Guest bob_barron Report post Posted October 2, 2002 I'm actually a bit disturbed by this quote: I love Mabel. By the way... who's Justin Baisden? The name sounds really familiar. I think he writes for 411 too, but no particular columns come to mind. He helped Regal win a title- he's cool with me.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted October 2, 2002 Jericho has never, no will he ever probably be the wrestler Regal once (and probably still) was. what is the deal with regal having this reputation for being a great worker? the only match he's done that has an eminent reputation for being great is the pillman memorial show, and that was with chris benoit. i think he's mildly entertaining to watch just because he's so stiff, but he hasn't had a single match in the wwf that has impressed me at all. well okay, the rumble match with edge was pretty cool for the tiger driver reversed to the back body drop, with regal holding on to complete the tiger driver, but that's it. i'll admit i haven't seen his wcw stuff, but i haven't heard anything great about it either. i hear the excuse "regal's a very good wrestler, but this match was a big styles clash" ALL THE FREAKIN TIME. isn't adapting to the other guy's style and strengths a major component of workrate, if not THE major component? if regal can't work the style of anybody else in the fed, why the hell is he a great worker? Watch the Regal comp- He has great matches with everyone!!! I've loved Regal's stuff- I honestly don't notice the slowness and the plodding and all the other criticisms. Its pretty obvious he would've beat Jerry Lawler on his own, but Lawler used his pull to have two men interfere against him so he would've job clean. REGAL WAS BEING HELD DOWN~! Guest bob_barron Report post Posted October 2, 2002 While that maybe so- I don't care- Mabel ran in to inform the ref of all the cheating and tomfoolery going in. So he helped Regal and made Regal not look weak by showing his love for not breaking the rules
Guest Sassquatch Report post Posted October 2, 2002 The interest in Regal can be traced back to his work in Otto Wanz' old CWA promotion which Regal worked for. Regal's matches with Dave "Fit" Finlay in the early '90's became the stuff of legends and Regal's name began to circulate around the net scene and soon everyone wanted to see what was the deal with him. Highly recommended to track down any of his CWA work.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted October 2, 2002 Their Uncensored match is ab fucking fab. I was like: Whoa seeig them beat the shit out of each other. Regal is God
Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Report post Posted October 2, 2002 Regal rules, and not just his old stuff either. His WWE work is really underrated, I guess because he doesn't do springboard cartwheels into inverted DDTs or something... . All of Regal's offense always looks really crisp (as opposed to guys like Lance Storm and Christian), in particular all his strikes, knee attacks especially his running knee of the ropes (HHH can't even come close), etc. He has a nice array of suplexes and his submissions actually look like they hurt. I would much rather watch Regal than a lot of the supposedly "great" wrestlers nowadays.
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted October 2, 2002 Regal's main problem is that his style REALLY isn't suited for the average three minute match on WWE TV, and can only barely get started on the average eight-ten minute match on PPV. He's just a fella who needs at least fifteen minutes to really show off. Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted October 2, 2002 He's good when he can work stiff. Other than that, he's not one of my favorites. I HATE watching him take Booker T's axe kick. It's the gravity defying flat backed bump from a move that would knock someone forwards.
Guest Brian Report post Posted October 2, 2002 Regal doesn't feel the need to actually change the way he works because basically at house shows he gets to do whatever he wants. Get all the Finlay stuff. Actually, I enjoy alot of Regal's brawling more than most people. I guess I'm just conditioned to get into the strikes and the different transitions. Guest bob_barron Report post Posted October 2, 2002 Thank you- I love his forearms and European uppercuts and just the way he moves around the ring. To me a Regal match is always exciting

Guest SuperTonyJaymz Report post Posted October 2, 2002 Before anyone gets an ideas bout a 411 Fued, me and Bob are just playing around. I actually like Regal, but he isn't y favorite. better tan the overatedness of Christian, etc/ that everyone elase so applauds. And Fit Finlay is the toughest bitch out there. So everyone go read Bob's awesome Regal review, then read my(if its up) Atticus review on 411 music. but remember kids: regal > Christian but Regal < Jericho
Guest dc_tapes Report post Posted October 3, 2002 I always loved watching Regal beat the crap out of guys like Jumpin Joey Maggs on WCW {Pro} every weak. Seeing Maggs in agony was always one the highlights of the show.

Guest EI Cubano Report post Posted October 4, 2002 Man, Justin Baisden turns into Regal turns into Jericho. For what my two cents are worth given the current state of the economy, Justin Baisden's reviews are damn fine. The problem with the DVD guys is...well...they are a bunch of nerds who feel as though people like you and I are in no way qualified to talk about Japanese wrestling because we don't drive around to indy shows in a van or own colorful masks. This attitude ruins their reviews in my humble opinion and Baisden was the only puro guy who's review ever actually made me order a video so I'll give him some props. This attitude ruins their reviews in my humble opinion and Baisden was the only puro guy who's review ever actually made me order a video so I'll give him some props. i think you are wrong about the dvdvr guys cubano and right about baisden. check it. if you have ever talked to dean rasmussen, you would know that not only is he knowledgable but that he has never (to my knowledge) ran someone down based on their opinions on a wrestling match. now, guys like jdw and others on the toa board have done that but not the dvdvr guys (at least to my knowledge). and whereas baisden has influenced your puro-purchasing decisions, i could say the same about the dvdvr guys, mike lorefice, chris coey, jdw and even baisden himself. who cares about the source when the end result is a killer tape! now, as for baisden's reviews, i personally am not a fan of the ten words in caps lock style. with that said, he has turned me on to some great wrestling and i credit him for that. i also think his essays on 6/9/95 and 6/3/94 were about the most comprehensive description of those matches that i have ever seen on the net. do i disagree with some of his ratings? yes, but what fun would the net be if you couldn't argue star ratings with some stranger. as for regal, we'll leave that for another time... Guest Brian Report post Posted October 9, 2002 The DVDVR guys don't have an elitist opinion. At least the playboys don't. Stuart can be a problem, so can CDN and Brandon, but if you come in there like an idiot you're not going to get much of anything. They've been to a lot of live shows over the past couple of years, all the Super Eights since 1999. Auctually, if anyone's interested in foreign tapes of any sort right now, Dean's doing a big fire-type sale and dubbing for like eight dollars for six hours. I need some lucha. JDW is the source though. He knows a ton.
