Guest Dale Newstead Report post Posted October 1, 2002 Yeah, everyone knows about these matches...but to you, what made them great? What stood out the most to you in any of their matches or even just your favourite? For me, I'll select WrestleWar '89- I dunno what it was about this...actually I do. The flow ruled, just back and forth, no man had too much offence and everything made sense. What I liked most of all was the selling and delivery of moves. From chops, forearms, punches and suplexes, everything looked mint and I mark out every time I see any move in the match.
Guest Slingshot Suplex Report post Posted October 4, 2002 I'm surprised nobody has taken a stab at this since Oct 1. I may be vague but hopefully someone will expound on this. I guess the key word would be chemistry. Whenever Flair wrestled Steamboat, they worked so well together that their matches went to top levels.Granted, especially in the 80's,Flair could work well with a lot of different guys and come out with a good match. But Steamboat was on a level above most other wrestlers himself. Certain guys just click with each other. From what I've read,Flair requested that the Mid Atlantic booker put him with Steamboat about 4 months after Ricky arrived in the Carolinas because Flair thought they could do something special. And Steamboat credits Flair for teaching him a lot about psychology. So,practically from the beginning, there was a great deal of respect between the two.I would imagine that they never had an ego problem with each other. After Flair regains the NWA title from Steamboat,he calls Ricky the "greatest champion he's ever faced" in his post match interview with JR.And I don't doubt he believes that. Guest Dale Newstead Report post Posted October 4, 2002 Yeah, I guess the respect both me had for each other helped with the matches. They could put certain things in each others hands and not have to worry about them. And the chops, you gotta love the the chops
