling Arabs... its same race racism! I don't think Turks are the same as Arabs.
Guest Invader3k Posted September 29, 2002 Report Posted September 29, 2002 "I don't think Turks are the same as Arabs." They're not, but put one next to the other and I couldn't tell the difference. Then again, the Turks have the only country other than Israel in that region that isn't completely fucked up and run by religious fanatics bent on killing us.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted September 29, 2002 Report Posted September 29, 2002 Are you making fun of potheads, liberals, or both? Both. The two groups have significant overlap. Yeah, but don't include the crescent of the venn diagram that encompasses the stoners but not the hippies. There's a difference, you know.
Guest Some Guy Posted September 29, 2002 Report Posted September 29, 2002 Kotzenjunge Really Wishes Mindless Attacks on Non-conservatives Would Stop And I really wish that people would stop calling the President "Dubya" but it ain't gonna happen and you're wish won't come true either. It's time to take Sadam the fuck out, actually it's at least ten years past time to take him the fuck out.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted September 29, 2002 Report Posted September 29, 2002 They should've done it when they had the chance, that way we wouldn't be sitting here arguing about Desert W. Storm.
Guest Mystery Eskimo Posted September 29, 2002 Report Posted September 29, 2002 And I really wish that people would stop calling the President "Dubya" but it ain't gonna happen and you're wish won't come true either. So you admit they're mindless? It's time to take Sadam the fuck out, actually it's at least ten years past time to take him the fuck out. Agreed.
Guest HecateRose Posted September 29, 2002 Report Posted September 29, 2002 The one thing that scares me about taking Saddam out is that I heard his son was worse (I read a story about his son in a magazine). If that is the cause, lord knows what that psycho would do
Guest Mystery Eskimo Posted September 29, 2002 Report Posted September 29, 2002 I doubt there's going to be an invasion which permits anyone remotely connected to Saddam to be left with any kind of power whatsover.
Guest HecateRose Posted September 29, 2002 Report Posted September 29, 2002 Considering Saddam tried to have his own son killed (heard it on Dateling, or 20/20, or one of those shows) I doubt there's much of a "connection" there, besides blood
Guest Some Guy Posted September 29, 2002 Report Posted September 29, 2002 And I really wish that people would stop calling the President "Dubya" but it ain't gonna happen and you're wish won't come true either. So you admit they're mindless? No, the "Dubya" shit is mindless, Marney's post was not and it was funny, like totally funny, fer sure! I think that if we an, we'll kill Sadam's kid as well. he was out in teh Phillipines, I beleive trying to buy nuclear material, not too long ago BTW.
Guest Mystery Eskimo Posted September 29, 2002 Report Posted September 29, 2002 No, the "Dubya" shit is mindless, Marney's post was not and it was funny, like totally funny, fer sure! Yeah it was. Its funny coz its true! But c'mon, Dubya is such a great name If/when we remove Saddam, his successor(s) will likely have to work with and be approved by the US *cough* I mean UN, so I wouldn't worry about Saddam's kid being involved.
Guest Kotzenjunge Posted September 29, 2002 Report Posted September 29, 2002 Isn't it his nephew, not his son? I thought his son was seen as unfit for rule but his nephew was actually told by Sadaam to tone himself down. Kotzenjunge Surprised Sadaam told Anyone to Tone Down
Guest HecateRose Posted September 30, 2002 Report Posted September 30, 2002 All I remember is that is was Saddam's ex mistress, and she said he tried to have his son killed, can't remember which show it was though, or when it supposidely took place, so it is very possible my memory has failed me
Guest Vern Gagne Posted September 30, 2002 Report Posted September 30, 2002 They should've done it when they had the chance, that way we wouldn't be sitting here arguing about Desert W. Storm. That's true. But the U.N. wouldn't allow it and GHB was afraid to lose the coalition.
Guest Cancer Marney Posted September 30, 2002 Report Posted September 30, 2002 Actually, it was the Saudis who begged us not to.
