Guest bob_barron Report post Posted October 1, 2002 Well someone had to take the fall. I never really thought Bobby V was a very good manager at all and I can't say I'm too sad to see him go
Guest treble charged Report post Posted October 1, 2002 I never really cared either way for Bobby V., but I lost all respect for him when he got thrown out of that game, then came back into the dugout w/ that "disguise" And that was against the Blue Jays! Yup, it's my belief that you can tie (almost) everything that happens into the Blue Jays. But, on topic, it's not really a surprise, considering the Mets' record and all. Still, I hate to see people lose their jobs.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted October 1, 2002 Did he wear one of those Ninja Turtle disguises with the trenhcoat and Groucho Marx glasses?
Guest jimmy no nose Report post Posted October 1, 2002 Whoa, wait, he got thrown out and came back in disguise? That's so awesome. What kind of disguise did he have?
Guest danielisthor Report post Posted October 1, 2002 Not that i'm a mets fan or anything (marlins fan) but Valentine is an idiot. I don't know how the hell he kept his job the entire season. 95 million dollar payroll and the end up last in the division behind the Phillies, Marlins and Expos. You can add up the payroll of the Marlins and Expos and it comes out to like around 80 million. On WFAN here in the NY/NJ area his radio program he was always "protecting" the players. Would never come out and say "hey that fat ass Mo Vaughn needs to drop 30lbs, or Robbie Alomar isn't playing to his potential or Piazza couldn't through out his grandmother trying to steal 2nd." it was always " oh, he has a twinge in his neck, or a back problem or his bloody nose hair was injured in a freak hair drying accident." boohoo. Guest treble charged Report post Posted October 1, 2002 Did he wear one of those Ninja Turtle disguises with the trenhcoat and Groucho Marx glasses? Yeah, pretty much. He had a fake moustache, nose, and glasses. It was rather humourous.

Guest El Hijo Del Lunatic Report post Posted October 2, 2002 You know, ever since the 2000 World Series, it's seemed to me that the Mets have gotten a HUGE inferiority complex with the Yankees. That series was supposed to be the Mets' official "Hey, there're TWO teams in New York" party, but they got spanked, and they've seemed deserate ever since. Their front office has tried to make a ton of moves, to be like the Yankees, but all they've done is turn into another version of the Red Sox. This isn't Bobby Vanetine's fault. They've only got four pitchers that pitched for them in 2000: Al Leiter, Armando Benitez, Grant Roberts, and John Franco. They've got different starters at third base, first base, shortstop, and all three outfield positions (well, two, if you count Payton's platoon in center). This is NOT the same team as in 2000, and this is NOT the same talent level. The Mets' front office bought a lot of aging, aching talent and blamed Vanetine when it didn't produce. Wilbon said it best on PTI: the Cubs should give him a call yesterday. LUNATIC - Pimpin' ho's and clockin' a grip like my name was Dolemite.

Guest bravesfan Report post Posted October 2, 2002 Steve Phillips should of been fired has well. Average sportsfans do not see how Phillip's moves were actually GENIUS~! in hindsight. For example, when acquiring Mo Vaughn, it was a 2 for 1 deal for Appier. --In exchange for Appier, Phillips acquired Mo Vaughn AND his gut. A few days later, Phillips traded for a few players (namely Jeff D'Amico) from the Brewers. That was not the top prize there, though. --In exchange for Glendon Rusch, Phillips acquired a minor leaguer posing as a major leaguer - Jeromy Burnitz. At 33 years of age, Burnitz is developing into a well-versed stand-in for real MLB players. Keep Phillips in power, I say.
