ChrisMWaters Posted September 30, 2002 Report Posted September 30, 2002 Now...I'm watching through my WrestleMania collection (all 18)...and I came accross WrestleMania 7. After the "Retirement" match between Ultimate Warrior and "Macho King" Randy Savage, followed by the next year, showing the Championship match between Savage and Flair...I got to wondering...what was the story behind how Randy Savage was allowed to return to in-ring action?
Guest papacita Posted September 30, 2002 Report Posted September 30, 2002 As you know, Savage and Liz reunited after the Retirement match, and at SummerSlam 91, they got married. Later that night, after the PPV went off the air, their wedding reception was ruined by the Undertaker and Jake Roberts, who placed a live snake in one of the gift boxes. After that, Savage was determined to get his hands on Jake, and a "Reinstate the Macho Man" campaign started. From what I remember, WWF set up a hotline where fans could call in and vote as to whether or not Savage should be reinstated. The fans voted yes, and he was supposed to team with LOD and Big Bossman @ Survivor Series when Sid got injured, but a few weeks before the PPV, he was attacked by Jake and his King Cobra. He didn't wrestle at SS, but made his return a week later at Tuesday in Texas in a match with Jake.
