Guest El Psycho Diablo Report post Posted September 29, 2002 http://www.spong.com/detail/news.asp?mode=...rid=3814&type=n I haven't seen this anywhere else..so if it's true or not.. If it is..*glances at his Xbox* ~*~ Well, the link works fine with me, but here ya go. Following initial financial forecasts of just short of £2 million profit for the year ending March 2003, Capcom has now predicted that it expects to lose around £66 million, sparking intense rumour that a Microsoft buy-out of the firm is on the cards. Capcom stated that increased operation losses, combined with failed landholding investments are to blame for the situation. Even before we broke the news of Microsoft’s Rare buy-out, rumours that Xbox staff had been in talks with Capcom had surfaced. It is well known that for a long time Microsoft has been looking for a high-profile Japanese firm to acquire, to the extent of approaching both Sega and Nintendo in the past. Microsoft needs a Japanese signing of substance to strengthen its offering to the Xbox-apathetic gamers in the region as its machine continues to gain a foothold in the Japanese market, a factor seen as essential for wider commercial success in the games hardware market. We’ll bring you more on this as it breaks. Remember where you read it first.

Guest Insane Bump Machine Report post Posted September 29, 2002 but really, i hate Resident Evil, and what other good games did Copcom released? Devil MayCry, Street Fighter, Onimusha, Capcom vs. SNK, Breath of Fire, Mega Man, Dino Crisis, Power Stone, Maximo...

Guest Phr33k Report post Posted September 29, 2002 Gee, it only took Microsoft a year to try and buy out everybody so they can monopolize video games too!
Guest KoR Fungus Report post Posted September 29, 2002 Am I the only one a little nauseated at the thought of Microsoft going around and buying out any big development company they can get their hands on? It's bad enough that they did it to huge numbers of computer development companies, but I want them to keep their filthy hands away from the videogame market, dammit. Argh. Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted September 29, 2002 but why buy a company that produces lots of bad games, why not buy 3D0 as well, since Army Men games are that damn good
Guest El Psycho Diablo Report post Posted September 30, 2002 3D0 dosen't have the 'name' value, either.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted September 30, 2002 If the companies can't be self sufficient, why not go ahead and buy them?
Guest El Psycho Diablo Report post Posted September 30, 2002 I don't see where it's so wrong. Hell, Sony did the Dreamcast under with it's PS2 overhype..and THAT wasn't exactly nice buisness. MS isn't a "videogame monopoly" in any way.
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted September 30, 2002 Microsoft doesn't like competition, the likes to take out all of it asap
Guest KoR Fungus Report post Posted September 30, 2002 <<<Hell, Sony did the Dreamcast under with it's PS2 overhype..and THAT wasn't exactly nice buisness. MS isn't a "videogame monopoly" in any way.>>> Sony didn't overhype PS2 at all. The hype came from the media and from gamers who were all rabid over the thing. Sony just shilled for it, the same way that every company shills for their system prior to launch. I hardly see anything unethical about that. They didn't even put as much money into advertising around the launch as Microsoft did with the X-Box. DC's failure rests entirely in Sega's hands, for not creating enough demand to keep the system competitive. Microsoft's situation is different. They aren't getting the third party support that they want, so instead of courting third parties, which is what everyone else involved in previous console wars has done, they just plan on buying all the ones that they can get their hands on. It's not like that's illegal or anything, but I still find it nauseating. I don't want to be forced into buying an X-Box because Microsoft has bought companys that make games that I like, and I'm pretty certain that game quality is going to suffer once developers get engulfed by the Microsoft empire. Not something I'm looking forward to.
Guest El Psycho Diablo Report post Posted September 30, 2002 Eh. It's no different than companies like Square, who are basically Sony-owned. *shrugs*
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted September 30, 2002 Well, this makes the pending decision on what system to get a little easier. Wait a second, no it doesn't! I'm STILL TORN!!!! Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge
Guest MrRant Report post Posted September 30, 2002 Eh.. I am just curious about if Capcom has any commitments it has to honor to say Nintendo.

Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge There is no reason to even consider the X-Box or GC, when a PS2 is within your grasp. The greatest game in history, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City will be released late October for the PS2 and will cause each and every PS2 owner to go through a month of insomnia just driving through the towns. Don't even think about not picking a PS2 up NOW, Kotz.
Guest MrRant Report post Posted September 30, 2002 I will get it when its released for PC so I can listen to my own MP3's. Nothing like running someone off the road to Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way"
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted September 30, 2002 Anyone who tries to advocate a particular console must realize that I really don't give a crap about most of the stuff you people do with a game. That said, GTA's Miami thingy sounds like fun, but won't sell me on a whole system. Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge

That said, GTA's Miami thingy sounds like fun, but won't sell me on a whole system. Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge Understood. Did you have to hurt my feelings like that, though? j/k... PS2 gets my vote because of the backward compatibility and the "only on one console" goodness that is GTA. The DVD player may not be up-to-level with other consoles, but a cheap DVD player does a better job than all 3 consoles anyway. XBox and Gamecube owners can argue over different points about why their consoles are better, so my argument is MOOT. Choosing your console will be about preference anyway, so I say to stand back and just figure out what's your cup of tea.
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted September 30, 2002 That's the problem, I haven't been able to decide. I mean, I had this choice last Giving Day, and I couldn't decide. Now it's under three months away and I STILL don't have any idea. Each system just has the same number of pros and cons in my mind that none are better than the other two to me. It was a PS2 until I got a DVD player. After that, it lost a big-time plus for me. Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge
