Most hard-luck indy wrestler

Recommended Posts

Guest ShooterJay

I'm talking about guys who despite their talents and hype, can never catch a break no matter how hard they try.

I'd say Reckless Youth is pretty much the most hard-luck indy wrestler I've ever heard of. This is a guy who I used to hear a ton of hype about for years, I think he was under a developmental deal for a long time, then he was cut loose and injured himself pretty badly. To my knowledge, he never got any face time in WCW, ECW, or WWF.

You could make a case for Chris Daniels, but he's had shots in WCW and ECW, and is an automatic main eventer at whatever indy he chooses to work for, and probably makes good money when he goes overseas.

Granted, I've never heard of a lot of indy guys, anybody you know who's had rotten luck?

RICK MICHAELS!!!!!!

Guys like The Lost Boys, AJ Styles, and Slim J are all his students, and all have gotten big breaks. He's a better worker than all of them, and he's gotten one shot in CZW in a battle royal. Why? Damn if I know.

I could make a case for Nick Berk, but after seeing him in a 3 way against Ruckus and Justice Pain, I lost some respect for him. I mean, no disrespect to Ruckus, but if you are worse then him in the match, something has gone wrong.

If I had to pick a persion, off the top of my head, I would say Mike Modest, but my answer could change in half an hour.

I feel sorry for Daniels, mostly because he almost killed himself in his one big chance for WCW.

At least Nick Berk is a former CZW World and Iron Man champion.

I forgot about Rick Michaels, I would have mentioned him otherwise. I think the stigma of having "Michaels" as a last name really hurts him, becaue people always think "Shawn? Oh, some other guy."

He was under developmental deal in Memphis but I believe it was his decision to not renew it. It was either he could make more money working the indy circuit or he felt he was stagnating there by wrestling the same people over and over.Probably a bit of both.

He did wrestle on at least one ECW show against Nova sometime around Christmas of 1998.

The guy is a whale of a talent.

I'd have to go with Reckless as well...the kind of cruiser matches he had years ago could be considered innovative, but fact is, he isn't getting any younger and the spot monkey crusierweights these days are killing themselves to try and outdo each other.

So Reckless will never make it as big as he should of.

He won his only ECW match when he wrestled Nova in Queen in Dec of 98...it was Nova's idea to put him over, he thought Reckless was going to sign a contract and work an feud with him...Reckless was suppose to show up for another show, but never did.

I am stealing the word "spot monkey" from an unnamed source and am now using it for my own.

And Daniels has the Curry Man gimmick sitting there for him whenever he wants to go to Japan.

Well, they could always change his name. TNA gave him a dark match, and he's had a few WWE tryouts, including the 2nd Cincinatti tryout camp. But, either something happens (TNA's budget cuts, WWE's developmental down-sizing), or RM injures himself (he went into the camp in Cincinatti with an injured wrist and back).

Although he has a career in Japan, I would have to say Chris Daniels. As for Reckless Youth, he doesn't deserve a push to the big leagues anymore. Laziness is what screwed him in the end. He more or less "gave up" towards 1999.

Reckless Youth, Ric Michaels and ADAM FLASH! C'mon! This guy isn't god's gift. But I always thought he'd make an alright tag specialist and lower card guy. He has been around for a while too.

By the way, for those that don't read the TNA folder, Rick e-mailed me and said he was working a TNA dark match tonight.

I'd like to thorw low-ki into the mix, sure he headlines the NWA, but he's been told, you're never gonna be a wwf star. So no matter how hard he tries, no matter how much he gets over, hes never gonna get to the big show, despite every tough enough contestant that could.

If thats not discouraging, i dont know what is.

I'd also throw AJ stlyes into it to because he was told the same thing.

For the last three listed....

They are young stars. I was the self proclaimed #1 fan of AJ Styles when he was in Wildside. But he will make it. Just like Low Ki. Not being in the WWE isn't a disappointment anymore. Low Ki regularly tours in Japan now. These two guys have the skill and will succeed in this business. And for Jody Fleisch....how old is he? Like 22. He has years ahead of him to succeed. Right now he is the British version of Red. These three all will eventually succeed and enjoy their career.

But for Flash, Youth, and Daniels...I dunno. I know Flash and Daniels have both wrestled at least 10 years. And I don't know about Youth. They are all good talents but injuries (Youth) and style have all held them out
